As an A320 pilot who has flown into Madeira many times, that captain did a fantastic job. There are always gusts of wind there and floats are very common. He did exactly what he should do and initiated a baulked landing if he thought he was going to land outside the touchdown zone. A textbook example of safe flying.

Good decision! If the aircraft doesn’t touch down on the Aiming Point markings or the next pair of markings, better to go around & fly a second approach. Again, good decision by the crew 👍
