  • Surely as we approach 2022 people have learned to read file extensions for a spiderman homecoming torrent and not run random .exe files they found on the Russian side of the internet. Apparently not.

This is one of the many reasons why Windows hiding certain file extensions by default is dumb. The main reason this works is if the user doesn't change the default they don't see the .exe

Relative risk of getting murdered: Kinda high tbh. Especially on sales.
      2. Tech support: It's far _far_ more disgusting than what you first expect. The thrill of watching other people's files dies out extremely fast. You must _really_ like computers to survive in that job, otherwise it's a boring ass job where you have to account for people's utter ignorance. Can get amusing or extremely depressing, depending on how well you cope with that: One day I "fixed" someone's MacBook that was "stuck"... _It was the screensaver._ (I refused to get paid for that because come the fuck on...)
Relative pay: Depends on whether you get paid a fixed salary or by commission, but you aren't feeding a family and paying mortgage with that salary anytime soon.
Relative risk of getting murdered: You could get stabbed outside the job.
      3. Call center: The worst. Hell is a call center. You get verbally abused and you don't even get to look smug in front of the other person. People are somehow stupider while on the phone, and that's a fact. Tech support is an absolute cancer job. It can't be taken over by AI quick enough. If I'm offered a call center job I'd rather shit on my hands and clap. Plus, you may get mistaken by a scammer or something.

Windows always has been extremely primitive when it comes to file type recognition. Back in around 1987, even the Commodore Amiga understood the concept of file types based purely on reading the contents of the file headers, it did not matter what file extension you used on a file. You could even create your own file type definitions within Amiga Workbench.
Even some Linux desktops appear to suffer from the same "laziness" and require the correct file extension before they open in the correct application by clicking on the file icon.

In regards to modern games not or barely utilizing a multi-core architecture, it's because there's a significant trade-off. The more threads one adds to a game loop, the more time the "master" rendering thread fights for the finite resources necessary to feed actual data to the GPU. We've really seen a lot of progress made on this in recent years, but the simple fact remains: the more threads utilized, the more time spent fighting between those threads.

That is not the only problem: Bohemia Interactive, a tech giant selling millitary simulations, was in bad light for years for utilizing only one core in software that had over 4GB of code dedicated to CPU calculations. It got so far that they even gave an official statement to governments that they would like to offer multi core support, but simply can't, because the software has to be handcrafted for each arbitrary numbers of cores to fight race conditions, timing missmanagement and deadlocks. Imagine a company having to write up to 32 different versions of their software, I too would take the most common denomitor.
In the case of BI, they said, that everything with less than 2 cores no longer can use their software and made it use 2 real and 2 virtual cores.

@Watcher Lets not forget PRC and USA gov make hardware/software vendors add backdoor for the NSA and PLA.
*Remind me where most of our hardware and software is made*
indeed putting out a relatively harmless program that would be spread by novices increases the probability of a "bugfix" before a more sinister use turns up in the wild

@Watcher because they weren't given the proper motivation.
Antivirus companies and software patches will be forced to address a vulnerability so its best said vulnerability be used by a relatively harmless program that is still incentivizing a bugfix

Install malwarebytes and perform a scan. If it still persists, do some optimization that's drive related (ex. defragmentation for HDDs). If it still persists after that, backup your files that are not executable and nuke your OS.

Any tips on how to detect those things if they bypass default antimalware applications? I am not a complete retard, yet my gpu usage differs from literal 5 percent usage to 20 from time to time, even if I don't change anything. This might be browser combined with wallpaper engine that eat it up, but do they really use that much? I don't have a problem with GPU for sure and it is RTX 2070. I have also enabled power saving mod via windows power settings, so this might also be the case. Do I have to worry, guys?

Actually what you said where the last file extension is the one it goes with, is not really an over simplification. as I believe since windows XP you can have dots in the file name so when windows sees movie.avi.exe windows is thinking "movie.avi" is the file name and .exe is the file type so as far as it's concerned there is only one file type mentioned the .exe the rest is part of the name. no different to windows then if the file was named movie.exe

    • @terrydaktyllus1320
      @terrydaktyllus1320 2 года назад +1

No, social engineering does not normally deploy malware. Social engineering is claiming to be somebody you are not in order to obtain sensitive information like a password or credit card number directly from a victim who believes by virtue of misplaced trust that you are who you say you are.
Malware and social engineering are two different attack vectors.

You getting the password to her account so you can install the malware yourself? Or you sending the malware to her and then instructing her how to install it on her account?
The answer is that you haven't got a clue, sonny. You need to go and read a few basic security books.
