    I like the outboards because it gives more storage below the cock pit. I do not like hauling that much gas and I don't like the fact that you can't fish off the back because the outboards are in the way. Does this have wireless remote bow thrusters? I love the "cave birth". I don't like the placement of the electronics in there. I think they would be better located somewhere more accessible. I do not like, (because I have been on one of these before" the flip seat for the main helm. It is very awkward and not comfortable. I would like to see a dedicated helm seat for this. The downside of a diesel inboard, takes up more storage space. The upside, many more hours of run time if maintained properly and less volatile fuel. Gas vs diesel, gas is cheaper. I do love the fly bridge on this very unusual for a gas powered outboard. For this boat, I love how the flybridge helm can collapse when towing. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it an 8.5. Which is very good. Nick did an excellent job on this walk through. None of this crap showing or saying, "here is storage, here is a cabinet, here is storage, here is another cabinet with storage. I have seen videos like this where they open every damn drawer. We know what a damn drawer looks like.

    Also seems like the Mercury Verado 350 or 400s should be offered as an option
    Other than that impressive. The features on this boat are punching above is asking price weight by nearly a factor of two. IMHO, there is one competitor in this class and price range, the Aspen 108. I have a very tough decision to make....

    What’s the philosophy behind having the appliances 12 volt only? Wouldn’t it be better to have them auto switchable to work off both shore power and 12v so when at a marina you aren’t constantly charging your battery bank?

    • @SundanceYachts
      @SundanceYachts  3 года назад +3

      Great question Edmund. Away from the dock 12 volt power is more efficient, safer, easier to store, and easier to generate more of (engine alternator or solar for example) - so the boats are optimized for that. Individual components have to be one or the other. If you supply 120 volts to a 12 volt component it will destroy the component. Too much power. Therefore when possible the systems are 12 volt. Some components don't work or don't work well with only 12 volts (like air conditioning) which necessitates the addition of a generator to produce 120 volt AC power when not plugged in at the dock. Some other components that need 120 volt AC power like a coffee maker can be run on an inverter, which converts 12 volt DC to 120 volt AC but at about a 15% power loss due to efficiency. Here's an article that isn't be helpful:

    Air conditioning and generator? Maybe I missed the generator?

    • @SundanceYachts
      @SundanceYachts  4 года назад +2

      Hi Dirk, this specific boat is the Northwest Edition, which uses propane cooking, diesel heat, and 12 volt components in lieu of air conditioning/generator. The overwhelming customer preference in our region is for the NW Edition. Other markets however go with the gen/air cond combo - like Florida or southern California. But to be clear - it can be ordered either way.

    I'd like to compare consumption efficiency compared with boats of comparable weight and design. Kindly provide performance information: GPH, MPG at the speed/RPMs that you've noted.

    • @KieranCox
      @KieranCox 3 года назад

      ya that data is missing. However, you can calculate is yourself. He says best cruise by feel was 27mph at 5100rpm. Per the boat fuel consumption site: www.boat-fuel-economy.com/yamaha-outboard-fuel-consumption-us-gallons
      Yamaha F300 engines burn about 19.3gph at 5000rpm. There's two of them so thats approximately 38.6gph. Since he was running at 27mph, your fuel economy in mpg is 27mph/38.6gph = 0.70mpg.
      I think he was not at the best cruising speed for efficiency. As he claimed 5500rpm had the boat at 48mph. The math for that speed works out to 48mph/(23.5gph * 2) = 1.02mpg.
      At the off plane cruise of 11mph at 2600rpm works out to 11mph/(5.2gph * 2) = 1.05mpg (which is decent for boat that size)
      Long story short, with this boat either run it full out or slow it down to get best efficiency. Your range at 48mph is the same as 11mph at about 270miles with a 10% reserve remaining. (Granted he made no mention of how full the gas or water tanks are, and there was only the presenter and camera guy on board... so the mpg will CERTAINLY be worse when you're out there with full tanks, full water, 3 of your friends and 8 co-eds running around...but I digress...)

    • @dwerren
      @dwerren 3 года назад +1

      @@KieranCox I can confirm that 0.7 is right on after hours of testing this boat. Can climb up to about 0.9 at 38mph and above. There is something going on with the stepped hull that does not produce the classic "optimum cruise speed" - hopefully FM is working on it.

    • @KieranCox
      @KieranCox 3 года назад

      @@dwerren I'll bet the mpg goes up substantially if you stay below the hull speed for this vessel. They don't list the LWL, but I'm going to take a guess that it's close to 35', which gives the following for hull speed 1.34 * sqrt(35) = 7.93knots = 9.1mph.

    • @KieranCox
      @KieranCox 3 года назад +2

      @@dwerren you know I've been thinking about it, I think the engines are too small to give great fuel economy at cruising speed. I think this boat needs twin Merc Verado 400s or twin 450R engines. Very likely more the later. The ridiculous torque of the 450R supercharged V8s burning appx 22gph at 3500rpm would have this boat cruising at likely 41mph.
      That would give you 1.8mpg at 41mph with those big boys.
      With the twin 400s the cruising speed would be like 34-35mph and likely the same 1.8mpg.
      Long story short, the twin 300 Yamaha engines aren't powerful enough to get this big double stepped hull design up to it's optional cruising speed without burning a LOT of fuel to hold it there
