At the beginning of the video you said it had way to high of gears 5.29 or something… lol that would be an EXTREMELY low gear and would definitely help you out a lot
propane and dual cases would make it a rock star.
Don't forget front chromoly axles and hubs
Exactly! Rz swap or propane. Add some transfercase gears and that little truck will run all over the place.
4.7 with dual cases, A Got Propane kit, suspension and tires and you’re golden
He's been spoiled with the Jeepster 😂
Even dual cases with 2.28 he would be doing way better here where I am 4.7 in the 2nd case is way to low
@@tarheel4wd are you around NC? Seeing as your name is Tarheel I would assume so LETs go wheeling!?
@@tarheel4wd that’s forsure
@@Red_Beard_Builds2 x 2.28 cases compound to 5.2 which is lower than 4.7 by itself. 2.28/4.7 is the better way to do it IMO, gives you more options.
Wait wouldnt the 5.29 gears help instead of something lower!? 5.29 turns of the drive shaft for 1 wheel rotation is way better then anything lower
Exactly what I was thinking when he said that.
Yep, 5.29s are LOW gears, not high. They absolutely help with crawling.
Yep
Yeah that confused me
yea wut.
Trail 16 is a good one, really enjoy it. Don't over do the yota simple build and go all the places it "shouldn't".
Welcome to the dark side! 😂 yota for life here.
The carb is always going to be annoying but the best thing about those old toyotas is how easy it is to stack transfer cases. Get after it. (and get some rock sliders before you turn it in to a rasin). my 85 4runner punches way above its size/class. happy to see you get in something other than a jeep.
Having a super capable rig is great, but there's a lot to be said for sometimes driving something less capable. Obstacles that you normally wouldn't think twice about suddenly become a real fun challenge. If you do want to upgrade it doubling up transfer cases is pretty straightforward on those old Toyota's, and I'm sure Holly could sort you out with an EFI system. 😀
Welcome to the TOY world! I have a 83! Been wheeling it in the Sierras for 30 years
What a fun vid! Going back to basics! I think this will be a great series. Look forward to seeing more!
Great video! We had a great day riding with you and watching this beast in action! Badass driver with an awesome rig!
Great video man. Can't knock the Yoters. I owned a 1982 SR-5, stock except shocks and 32 x 10.50 BFG's. The little truck was amazing off road.
Trail 16 is one of my favorite's at Windrock and Sushi killed it for sure!! All the yota guys I know do the doubler setup to crawl it.
Couple minutes into the vid. This guy's gonna learn to love the yota!
One thing a rig like that teaches you is that often keeping a steady momentum can get you up a lot of stuff.
This was where I started and fell in love with wheeling! My first truck as an '80 long bed
A 4.7 case and that little rig will be a feeling hurter ! Wheeling a little and under powered rig takes very body back to the beginnings of their off-roading experience…before you had money and did whatever it took to get out and have fun. I’ve got a big built LS powered TJ on 43” stickies but I miss my old CJ on 31” mud tires and worn out L134 Go-Devil 4 banger!
Way to go Brotha!! Looks like you and Sushi are getting that bonding time!! Enjoy!!
What a little beast for 5K! I wish I could find something like that for that price. A rarity here in Canada 😢
Super awesome! Love seeing old school rigs!
I recently bought a Toyota on propane. I love wheeling it. But yes dual cases and a 4.7 low range kit are in the future
I'm in Washington state and we love our toyotas! We enjoy all your videos man, hope to see you on the trail some day!
Put a Marlin Crawler and that truck will become insanely capable! Low geared, underpowered rigs are an old school, super fun way to wheel!
I'm glad you're finally learning what the toyota life is about!
Windrock look absolutely amazing I bet it's hard not to have a blast there. What an adventure
Owned my 1980 for 16 yrs now, all stock on 31x10.50x15 and love to offroad it. Painted it camo too. Getting ready to sell it soon to get a snow plow. Sad days ahead. I'll miss that rig
That was a great video the Toyota did really good can't wait to see more videos of it
Awesome video. Love Sushi; it's a little Beast and has perfect stance. Great pleasure to meet you and wheel with you.
That's how we wheeled all my life. My uncle's and dad 70s square body and no fancy suspension just a lift and body lift and 35 inch tires. That's how we still do it
Haha that was awesome, you killed it in sushi!!
That little yota is a beast.
Put some Rock sliders/ scrub bars and a snorkel and lockers it will go anywhere put webber carberators on it! It will run great! Honestly I'd 2.8 Cummins swap it!!! 80 series suspension!
My main wheeling rig is a yj on 42" stickies. I just built a WJ on 35's and am having a ton of fun with it. It's nice driving to local trails and not dealing with loading and unloading the trailer. I'm learning quick that I can't have big rocks go under the diff. haha
I've got one just like that. Same color even. I love it.
Soon to be another fitst gen raisin . Dual cases and 4.7s in the rear case will get all the control and you will need . Dont be afraid to make those squirrels angry!
I need to get to Windrock. Missed the last couple trips with my buddies. Theat was some real happiness about having a roof! That bouncing would kill me but it sure looks fun!
I love my 22r! Had nothing but issues with my 22-re!
They are like legos to work on!
Been enjoying your videos a lot lately. Super entertaining to watch! Please keep them coming! Only one question for you, and that’s where are you from originally?
Nice job!
My first truck was a 1980 Toyota on 33s and that thing went anywhere I pointed it. I currently own Jeeps and Toyotas and love both brands.
crawl box and efi is what you need
Love the Yota i hope you get to see the 1st gen 4Runner me and my buddy are building, 43s 4 linked front and rear dual case’s I’m getting close to being done with it.
U have Instagram so I can follow ur build? I have 1st gen on 43s as well n would like to link it in Future
My first rig was a 92 yj on 34s to 36s depending on when i had it. Did an 8.8 swap in the year and cheap lunchbox lockers. Manual trans with a 2.5l. So much fun. I learned how to wheel in it. Now with my JKURR on 35s i feel spoiled.
Seeing you run up that last obstacle was impressive. The Toyota did great despite bouncing you around a lot.
Oh yeah love the little Toyota pickup
Wish we were there to see this!!! 😅
🎶 l love what you do for me Toyota 🎵🎤
And your jeep looks freaking cool…
Well done
The ol' Yota held her own and I'm sure proofed a lot people wrong. Way to go!!!
Damn I’m in love with that thing. Can’t believe you found one for 5k. They’re all like 15+ in ca
I went from wheeling a tj and jk to wheeling a first gen with no power steer no air con with the stock 2litre motor on 33s and it goes unreal! Air lockers and reduction gears made a huge difference and i out drive 50k cars on 37s! It’s a laugh
Its a Toyota, don't be scared to bounce the rev limiter
I really enjoy your videos but this is my favorite! Yota truck fun. Dual case it and ram assist with propane and you’ll enjoy it to the max.
it'll be a different truck...for the best of course!
Gotta love Toyota! Yes, Jeeps are very capable and appealing to the eye, but the reliability of Toyota is incomparable
I was looking for a jeep when I found my Gen 2 love it but still love jeeps
Be careful in that truck -baby don’t beat
Heck yeah
Awesome Marven! Yota works pretty good. Junk that weber carb put a stock one back on and it will do better. Me I'm from the Samurai clan. 😂😂
Nice!! 🍻😉👍🏻
Dual cases or a Marlin Crawler single 4.7 case and you'll have low enough gearing.
Out here in Arizona with a 86 4runner would love to try to wheel with ya in that out here. That thing is rad.
I looked for an old solid front axle Toyota for a long while and I couldn’t touch a decent one with 5k. Ended up with a 1990 single cab 22RE but it’s all good being I don’t do the hard stuff.
If it has 5.29s that’s pretty low for Toyota axles I wouldn’t go any lower because of the pinion size gets smaller each time.
Stop telling him what to do
Dual cases for sure, or even triple reduction boxes by marlin crawler!
🙌 yay Toyota!
I need to get out there 😭
Dual cases and fuel injection would make that truck unstoppable.
Lot better that jeeps I got 85 4 runner 4.3L love the Yota fell in love with the back to the future blk one and my dad's Hilux in the day white with those brown stripes ❤
The trick to driving these under powered time capsules is to keep your momentum up. These things dont crawl... they slug... but you have to keep up the momentum or you're back at square 1 again.
I’m 6’4 what seat do I look for for more room
Awesome deal for 5k! All you need is another transfer case ! And maybe some propane !
Mod that rig into a truggy. Tube out the back...dual transfer cases Eventually add rear steer.
He already has a buggy
Yota ❤️💥 its full funny 💥😊
Only a Toyota would 5:29 gears me "too high" 😂
I always figured 5-29 gears WOULD help it crawl. 🤷♂️
You should hit us GSMTR at windrock this weekend. One of the best Toyota events in the SE all year.
I’ll add the only thing better than wheeling a Yota is the community behind it.
Ok, I think finding an RZ motor would be the best sleeper option. If you want to be WAY unique, you could probably be the first AR engine swap into a toyota pickup. There are millions of AR engines in everything from Camry's, rav4, hybrids, and SUVs. They are a transverse engine but people have already done adapter plates to put them on rwd manual transmissions. Papadakas made a 1000hp AR corolla. Or check out Frankenstein Motorworks for all kinds of junkyard 2AR info. He's currently trying to make a 2AR as powerful as possible NA with mostly junkyard take off parts
If 5.29 gears are "way too high" what do you consider low? 🤣
Yota for the win. No better rig out there than an older Toyota
You really gotta rev the little 4 cylinder like it's a Suzuki. It doesn't have that jeep 4 liter torque
Set of Toyota duals & tight set diff gears will do wonders….
🐐🔥🔥💪🏼🤙🏽
Bob it, armor and dual cases
Twin case it!
Old Goat 🐐🐐🐐❤❤
5.29’s are too high😂😂😂😂
Chevy 63 leaf springs out back, my dude
Gears, lockers, a lower t case and a 22re would make this an absolute unit.. keep it simple
I have a Jeep I got for $800 and have about $200 in it and it made it up trails I have tried but never been up
This is good, how wheeling is for 90% of people
I don't know.....that looks pretty capable and pretty cheap for what you got.
I wold call that truck a goat
529s are better than stock not making crawling harder.
Turning into a Toyota guy real fast now 😂
Toyota for life
Are club does a cheap truck challenge every once in while get a truck and wheel under 2k it's a blast going back to basics a wheel something that your not use to
Propane single case 4.70 in the case and 40 inch tires and 6 shooter knuckles and be done with it
I have a 83 and it will climb with any thing
Need dual cases
I wheel the shit out of my original 85 i also daily it. I have 5.29's they are the best airlockers on board air with an atlas hooked up to the original toyota case trans and engine. If u wheel in washington state maybe we see eachother at elbe or something aloha 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
What everybody said, plus you don't have 40k invested.
