Brilliant video, full of common sense ideas, I’m so glad I have common sense and was able to tick off everything you said, (and more 😉) sadly common sense would seem to be some what lacking, judging by the supermarket trolleys I’ve seen, filled with Halloween and even Christmas stuff.
All sensible stuff. Just be careful blocking up all your draughts if you have an open fire/wood stove or gas boiler etc. as it could take you to an early grave.
That is true, older houses not so much, but modern ones could be almost air tight, If you have an extractor fan it could cause problems like pulling out fumes from anything that burns fuel, gas or oil boilers without an external air intake. A candle is good for finding drafts that are small. If you need to let air inside, get it inside as close to the appliance as possible.
@@norton750cc if the fire is installed correctly by an heatas engineer or signed off by building control then all correct ventilation should be in place.
@@norton750cc All very true. Often missed is the point re getting the air supply as close to the appliance/fire as possible. With a fire/stove this is great as stops draughts being pulled through the property. When first built the houses of parliament used this in reverse & lit fires at either end in summer to create a draught through the building & cooling it down.
I just want to say this is easily possible. I've spent the past four winters walking the dog in wind chills to -40 2-4 miles a day. I have the clothes, blankets, gear. Have the pantry, the firearms, the fuels, used to cooking, baking, gardening, canning, dehydrating, freezing, cold store, fermenting, We've done drywall, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, bricklaying, shooting, reloading, fishing, filleting, meatcutting, maintaining compost, raising fruit trees, berry bushes and grape vines. I've solo camped in the dead of winter, heat of summer, through a tropical storm. Our pantry has food for over a year that we regularly eat first in first out, seeds for the garden, water, lamp oil, candles, lighters, matches, detergents, solvents, adhesives, tape, rope, cord, ammunition, components to reload ammunition, generators, batteries, and so on. Our tools include mechanical, plumbing, gardening, carpentry, masonry, food prep, drywall, finishing, painting, cleaning. With skills and supplies to go with al the tools. Owning the tools and doing things ourselves saves us so much money. Just cooking and baking from scratch saves us so much compared to other people. Our dinner material costs are typically under $3.00 a serving. Meat, vegetables, starch, drink and dessert. Buy the large cryovac cuts, cut them down to 4 ounce servings, grow the vegetables, bake the bread and the dessert. The remodeling we did, looks fantastic, bought some drywall, mud, tape, molding, polyurethane, paint, a sander, a texture sprayer and did it for free labor. Spent under $2,000. Labor, would have been $6,000. Ammunition, My material cost for 9mm handgun ammo 60% of retail, 410 defensive rounds 20% of retail, 223 rifle ammo, 60% of retail. Buy the tools, do it yourself, it saves so much in the long term. We live in a town where people would bug out to if they thought about it.
