Discovered your channel when my old box craped out on me. I was looking for a replacement and your spreadsheet was very helpful. Also, your in-depth reviews are very much appreciated as many of these boxes are lacking in detailed information on the capabilities of these machines. Your review of the Allwin T95 saved me from making a horrible mistake. I can't thank you enough for your list, I've been trying to pick an android box for my brother for several months now, after spending numerous hours each time narrowing down my list to ten boxes, I end up getting overwhelmed by the lack of information and decide to come back the following week.
Two-three weeks later, I make another new list, again and again, as I feel lost each time coming back to the selection of saved tabs.
To top it off, you have in-depth reviews which cover so much valuable information. I can't say for certain I've found the box I'm getting him yet, but at least now I'm not overwhelmed by a heap of information which was incomprehensible without your hands-on tests.

@@tvboxstop I appreciate you taking the time to reply with more information. Ugoos AM6 Plus and the Beelink GT King Pro were two I looked into against each other. However, even though I had planned on making a plex server dedicated to his needs, I still felt iffy about buying one of the mid-high android boxes if it only streamed Netflix at 480p.
That got me to look into X96 Max+ and Magicsee N5 Max, as well as checking out some of the $200+ (AUD) boxes on Aliexpress to see how performance and features scaled. Unfortunately, that put me on a halt as I felt like I was in the same position that I started in not having information on how it supports specific apps.
I don't think I recall The TOX1, I'm going to have to look that up IMMEDIATELY.
EDIT: Apparently I had already watched your 25-minute video on it, perhaps I didn't consider it in the final cut as it wasn't on your list, I'm unsure.
EDIT2: I watched the video another two times today. Did you realise that on your rank chart, you have listed the Tox1 box as not being capable of playing Dolby True HD? I'm making a little comparison list atm.

Just wanted to ask what would you recommend, this X96 Max+ or Xiaomi Box S? I'm just considering Mi Box S just because it has chromecast and google certified. But x96 max+ has really good hardware so which one do you think I should buy?
X96 Max+ is way better, the Mi Box S only has Netflix in 4K over the Max+ but the hardware is low-end

I hade one of these almost a year ago. I thought I wrote a comment on it before but I guess not. I really liked it because it was fast. But it quite working after a couple of months. If you are going to purchase one of these I highly recommend getting a cooling fan.
The ventilation holes below are too tiny. Pop that cover off and problem fixed

I've downloaded the same atmos demos from Dolby's site and performed that test on my plex (via my roku ultra box) but when I play movies that have dolby atmos, the best I can get is TrueHD 7.1
My question is: Could you run plex on that android box and get dolby atmos by chance or is plex limited to TrueHD 7.1 no matter what? Thank you.
The digital audio output of the TV box is dependent on which media player you are using. I have tested many players in the past and none of them outputs Atmos except the VLC player and Kodi media player. I never used Plex before so sorry about that, but if there is a way to set the default video/media player of Plex to the VLC player you will gate Atmos. But first you have to go into the VLC player settings and enable the audio option to allow audio passthrough. And while you are at it, set hardware acceleration to Full. The same can be done for Kodi if you have that option, but there are also so settings to enable in Kodi if you want to use it. Check it out and let me know

Because right now, my pc is connected HDMI to my TV and my TV (ARC hdmi is connected to the receiver) Thanks again.

@@tvboxstop i have plex on a roku box and a old android box but I was also testing out a 4k movie on the vlc player on my pc. I'm basically testing where I can get dolby atmos on my new surround sound set up. I'm testing out everything. The new box in your video will be here next week.

Have you tried this in CoreELEC?, and if so, is the A/V quality the same as in Android, like 4K@60 ... ?
Yes it can. Use the "sm1_s905x3_4g_1gbit" dtb.img in the core folder for it to work.

The box isn't rooted, but u can use twrp to install super user by chain fire. I found a link on a RUclips video but the guy's not speaking in English but if you watch carefully do exactly what he saying & it will work

Yes it can, make sure to copy and paste the sm1_s905x3_4g_1gbit from the device tree folder into the CoreELEc folder before booting or it will not work.

My only issue is that while I try to crop the screen resolution in MX player or vlc or kodi for the 4k videos from usb , they always are stretched , is it the same for all s903x3 models ?
Yes this is the case more or less. Unless you change the resolution of the box to suit the video.

If it's an app it will work fine. The box is rooted so there nothing holding you back for installing and using what you want.

Yes they do. Root access doesn't affect VPN services or apps

Hi, great reviewer. I would like to ask you if X96Max + or Fire Cube is better for the recovery of large hdr files 10 +. Where do you get better quality?
The Fire Cube the last time I touched it is more powerful than the X96 Max+. I have been told that they updated their firmware many times since correcting the issues highlighted in my video.

What's the purpose of a root switch? Why would you want to disable root access?

The problem with this model is the lack of ventilation holes will elevate heat levels resulting in some throttling.

X96 Max+ is my choice between the two, it has better performance and better cooling then the X96 Air that overheats and under performs

The TOX1, A95X F3 RGB, R-TV Box X10 Max, there are others but you can look at those. The TOX1 is a really good place to start.
all I need is usb play back looks fine for this so got one coming its for a tv station I am setting up but will only be low power

Hello, Great review. I really appreciate your videos. Can you please help me pick a suitable TV BOX for me? My budget is around 40-50$. I want a box that can play most vid/audio formats. DTSHD, HEVC x265 8/10bit & whatnot, and good emulation like ppsspp, ps1, (wii if possible) and good bluetooth & wifi/ethernet. I'm thinking of either X96 MAX+ or A95X F3. Which one would you recommend or something other than these two. Thanks a lot!!!
I would recommend the A95X F3. I have the latest A95X F3 with me right now. trying to push out these boxes so many.

as you know, true android tv has different version of netflix installed. the interface is different.
OK so it navigates everything play button and everything else in the Netflix APK version except the the menu in the top left corner.

Don't change if you are happy with your Vankyo the X96 max+ as more power on the CPU and GPU but it depends on what you need it for. Streaming is the same, 4K playback may be a little better, but the real difference is in the gaming performance.

Is there any chance for this box android 11 or we have to buy x96max plus ultra because android 11 is in ultra model so confused to choose because some ate saying max plus model is more stable than ultra model i dont know and some are said to me that ultra model have android 11 and s905x4 cpu more ppwerfull than max plus

I have experience with both models and if I had to choose I would go with the A95X F3 air as it has a more solid firmware and features.

The remote won't power the device on it only powers it off you have to unplug then plug back in to power on from it being off.

Your video just made me realize I've done something wrong with my setup. We are using the same Sony STR-DH790 receiver. I'm using the RUclips app on my Samsung Qled 55" Q6FN. When I play Dolby Atmost videos on RUclips, my receiver never reads Dolby Atmos. It always says PCM. I've changed my receiver sound field from Dolby Surround to Neural-x but still my receiver never displays Dolby Atmos. Would you know how I could fix this? Thank you.
Yes you will not get Atmos if the speaker is set to 2 ch. It must be on multi-channel. Also you have to use HDMI passthrough and not optical audio. i recently learned that you cannot get Atmos and DTS audio via optical audio due to compression issues. So something is wrong with my test, and I discovered that the box auto switches to HDMI for Atmos during my test. So use HDMI passthrough and set the receiver to multi-ch and it will work for you.
@@tvboxstop if I could subscribe twice i would. You're absolutely right. I plugged in my hdmi cable via arc from my TV to the receiver. Watched something on plex and BOOM! It now says DD. Which sounds way better. I'm glad I came across your video because it was between this box and the Pendoo x10 plus but I wasn't sure...until now.

Maximize it in the bottom right corner. Better viewed on PC or laptop. My internet speed is 250Mbps so under 5GHz Wi-Fi column 100% means good. Under LAN 100% means it's GB LAN port. The 2.4GHz band most times falls below 100Mbps, but that does not mean that it's bad.

Just got one & found few problems:
1. RUclips (mobile version installed from Googleplay) videos would randomly turned squeezed into 4:3 when put into higher res than 720p. And at higher than 1080p the vids would be messed up green & grey & pixelated as if playing corrupted movie files. Uninstalled & reinstalled also delete data/cache from YT, worked for few vids then got back squeezed & messed up again at higher res. However Vanced is fine at any resolution. What to do?
2. USB 3.0 can't read any externals but it can be used for wireless mini keyboard. USB 2 is fine. This is a bit of a bummer since one of the reasons I bought this was to replace my old HK1 Super box which both USB ports started to be unreliable, sometines they recognize externals sometimes not (both ports were fine before).
3. Right now Im turning it off since bluetooth keep searching for my headphones that just lost connection. Earlier I restarted the box, but didnt fix the prob, bt kept on searching. I couldn't seem to turn the bluetooth off; on settings it doesnt have bluetooth settings where I could turn it on & off, it only have "remotes & accessories' that would instantly search devices when clicked. I did find the button to turn the bluetooth on & off via 'more settings' on droid settings but the button didnt really work it wont stay turned off. Also when the pairing works via settings > remotes & accessories, it doesnt show the % of the battery of the devices. Hk1 Super (also on Android 9) does way better at this, never have any problems with bluetooth.

The short answer is no, and it's not because these problems don't exists. It's because I no longer have this box as I sold it many months ago. Sorry about that, but I just can't keep so many boxes.

can you test ppspp and reddream to see if it can handle emulation ?

Hello TV Box Stop! please if you know Between x96 max and x96 max+ which one has better performance, run faster? X96 max has better ram chip ddr4 compare to ddr3 of x96 max+ but x96 max+ has arm cortex A55 and x96 max has arm cortex A53. Any suggestions?
The X96 Max+. That DDR could be incorrect. The Max+ is the better box in relation to performance.

You need to set it to AV output in the audio settings.

So with this software. I'm using wifi and noticed most of the time it's fine but sometimes it stutters or same scene of a programme replays over again and when they speak its not in sync. Any idea why?
That's an APK issue you get sometimes in certain streams. The problem comes from other source

Most TV box cannot play 8K videos well with the exception of the Nvidia shield, Beelink GT king and the Ugoos AM6 boxes
Is the maximum SD card 32Gb like other s905x3 models? one sale site claims it supports 64Gb cards
OK I just tested it and I tried formatting a 64GB SD to shared internal storage and failed. So as removable storage it works fine, but as shared internal storage it does not work.

If you are comparing hardware performance the X96 Max+ is more powerful than the TV stick in terms of hardware performance. On the other hand it all depends on what you value about the TV stick. For example. If you value the Android TV OS interface with Google certification to play premium movie services in HD and 4K, then the fire stick will be better than the TV Box. Not in hardware performance but in the service it provides. It all depends on what you value most official movie services such as Netflix, Disney+, or Amazon prime video, or do you prefer a box that gives you root access and allows you to install your favorite APKs.
I had this box 1 1/2 yr's. The 1st day it got really hot and shutoff. I used a computer fan underneath and worked great until recently. It keep's rebooting randomly. And freeze the screen on different apps. I guess I have no choice but to reset it. I'm gonna try the cords 1st before I do.
from what you described I doubt resetting will make a difference. It appears the box is dying. Try removing the bottom panel and apply the same fan. The bottom panel pops off no screws.
@@tvboxstop - I removed the bottom right away after the 3rd reset. I did a factory reset and it's been going all day with a few unplug's without any issues But I believe you're right it's probably on it's last leg.

You always go with the new model of course. Why go with Amlogic S905X3 in 2004 which is from three years ago

Using Wi-Fi dongle has to be Android compatible. I have tried this in the past and it only seems to work when I install Linux not on Android.
If a box does not have the 5 GHz band it means it's outdated hardware and you should stay far from it.
It is sure that the remote control hasn't effect for more than 2 metre from the box ?
I always used to say that these stock remotes are crap and you should consider using a wireless air-mouse of mini touchpad keyboard.

My one big problem with these tv boxes is the power cord is way too short
Power cables also cannot be to long or else it will loose power due to attenuation. Use an extension cord maybe?
@@tvboxstop I am using an extension cable and I am aware how power cords work. The TV box I have has a very short power cable. They can make the power cables at least 50% longer without losing power and they can use higher quality cable which will cause less power loss over distance. My extension cable is two foot away from my TV on the right dide and with the short HDMI cable included with the box the box is dangling behind the TV. I know I could use a longer HDMI lead but I want to hide the box behind my TV which is on the wall over my fireplace.

CPU Temperature (in settings enable overlay) some permissions need to be enabled manually for overlay to work - play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kami.cputemp&hl=en Onen apps in the settings area and go to special app settings and go through each special category especially Draw Over other Apps and enable CPU Temp and it will overlay to the top.

@@reynoldalegre4039 same issue here. It's only displaying on the right side or on the middle of the screen if you click on rotate icon from the app. Did you managed to change it to the bottom?

No it will work on smaller TV's also no problem. The resolution for that TV will only appear though.
I have a problem with Dolby Vision playback. When I play the Dolby Vision .mp4 or .ts file with own media player or VLC, my Dolby Vision OLED TV doesn't switch Dolby Vision only switch to HDR. What is the solution for this issue?
To be honest I don't have an OLED TV so to advise on weather Dolby vision is on or off I will not be able to say. I can speak for HDR for sure. Sorry about that, I will have to work on an OLED TV in the future.

That is usually an Internet speed and IPTV server issue. If the service is using Mac address to connect to their servers then the service will work much better. If you are using an application with a username and password, those tend to get bottlenecked in traffic.
x96 Max Plus I have why the Display mode is only up to 1080 60 Hz, there is no 4k option?
You have to connect it to a 4K TV first and the box will give you the option to select it.

No sorry it does not have built-in Chromecast. You would need a certified Android TV Box running on Android TV OS to get that feature

No you are safe the video will play as usual it will just play in basic stereo or basic surround sound through a receiver. But the file will play

Honestly I have no idea why that showing 2GB of RAM. Never seen a firmware update do that unless two of the RAM modules on the mainboard got damaged which is a possibility.

Es que en mi tv box X96 Plus max no logro hacer que salga la barra de tareas que si te sale a ti en le vídeo que subiste. La inicio y sirve para tomar fotos, para video se bloquea y me toca inhabilitar, desconectar e iniciar la cámara para que vuelva a funcionar. Just wanted to kindly ask you i find in the 2020 chart that mecool km1 is at 18 and this one at no 15, but mecool km1 does allow amazon and disney plus in hd quality which the x96max plus cant; so any reason why mecool is not better ; the benchmark test is pretty close on both
You are using the chart to determine which box is right for you. But the chart only represents hardware performance. Features are a personal preference. A box could have a lower chart placement and all the features you need, does not make it a poor performing box. it all boils down to what you want the box to do for you with smooth handling without overheating. So you a good to go with the KM1 it's not a bad performing box.

In terms of raw hardware performance compared using benchmarks this box is the better box. It also has an HDMI 2.1 port, so it's display and graphics are better.

Could you please tell what exact setting u use on this android box to play dolby atmos. I'm unable to play amos movies. amplituner play it as PCM. When i use may xbox i can play atmos audio
Use the VLC player with audio passthrough enabled in its settings area. Video file must be formatted in Dolby Atmos. Finally enable all the settings at 4.11 in the boxes sound settings.
