- The BBC turns 100 years old today!
Ever since first taking to the airwaves of the wireless in 1922, the British Broadcasting Company (later Corporation) went on to not only establish itself as one of the most influential and dominant forces in radio, but also a ground-breaker in the realm of television! From the inauguration of the BBC Television Service in 1936, all the way up until its current attempts to survive in the digital age, the BBC has consistently evolved, entertained and served as a key bastion of continuity over the last 100 years!

Happy 100th anniversary, BBC! Here's to another 100 years of awesomeness!
I am 37 and for me growing up the BBC were miles ahead in children's programming compared to ITV. CBBC was at its peak when I was young, from around 1989 to 1999 it was fantastic. I remember coming home from school to watch Byker Grove, Grange Hill, Bodger and Badger, The Demon Headmaster, The Really Wild Show, Newsround, Blue Peter, Hartbeat, Chucklevision, Going Live, Live and Kicking etc etc. What a era. I loved it.
Weird - I'm 35 and preferred the CITV offerings...
I’m same age and completely agree.
People from all around the world should see this video at least once at some point by the end of the year! Happy Centenary, BBC! 🙂
Happy 100th birthday, BBC! It's genuinely amazing how far this company has come, here's to many more years!
Can't believe it's been 100 years
Happy Birthday to our BBC, thank you for everything. A worldwide institution and a standard of excellence, the BBC has unlocked universes and timestreams for us. Here's to the future. Funny old business, time.
Happy 100th Anniversary BBC!
Look how far BBC has come happy 100 years
Happy birthday, Auntie.
🎉 Happy 100th Birthday To BBC! From I As "Australia" 🎉
Where do i begin.
TV - the BBC1 balloon
Radio - Radio 2 with Popmaster
IPlayer - rewatching old episodes of Top Gear

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BBC!🥳🥳🥳
Well, I'm 27 and I do love seeing a great program from this legendary broadcaster. But, anyway, happy 100th anniversary, BBC! Here's to another hundred more.
Happy 100th birthday to the BBC!
Happy 100th to the BBC my favourite tv/radio company.
Happy 100 years
Happy 100th Birthday BBC.
Happy birthday Auntie!😃😃😃
Why your auntie?
@@milliesworld4107 Auntie is the BBC's nickname.🙂🙂
HAPPY 100th ANIVERISTY BBC! 2022
Happy 100th birthday BBC 🥳
Happy centenary, BBC!
One of the greatest TV channels in the UK!
Happy birthday BBC!
It's remarkable... the BBC is the world's oldest broadcasting corporation, the inspiration for all other public broadcasters outside the UK.
My personal experience with the BBC is actually through cable, growing up in the Philippines. I always tuned in to BBC World News because it's way more formally structured and professional than CNN, and has always been my go-to news information source. I also watched some BBC history docus here and there. A bit later on I discovered Doctor Who when I was 14 years old, near the end of the David Tennant era. Despite the challenges (and the naysayers included), I hope the BBC keeps on doing what it's doing. Happy 100 years! Here's hoping for 100 more!
Happy (8-day belated, being my favourite number) Centenary, BBC! You're the reason why I dug up and retrieved the majority of my treasured childhood shows, including 64 Zoo Lane, Lunar Jim, Charlie & Lola, Little Robots, Koala Brothers, Mama Mirabelle's Home Movies, Tinga Tinga Tales, and Jakers! The Adventures Of Piggley Winks to name way more than a few. Truly, there has never been a moment more extraordinarily amazing and wonderful than this!😄🤩🥰🥳🎂👶🧒
Is it just me, or are the BBC rather reluctant in celebrating this centenary? If I was at the BBC, I would have made the whole of 2022 a year of celebrations. Instead, the BBC are offering a smattering of specials in just one week in October. This is a momentous occasion, and the BBC should have had a centenary year, with specials aired monthly through the centenary year. Just my opinion.
Well, that´s may be because the queen just died, so the reluctance may be justified in this case?
There's been a lot of twitter fuss over the Dr Who special "for the centenary". I agree, though, there was a huge amount of programming for the 50th, including "The Last Good Show of All", which closed with "we will be back for the 100th". If only.
@@guilhermelemosdeazevedo4780 That may have factored in the decision, but the hostile environment, with a malign Government and Culture Secretary won't have helped.
Personally, I feel highlighting the positive contribution of the Beeb to our life and culture might have deterred any malicious action from Westminster, just as Channel Four has produced a furious backlash against its sale on the open market by acting positively to garner public support
Congratulations.
Happy 100th birthday Auntie Beeb, especially the 30th birthday of Cartoon Network for the US! 🥳🎉
Happy Centenary to this Broadcasting Company itself! Love from 🇵🇭
It's mad to think that the BBC or Auntie as some people like to call it is 100 years old! They've come out with some great TV shows; like Gavin and Stacey, Top of the Pops, Dr Who and uhh, Panorama? Not forgetting the nostalgic shows from my childhood like Horrible Histories. (If you enjoyed HH, you'll enjoy Ghosts, it's written by the original cast of HH and they star in it, it's hilarious).
I feel that they've done better with regionalised programming both in TV and radio than their contemporaries, I feel that they care more about it rather than just phoning in a news bulletin (drivetime show in the cases of Heart and Capital) in the hopes that it constitutes as local programming (looking at you, ITV).
I know that the BBC much like any organisation isn't perfect, but it's such a valuable institution in British society.
I forgot to mention, that BBC Radio 1 (at least in the 2000s) was a lot more varied in their playlists, you'd get R+B, hip-hop/rap, rock and alternative, dance/electronica, pop and indie. They still kind of are now, if you listen a bit later on in the night (in the "graveyard" shift, like 10pm-1am) you get stuff like a dedicated rock show, then a dedicated drum and bass show, an Ibiza style house and dance show (Pete Tong still hosts if I remember correctly).
Phew, that was a huge essay...
Thank you, Auntie!
My first memories of this British television powerhouse came in around April 2003 when the BBC preschool show Tweenies was acquired by Nickelodeon USA to air on the April 7th, 2003 Moose & Zee (Paul Christie) rebrand of the Noggin preschool channel back when it was a cable TV channel before rebranding into Nick Jr. at the end of September 2009 and not a streaming SVOD app that has all the modern Nick Jr. series since the debut of the never-ending PAW Patrol saga in August 2013.
Wow, the time flies!
happy birthday
Happy birthday to the Beeb
Happy 100 Anniversary To The British Boardcasting Corporation!
My favourite memories of the beeb is from when I was a kid in the 80’s which was the start of CBBC from postman pat to Thundercats to Blue Peter to Hartbeat to teenage mutant hero turtles to pigeon street to the family ness and many, many more. Also all the live sport they have shown over the years and the greatness of Grandstand on a Saturday afternoon. Plus my son adores Hey Duggee it’s his favourite.
oh wow I didnt know they were turning 100! epic
Yes, My Name Is "Australia"
I’ve watched the Horrible Histories special
Any chance of doing an Ident Review episode of the BBC 100th Anniversary Idents for 2022 (including the ones for the company's birthdate of October 18)
Happy 100th Birthday, BBC!
By the way Adam, on Strictly this Saturday, they're doing a BBC Centenary Special. And one of the couples, Tyler West & Dianne Buswell, is doing a tango to the Doctor Who theme tune. AND The Power of the Doctor is on Sunday. So yeah, plenty for the Whovians.
You should have played the FULL Kings Singers BBC 1978 Radio Makeover song before the credits roll
To be honest, I never thought I would write this, but my feelings on this well deserved anniversary are actually quite conflicting, it's joy mixed with dread, have no idea whether the BBC will still be around in the next 100 years, all thanks to budget cuts and a very bad management
Please remember, people said after the war the BBC might not survive, and it did. In 1955 when ITV launched they were starting to make the gravestone for the BBC, but by the 60s the BBC was beating ITV again. BBC will always remain. It will just look and feel different. The current charter runs to the end of 2027, so we have a fair few years left of this charter first.
@@johnking5174 I'm just worried about how different is going to be
I’m from across the pond. But as a child I grew up watching children’s programming made by the BBC. That’s where I evolved to watching BBC World News nowadays.
Happy 100th Anniversary to the BBC, to make a channel here in the US with AMC Networks and Discovery that is BBC America
The BBC has driven plenty of advances in broadcasting technology and content over the past 100 years (eg iPlayer - which didn't invent streaming but made it more widespread, like Adam says). But the media landscape is changing so fast, so it will need to eveolve rapidly to keep up.
The One Show is from Adrian to Matt to Ronan to Jayjay Jeans!
Long live the BBC!
Fun Fact!: The BBC is now 100 years old so that means that it was made in 1922 (4 years before Queen Elizabeth II was born R.I.P) which is the same year the welsh mascot (not the dragon) "Mistar Urdd" was created! so this means that Mistar Urdd & The BBC Has outlived WW2, Elizabeth I, II, The USSR, The Cold War, The Cinema Premier Of "Nosferatu" and many more!
100 years of UK’s greatest company who ever deserves more love.
My favourite memory of BBC was watching the first National Lottery draw. 2 hours of Noel Edmonds
I must wonder wouldn't this be a good time for the king to issue a 100 birthday card to the BBC and surely it could be a nice playful way to show a fun and human side of him and give a kings honour to it
Weird things about me 1: Since it's 100 years of BBC, i used to watch BBC news on pbs sometimes to hear the theme music.
don't forget s4c will be 40 on November 1st🙂
wow 100 hundo happy centuary birthday
I've seen Dimbleby's series, and just read the book myself, and found them quite interesting. Yes, it's true the BBC makes mistakes, but who doesn't? And overall, they do a fantastic job. And the fact that they were willing to air documemtaries that specifically picked part some of their wrongs, increases my respect for the corporation - they're not tying to brush them under the carpet. Instead, they're accepting that they happened, and learning from them.
100 years of BBC. I W was there for 82 of them - well at least since 1944. My gratitude is immense : Toytown. Said the cat to the dog: Norman and Henry Bones the boy detectives : Just William: And so any more. It fuelled a never ending childhood passion for books and libraries. Never saw Children’s TV as was grown up by then. Then FAWLTY.: One foot: Hancock: and so on. It truly hurts my heart to see/hear how far BBC has deteriorated these days. Dumming way. way down in a fruitless attempt to be all things to all men. My intellect is shamed.
I actually liked the testcard
Can the BBC "STOP" its 1997 logo? It keeps showing on TV everywhere!
Missed opportunity to play the BBC1 Closedown version of "GOd Save The Queen" UK National Anthem over the channel endboard because your logo spoofs the BBC1 Globe
We wonder who founded the BBC.
(Happy 💯th!)
What about Disney?
are you going to do an ident review on the bbc 100 idents
Happy belated 100 BBC from a Yankee.
Long live the bbc
I didn’t know BBC America existed
🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍👍👍
Still not 100 years yet.
i'm very annoyed i feel the celebration has been very muted and the bbc it self has done very little for the 100 i was expecting so much more
the other ones aren't arch enemies.
except itv
Bbirthday
are you going to the season 2 bfi
Make an Ident review For Every BBC logo
happy 100th ditch the fee
My childhood memories from the seventies features TV heavily and, although ITV similalrly had good stuff, I think the BBC was better! In particular, they dominated Saturday night! Basil Brush, Doctor Who, The Generation Game, Mike Yarwood or The Two Ronnies, Starsky & Hutch or Kojak, then Parkinson & Match Of The Day!
Today, the real glory days may have gone, but, compared to what wlse is out there, by and large, the BBC still produces quality stuff, especially on the news front! It will be a sad day if it ever goes!
Always love your enthusiasm and appreciation for the BBC 🥰❤️🌈❤️
Apparently, there's a guy in chipping-norten who still actually watches the BBC. But He is 103, blind and has severe dementia. Granada tv was a pioneering station, never was the bbc.
Ps. I'd rather lick my dogs bottom than watch another series of
dr who, which has been carefully rendered unwatchable. Congratulations.
BBC TV started in the 1930s, ITV in 1956. Who was the pioneer again?
TV licence
I find Up Until around 2013 The BBC Used to Be amazing, Only by then I used to watch Eastenders, Watchdog, And Top Gear.
When Top Gear went Pete Tong, I no longer even watch anything now on the Broken Biscuit Company sadly. During 2020 I really was not Impressed with their News Coverage and the Lies not to Mention Fearmongering During The Pandemic.
We don't need to go into certain details, However when you had dodgy People Working there as well it really doesn't Put the BBC in good light.
Over all in my View Used to be absolutely amazing, But In the past 9 years I feel its really gone down Hill unfortunately.
If its Here in the Next 100 years we'll I shall never know as I will be sadly Gone by then, However It will be a miracle.
Leaves me to say, Happy 100 Years BBC. Quite an achievement eaither way you look at it.
Cumpany? Where's the 'U' in company?
the only dislikes are from itv.
Stop overgeneralising.
🤬😡😡😡
BBC some good shows but i think it has many faults as well
I dont support the bbc for the jimmy Savile controversy and the tv license harrasment
Booo BBC is the past Netflix is the future.
Happy 100th Anniversary BBC!
