I find the concept of a machine harbouring the soul of a god (or a machine being the discarded husk of a god that transcended to another stage of being) absolutely stunning. Everyone thinks the plating on a mech is just armour, used to ward off attacks, but what if it actually protects the outside world from the devastating powers within?
PLay a Mechwarrior game, and you'll get the idea. The armor is to keep a titan of war safe from the other titans of war, both older, or younger. As an example, it's like going into battle manning the machine gun on a Hummer, but when you clear a ridge, a fucking M1-Abrams is waiting for you on the other side. You may be in a machine of war, but there's always a bigger fish to worry about.
