Looking good! I've been following along since the first update and I just wanted to say, I hope you're not dissuaded by all the attention that other No VR mod has received. Yours is significantly more polished.
Impressive work! My only nitpick is the weapons need a little sway when looking around, add a little human-ness to the on-screen weapons and add that last little "Valve feel" to the mod. Fantastic work though!
You could move the camera to emitter of the trail facing towards the goal of the trail. It would be like looking down a tunnel. From there you've effectively eliminated the Z axis as a thing to measure while controlling a trail through offset circles by just moving the mouse around on your monitors 2d plane. Ideally you would take that camera view and place that in a window in front of your first person view, and also from the peripheral of that window you could even see the trail moving through the circles in 3d space, almost like a ghost is controlling it. I don't know if the current Source 2 tools are capable of that, though I would guess they are. Hope all this made sense

Yeah, but that other one is not nearly as polished and has missing features and quality of life improvements. I'm happy to wait for this mod to get finished in its own time. No sense pining for an incomplete product.

Wonderful, so glad you are doing this. After the Mod comes out fully I wouldn't mind donating to a patron or something. So long as it's legally allowed.
This is incredible! If I can suggest a UX improvement for the dry erase markers, I think it would be more usable if the centered reticle turns into a mouse pointer when you begin drawing while the mouse is held down. That way you can draw with the mouse from the perspective of your current camera view instead of drawing "with your neck" by angling the view. For gamepad input, probably the current approach would need to be kept, but this would be nicer to use with a mouse.
It looks very nice and I was surprised how the hacking was transferred from VR. And from interacting with the environment, I have vibes of Amnesia and Penumbra
Mod looks amazing! The highlights on interactable objects reminds me of Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. I love the level of interactivity of VR being maintained for the flat screen experience with that clean UI.
For the Puzzles: Would it make sense to add WASD Rotation Controls to rotate the orb without having to click to drag it? For Reloading: What about adding a Manual Reload Option as a way for people to make the game harder if they want, while keeping near the spirit of how Reloading in HLA-VR was balanced for the slower gameplay? For example: Let’s say TAB opens the gun and ejects a clip onto the ground if there’s one inside. If you push TAB again you close the gun. Q grabs Ammo out of your Backpack and holds it in Alyx’s left hand onscreen, Q again puts it back in your Backpack instead. R while holding ammo in your left hand loads it into an opened gun. R while your gun is closed locks it. If you’re holding a Grenade with E, you can push R to attach it to the Shotgun if you have the upgrade.
@@Koteshfriend to simulate what reloading is like in half life alyx. the pace of the game is slower so alot of the combine ai was balanced around how long it could take alyx to fiddle with her gun when she's empty. it was a tactile feel that allowed you to mess up or be sloppy to increase tension without being overwhelming. I broke it up by actions that would make sense. Grab/Stow Ammo Key Open/Close Gun Key Reload/Lock Gun Key Unlike normal half life games, this game isn't balanced around RUN THINK SHOOT LIVE. Ammo Management is absolutely part of the balance of Alyx's combat loop. It's why the combine and antlions are so slow and aren't very aggressive.
Seeing how amazing this "demake" is, and how amazing the HL2 VR mod was, and the fact that big games like Hitman tested the waters with both VR and Flat modes for their game... this gives me hope that Valve can and will make a future HL game that will be able to be played in both Flat and VR... to please the flatscreen fanboys... but also please the hardcore VR fanboys who want more fast-paced no-compromise gameplay like HL2 VR
Great to see this getting better and more polished every video. It already looks like an official update from Valve. Now that the other no VR mod has released, you can take as long as you need to make this as great as possible! Also, one suggestion: maybe consider implementing the free aim system from Insurgency, where your crosshair isn't stuck to the center of the screen, but instead shifts about as you move your mouse. Would help to simulate how much harder the aiming in VR is compared to flatscreen. I have no idea how hard this is to implement though, so it's just a thought!
Even having played the game in VR, I'd be down to replay it one day with your mods once it drops, this looks incredibly polished and actually translate a lot of the interactions that other mods don't do
FOV is nauseatingly low for the vid hehe BUT this is far beyond what i thought was capable for modding this game. great job, might actually wanna try this when it's done
This looks really good. I especially like how you seem to have incorporated the Frictional Games (Amnesia, SOMA) style of world interaction. I always found those games to be very immersive despite not being VR.

We get to solve puzzles now )) And the shotgun animations are kickass, I'm glad that my model re-combining/re-rigging helped For those who don't know, weapon models in HL:A consist of separate mdl's (or vmdl_c's in sauce 2), and it's not a very conventional way to animate in first person. So I've combined them into a single model
It's really great to see this project coming along so well. As much as I have always advocated to play Alyx in VR because of just how good it is in VR, It's a hard ask for someone to drop several hundred dollars to play one game. I'm glad this mod exists so that any HL fan can at least experience the story for themselves.

Hooray, the project is not abandoned! I'm still waiting for its release. Unfortunately, I didn't quite wait and in May I went through the game through another no vr mod, but I went through with cheats and bugs, so I'll be happy to go through the perfect port of the game again. Thank you for your patience in porting the game, I'm sure it's terribly hard work, and I'm very surprised that you can develop such a complex project on your own initiative❤

Incredible progress! Congrats! Just a small fix to mention: the HUD drawing of a hand grabbing something and letting it go are reversed. It should change to a hand grabbing something once you grab something. And before you grab it, it should appear the HUD drawing of a hand almost about to grab something
Looking good. One thing I hope happens with at least one of the NoVR mods is that the weapon animations get inspired by Resident Evil 7's, where the weapon is raised or held at alyx's chest until the player hip fires or aims to shoot, cause that makes the most sense for conveying the game's VR origins. I also hope that there's eventually an (optional) camera view bob that's in sync with the speed of her movement. Alyx plays more like a first person resident evil game than a half life game in practice (especially with the Jeff chapter) so it makes sense to go in this direction for combat and movement pacing reasons imo.

I like how instead of making a awkward activate animation for the hacking tool that have her aiming and twisting the tool in the air you changed it closer to how it's used in HL2

One thing that I would reccomend is to make the enemy IA more agressive and, also, by making them more resistant (more life points) and faster too. This would increase the whole experience in a flat screen gameplay. Anyway, you guys already made a huge progress until now! Congratulations!
@@leonardopinheiro3434 they're already more bullet spongy than enemies in hl2 ever were just by playing in hard mode. a smarter ai would be nice though, even in VR!
Weird thing to compliment but I appreciate that you didn't go down the "CoD MW19" route with those shotgun animations. They look very "Valve-y" and simple, which is nice and easy to look at.
hey, dunno if you read comments but i have a suggestion: when a strider walks in the game, would it be possible to have the screen lightly and dynamically shake like in HL2?
@@MJ-mu3kb I mean, none of this is how you're meant to play the game. The VR experience's FOV is based solely on your headset as are any other VR games. And HLA's VR accessibility settings were pretty good imo.
VR in and of itself is pretty inaccessible, even if you do have the money its still gonna give most people motion sickness. Alyx looks like a lot of fun, but I wish valve would've implemented a basic non-vr version for us OG fans at least.. @@AbbyRawks

The shotgun animations are borderline perfect and mimic a lot of Valve's viewmodel animation style. Good work!

Receiver-styled mechanics would be great. HLA just isn't designed around traditional FPS gameplay.

I don't think moving crosshair is a good idea.

yeah, half life alyx was an accessibility nightmare. VR and very low FOV is just a recipe for motion sickness.

Some of those puzzle solving and doors hacking reminds me of old game called Penumbra Black Plague.
