She really depicted how people act ridiculously when they are alone. (rooms, cars etc.)
You don't have the social setting to keep it restrained. Hence you go a bit over.

You need to have a dream. A vision. A goal. An ambition. An aspiration. A dream.
You need to have a leader personality. Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.
You need to be authentic. Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.
You need to listen to your intuition. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice.
You need to believe in what you are doing. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.
Personally, I have a radical new product that will change an uncompetitive, dinosaur industry. Would you like to invest in the future of medicine? Call me.

Sand Hill Road - where some of the major centure capital firms in Silicon Valley are headquartered. Been on it and driven by it many times. These guys are half interested in her company and just plain toying with her. I see it on their facial expressions.
They'll throw millions of dollars at a couple dozen companies on the chance that one of them will become the next Google or Facebook. The gains from one company will far outstrip what they lose from the others. A lot of phony entrepreneurs know this and take rides on the VC carousel for 2-5 years, have some fun pretending to build technology companies, then disappear when the money dries up. When there's new money to be made, they'll come back and do it again. Elizabeth Holmes was not an aberration. She just got more press.

There really is a difference between IT and... well... everything else. That is why resumes and degrees are important in older industries.
IT is one of VERY few industries were development can get so far ahead of schools that degrees aren't useful, but it is the exception not the rule. Healthcare, aeronautics, heavy manufacturing, energy, etc... have been major industries for over a century and you really do need to do the work to even speak the same language as people in the industry.

One thing the show displays is how she figured out that her gift was in playing on old men with money. She appealed to their egos and the fact that they felt like they had to prove they could still compete in a young persons game. She really wasn’t even pretty. She just played on perception.

    • @Ealsante

She goes to people with money but without domain expertise, and also with a healthy dose of the same sociopathy that she has. If you're a medical professional, you know things (medicine) and you also care about things (will this hurt people?). Holmes managed to find people who neither know nor care, but can invest anyway.
