THE FIRST EVER BBC BROADCAST | 100 Years On | 2LO Calling...

- On the 14th November 1922, a voice was heard on the wireless or crystal sets that small groups of Londoners had put togehter... a voice calling London... 2LO calling, 2LO...
100 years later, the British Broadcasting Company (now Corporation) has grown to be one of the leading forces in British television, providing several channels, digital services and a wealth of local radio. However, in the medium it began, the medium of radio, the BBC wasn't as structured or organised, with the early pioneers in the Company figuring it out as they went along! So join me as we honour the 100th anniversary of the very first radio broadcast from the BBC!

Happy 100th Birthday BBC Studios.
1922 - 2022.
100 Years. X
Always so interested in history of the BBC. This was such a historic moment in history
Certainly was! Laid the foundation of things to come!
Well Isn't That A Thing! 100 Years Of BBC Radio! And Lots Of Things Are Changing
Congrats on BBC 100! Interesting to see how the BBC began and developed from a few scattered stations into what it is today. Over here, there had been much experimental radio in the late 1900's and through the 1910's, but generally KDKA/Pittsburgh is given credit as doing the first formal American broadcast from the Westinghouse Electric plant in East Pittsburgh in November 1920, broadcasting election returns. Westinghouse, AT&T and General Electric all built early stations, along with hundreds of others, and the US Commerce Department licensed them. The first 'network' was an ad hoc grouping of stations to broadcast President Coolidge in 1925; most of that group became the National Broadcasting Company in 1926 with two networks, Red and Blue. The Columbia Broadcasting System followed in 1927 and the Mutual Broadcasting System in 1935. NBC Blue became the American Broadcasting Company in 1945.
There's evidence of sporadic radio broadcasts in America prior to 1920.
In 1906 Reginald Fesseden made a voice broadcast on Christmas Eve from Brant Rock in the coastal town of Marshfield, Massachusetts.1909, Charles Harrold made experimental broadcasts from San Jose, California.
And Montreal's XWA (later CFCF and still later, CIQC) had regular programmes in 1919.
I love this channel... Just thought I'd let you know... Top work Adam.
Thank you very much 😊
This was so interesting! ❤️🥳 You're a BBC Brainbox!!
Excellent video Adam!
Thanks Roger!
@@AdamMartyn No worries!
Good work there Adam! Naturally watching How The BBC Began goes without saying, but just for a bit of a laugh, could I also suggest The Love Box In Your Living Room?
Great video nice history.
i love you
what i couldn't understand was when the BBC turned 100, there were no programmes shown on the history of the corporation..
Isn't that nice. 100 years of pure broadcasting!
in our sub region there are folk genuinely upset that after 25 years Wave 105 has gone from the airwaves. to think that radio can broadcast a Chris Tarrant soundalike as its biggest star presenter repeating the same 200 tunes only interrupted by details of heavy traffic at rush hours ,failure of temporary traffic systems 50 miles away & headline celebrity news every 15 minutes & still be missed by a section of the public must demonstrate the power of even mindlessly generic radio . 🙄👍❤️
Wait so the first UK radio broadcast was made by us Northerners? That's a change
Nothing about the bbc lol but itv has just rebranded to itv 1! Can’t wait to watch the video
Adam have you seen the new itv idents???
Do you like BBC or ITV? BBC in general but ITV’s regions
I like elements of both! Neither are perfect but they're historic in their own ways. Shame we no longer have the regional ITV structure!
@@AdamMartyn same here!
Not a fan of ITV since it removed the regional stations…
I’d pay the licence fee for radio alone…I know this isn’t a popular statement but I think some people believe that the news is the only thing the BBC produces…it is much, much more and would be a massive loss if it didn’t exist.
can you do a review of the new idents for itv 1 2 3 4 and be
Wow, this is only an ad, no BBC 🤷🏻♂️
Sadly no isle of man bbc radio or tv a islnd pay bbc but get no isle of man rdio or tv
