    Hey boo! I started off in endo, left to do “real nursing 🥴🥴” at a hospital two years ago starting off in endo and switching to MICU. I’m going RIGHT BACK to endoscopy. The hospital setting is another level of stress and toxicity I don’t care for! Cheers to endoscopy 🥂

    I literally watched this months ago when I couldn't decide between OR and endoscopy. I chose OR. Today I called endoscopy because I really regret choosing the OR. I literally had a panic attack today due to the toxicity in the OR. Everyone in endoscopy seemed so happy and I can't wait to transfer! I wish I had not wasted my time with OR. However, I will now be even more eternally grateful. No job is worth your mental health!

I have become skilled with IVs and understand have a better understanding of pre/post anesthesia care. Patient are nice because they aren't in emergent pain and are generally stable. The nurses, doctors, CRNAs and MAs have become good friends and I just can't say enough good about it. I think it's a great place to start in nursing if you're able to find a job at one. Endoscopy nursing was great, I loved the speed and getting the chance to become an IV starting master! • @luvnurseb5552

      Hi Maya! I would definitely say it's more common to be hired in inpatient endo as a new grad. Outpatient centers are small, and usually have older nurses that have like 10 plus yrs of experience. When I had my interview for outpatient, the manager literally told me she would never hire a new grad. Even though its relatively easy work, you still should be experienced in what to do in an emergency, knowledge of medications, iv skills, etc. Outpatient centers are not the place to learn these things for the first time. I personally wouldnt get into endo as a new grad. I think its better to kind of get those foundational nursing assessment skills, that you would get working med surg or ICU. After that, you can take those skills to any other specialty, and transition to an easy RN position like I did. Hope that makes sense. Again, this is all just my opinion. Do what your heart desires 🙂 Thanks for watching!

      Hi Lindsey! Thanks for watching. If its inpatient endo, than yes, because most likely there will be techs available to place the IVs. @luvnurseb5552  3 года назад +2

      Hi Angelica..so when I had my endo interview,the manager really didnt ask me any questions. She just gave me a tour and discussed the position. Just like with any interview, you should be informed of what it entails, so I would say to make sure you know what EGD, colonoscopies, & flex sigmoidoscopies are. If you are interviewing for an inpatient endo position, you can also look up the more advanced procedures like EBUS and ERCP's. You don't have to know details, but just a general idea of what they are. Be ready to provide an example of how you handles a patient emergency, and how you would deal with a disgruntled surgeon. Hope this helps!

    • @luvnurseb5552
      @luvnurseb5552  2 года назад +3

      Hi Tami. Kudos to you for being able to endure such a demanding unit for 24 yrs!! Endo is no where near as physically demanding as your previous unit. Propofol is the main medication administered so the patients wake up pretty quickly and usually do not have any pain or nausea. So you pretty much just wait for them to wake up, monitor vitals, and send them on their way! I never had to lift any patients while working endo. As mentioned in video, I did outpatient endo so most of the patients were just coming in for routine colon screenings or egd's for gi symptoms. The # of patients varies based on how busy the place is but I would usually have about 10 patients a day during an 8 hr shift. You dont have 10 all at once...usually about 2 at a time. I think it would be a good fit for you. If it still ends up being too physically demanding, you can see if they will let you do light duty like doing post op calls, getting charts together etc. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

      Hi Sarah. Both of those will vary on the facility, so I dont really have an answer for you. I know some hospitals take new grads in endo and some take experienced nurses that are just changing specialities.

    hi:) this was so interesting. I really loved this! I work in NICU for almost two years, before that I did general surgical med/surg for two years. what was your previous experience? A lot of nurses I worked with in med/surg went into endoscopy nursing inpatient, it always seemed like something I would love to do. I heard you say you worked OR. I only have four years of NICU and Med/surg, do you think they would want someone with different experience?
    thank you so much!
    Lexi

      Hi Lexi! Thanks for watching...so right after school I did med surg for a year, then I went to the OR for a few months, and now im in Endo. I'm actually looking to get a PACU job though because there are alot more agency/travel nurse gigs with PACU than endo. If you want a laid back, low stress speciality, than I would suggest endo. As far as if they would want someone with different experience, I think they would. As long as you know how to put IV'S in, you have a chance. The worse they can say is no, so definitely apply and see what happens.

    Do you think endo in the hospital is stressful compared to other hospital jobs?

    • @luvnurseb5552
      @luvnurseb5552  3 года назад

      I cant really speak on inpatient endo cuz ive only done outpatient, but either way, endo is definitely more stressful than other specialties like ICU or med surg

    What do you think about inpatient endoscopy? Is it relatively the same?

    • @luvnurseb5552
      @luvnurseb5552  3 года назад +2

      Yup it it relatively the same, but you will do a few more additional procedures that are not done outpatient like EBUS and liver biopsies. I did a share day at inpatient endo at a community hospital and it was still dum easy.

      @@luvnurseb5552 Is being on call as bad as they say it is? J/W because im considering an offer for endoscopy but currently work a job that doesnt have call

    • @luvnurseb5552

      @@royjohnson9043 so that completely depends on the facility. There is no call for outpatient endo. The place I did share time at for inpatient, they told me they take a lot of call, I think like 3 days a week. I had another interview at another inpatient endo where they did an entire week of call at a time. I dont remember how often they would have to do it though. I work regular PACU now and the call requirement at my facility is very reasonable...just one 24 hr and one 8 hr call in a 6 week period..doesnt get any better than that! If I were you, I would ask the manager what the call requirement is before you accept the job.

    Thanks for the video. How did you explain to the endoscopy employer the reason you switched from OR to endoscopy? I would appreciate a response if you dont mind. I have interview next week. Im also from the OR looking into endo.

      Hi there! I was honest...I told her that it wasnt a right fit. It wasnt what I thought it was going to be and I didnt like scrubbing. She was very understanding. Good luck with your interview!
