Great video Thomas and Paal! I'd like to add a comment about noise. As TETers, we should make sure to use as little noise as possible. The right to roam implies a responsability to not disturb the other people using the land, like hikers and camping car tourists, landowners, etc. Use the OEM exhaust pipe! Don't open your mufflers! Noise is not cool on the Norwegian TET!

Great video and topic Tjommi! The rules with opportunities and responsibilities seems to be identical in Norway, Finland and Sweden. The right to roam or Allemansrätten is something that we need to care about. Not to take for something given that can't be changed. Over here the discussion is ongoing for a revision to the Allemansrätten. Something to think twice about. As adventure motorcyclists we need to pay attention to our footprint as well... Thanks for this very nice video on the subject, sure it will be useful for many out there.

Yeah, the last years heavy tourism has taken it's toll on some of the most famous "instagram" spots, so they have had to regulate the free of roam in the area. Like Lofoten and Stadtlandet. You should do something similar about Sweden. Even if it is pretty much the same, I think the viewers appreciate to hear it from your perspective as well 🔥👏🏻
@@tshansen it has definately gone crazy in some areas, while other areas has alot of room for us all. We have a resposibility to Leave No Trace, preferably leave the place in better shape than you found it as well and not occupie places more than 1-2 nights. At some places i've been this summer i see visotors that does not really seem to understand this. You are right, we are many that could contribute to this subject. I see more problem in the RV context than biker context for now.
@@Braapncamp Yeah, so many want to take the perfect instagram picture or update social media with those shot's that everyone else takes. It does not sound so bad, but when you see 20 to 30 tents on the same spot every night for two months. It leave a mark. I don't see this as a problem at all in the motorcycle community yet, we camp small and want to get out on the road again fast. I bet you see alot of this in the RV.. I have seen minor things, but people are polite when you make notice of it and tell them to think twice.
@@tshansen what we see is that the National Parks or vast forest areas is cramped with wildcampers from all over Europe. Every spot is occupied with RV's, those vanlifers 👀😅, rooftenters, tents and those damn hammockers 👀😅.... all compete to stay att available wildcamp spots. Some tend to stay alot longer than whats expected by our rules. I can imagine that some of the videos we produce ourselfs is a part of this. We show the good life we have in low season wild camping and lure others into it that often do not have this oportunities at all at home. 😅 again what we can do is what you just did. Work for an informative and sustainable way so that all could enjoy our wonderful nature. Both locals and visitors should feel great about this.
@@Braapncamp Yeah, we are probably some how a little bit to blame for people who want to visit, and therefor extra responsible for education on the subject. I hope we can share this with a positive thing and educate people on the rules. Because I think alot of people want to follow the rules, they just don't know about them.

I´m planning a motorcycle trip to Norway next summer(Senja, Alta Nordkapp). Since my M1800R2 is not the best bike for searching camp sites this rest place map is going to be so helpful. So thank you very much and really like your other videos also.

Thomas you always have such great drone and cinematic shots in your videos! Well done. That is great info about the rest places. Very nice that camping is allowed and legal at those sites. Leave no trace is a great standard but unfortunately I still come across people who leave trash behind. That is why I always carry extra trash bags with me just in case.

Nice idea with the collaboration :) Very informative video. A small add-on to the "allemannsretten" could be that "den norske turistforening" provides maps of trails and a rating system on how accessible they are. These trails often starts close to roads and in many cases rasteplasser.

Not a issue at all in most parts of norway. You have some parts where there is some wolf and bears, but they are quite shy and does not pose a treat towards people.
I seem to have missed this video. Very nicely produced and presented. Wild camping in Norway was indeed what I wanted to know and did ask you a while back. Looks fantastic. Didn't know about the rest areas and being able to stay there. Very useful. How about national parks or areas of outstanding beauty? I seem to remember in one of your videos I think you had to pay a toll to cross a pass or ride along a particular road? Would you not be able to wild camp along and off say this type of route? Do the tourist areas have more restrictions on where you can camp given they are more popular? And if you are near a town do you have to use the designated campsites or can you find a quiet place and just stick your tent up if it's more than 150m from a building? Also how much typically do campsites cost for a pitch for a small tent and motorcycle? Is electricity and shower included in the price?
Thank you Alex, glad you found it informative, and glad you ask these questions. There is some minor regulations because of heavy tourism in Reine (Lofoten) and Hoddevika where it's not allowed to free camp in the summer months. but Normal rules are that you can wild camp in all our national parks etc. As long as you stick to the free to roam rules. Some roads in the mountains and gravel roads are toll roads, but that does not mean you can't camp there. You can camp in a roundabout if you like (but I don't recommend that) 🤣 in the citys you can find a remote place and pitch your tent, you don't need to stay at a camp sites. Or you can find a rest place. Some beautiful spots have signs of No camping, but that is most likely a crazy neighbour who have put up because he want the place for him self. If the area are regulated as no camping, it is marked with proper sign and info about where yo get more information. To pitch a tent is about 20 euros. give or take. Some places there is a shower included, other places you need to pay 10,- KR. I never pick electricity, so I don't know if that is included or not, or even what the extra cost is. Hope that answered some of your question. Cheers
@@tshansen Yes Thomas a very full answer, thank you. Now for me I must decide how to best reach Norway from the UK with motorcycle. I think the ferry that used to run from Newcastle to Norway stopped a few years ago which is such a shame which means we Brits have to ride the whole way from Belgium to Norway and then in Norway itself, then back again!!! It would have to be a tour of several months to make it worthwhile and will need a fair bit of planning. I am thinking of getting an 890Adv R, the 790 Adv R is no longer available. I already rode the 890 Adv S version in June this year and liked it a lot. Either way it is a very long ride but Norway is sooo beautiful and totally worth it. Thanks again Thomas.
@@alexmorgan3435 hey, you might already have been to norway by now, or not.. buttt i wanted to let you know that: Since april 2022 here in the Netherlands, we have a ferry going from the north of netherlands (groningen) to Norway(kristiansand- hopefully spelled right) and back obviously. So it will make it much more easier for you(and me lol) to travel there!

@@grechishkina You are referring to the Vindskydd they have a lot of in Sweden and Denmark? We don’t have to many of them in Norway (sorry to say) We have some, but they are sometimes far away from the roads. Mostly used by hikers. There are also some cabins owned by the Norwegian tourist association but those are not free?

Well, the tiny mosquitos are active and really annoying from beginning of June to middle of august. Also some of the best summer months to enjoy the midnight sun etc. So you can't have it all (they say 🤣) Glad you found the video useful mate. Cheers 🍻

@@tshansen Its not a rule,but pit stops ment for trailers,no one else should stop ,if they have vehicle or camping etc. Semi trailers dont have a lot of options, and they HAVE to stop. Its not ok if those fills up with campers. Semi traimers are fighting to get the most important one's with signs dedicatrd to semi's. I mean, a motorbike isnt a issue for a semi trailer, but a vehicle IS.
First of all, thank you for the nice informative video's. and compliments for the editing with the nice end result! 2nd i have a question, i heard (one time only so far) from someone else who got a Heavy fine in Norway because he pitched his tent max 100m from the main road, with the motorbike. this was on a 2 track trail that looked like could be used by car too. In the morning while packing up the an offical came up to him to inform him that he was not allowed to drive on this track. even tough it was 100m. and later he recieved the fine. So the question is with this in mind, when you go wild camping with the motorbike (or at a rasteplass) do you have to park the bike at the main road/track ?? ( or can you confirm that the incident i heard is just an rare case for whatever reason we dont know) thank you in advance
Thank you Dino 🤩 Glad you found it informative. Well, this is so rare and unlikely I do believe it is a made up story, or not everything was told correctly in this story. Some trails are only for people or bicycle, if you ride the motorcycle here, you can get a fine. But people will most likely tell you to bugger off way before the law will find you. I always park my bike next to my tent or hammock when I wild camp. On rasteplass I ride my bike up on the gras or next to it. No one will say anything about this. But use common sense. Show respect and get respect. If you are a wise guy, you will be treated like that. Cheers 😉

I always ride my bike close up to my tent or hammock when using the rest places. I would say use common sense and if there are other people there. Ask if they think it's ok. @@haraldkramer8801 Most people do respect the small rules we got and I think that's why we can continue to have such a great thing here in Norway. You will always find those who just don't care, but that is far between. Mid October is a great time... the colours in the mountain is so beautiful then, but keep in mind, you can encounter heavy rain 😆

You are welcome sir. I'm not sure if they have altered the rules for using them, but you can find info about them at DNT here in Norway. And you have an app and webpage called UT.no here you can find hiking routes and the many cabins. Some are more popular than others. If you join DNT, you can buy a key for 100,- nok or something like that.
It’s very helpful to understand these land use laws. I still have one question, though. As an American - do these rules apply to me? I assume they don’t but it’s always best to check.

Hello Maraccini 👏🏻 Glad you found it helpful... As long as it looks like a road, not a hiking trail you can ride the bike down to the water. It is really hard for me to give a exact definition of what is allowed and what is not, but use common sense. If you ride completely offroad, it's not allowed. Most lakes, rivers etc has good gravel roads down to the shore in one place or another... your will clearly see where you can ride and where you should not ride 👍🏻

When you are traveling by motorhome, and you have a garbage bin in the motohome that is full, can you leave it at a restplace? Or is that only for the few things you consume at the restplace?
Yes, on most rest places (bigger ones) there is extra big garbage bins you can trow your garbage at. Some places there is none, or just a small bucket, I encourage you to use common sense in this matter 👏🏻 Cheers

Yes, we have bears and wolfes, but they are so few and shy of people! I have never encounter any of them in the wild here in Norway! So no need to be affraid

You might mention rest areas now only show on that map at zoom 8 and higher, which is a little awkward as it requires a lot of panning, and maybe should be pointed out to the website. Oooh... well, this is one question it is hard to answer. The law is one thing, but the definition of what a road is, and what looks like a road is sometimes not easy to put apart. So you will find a lot of gravel roads that people ride on, but by definition is not allowed to ride. When it comes to trails it is forbidden. same as truly offroad riding. If it looks like a path where hikers go, don't ride there. You know what... this is such a huge topic... I may just make a video about it. Thank you you for this question 👏🏻

A great video that speaks to the points I wish were included in you “Ten tips for riding in Norway” video! I would like to think that motorcyclists and hikers are already more alert to these issues- particularly NOT LITTERING! It is very sad to see a beautiful site defiled with plastic bags & packaging, and other debris… Ten or twenty years ago, this was almost never seen in Norway. Also, please be aware when camping on other’s land that while a wood fire is hyggelig (cozy?) and nice to cook with, you should do your best to limit the impact on the site from a campfire, and return things to how they were before you arrived- perhaps using a camping stove instead. At public sites, there are usually rules posted, or you can ask people… I worry that a few bad/lazy/uninformed visitors (bobil!) could ruin the right to camp on private land and if there are enough complaints and issues it could warrant revising the laws on free access… I guess the downside of living in a beautiful, scenic country is that it can attract TOO MANY tourists(!), and that not all of them respect the nature, laws, and customs of the countries they visit… Mange takk!
I get a lot of request on different subjects regarding the 10 tips video, and since it was one of my first videos it was hard to include everything in a short package. Wildcamping like some other topics requires a stand alone video with the correct focus because it is so important. I will continue to make more guides like this on how you should treat our campsites, spots etc. But it takes some time to plan and capture all the footage I need. But there will be more 😉
It is a huge win for the Nordic countries to allow everyone to go outdoors to the nature and explore it like if there was not a owner! This don't happen in Brazil because the owner of the property can do everything he wants and the security of the nature here, also don't really help us.

Great video Thomas and Paal! I'd like to add a comment about noise. As TETers, we should make sure to use as little noise as possible. The right to roam implies a responsability to not disturb the other people using the land, like hikers and camping car tourists, landowners, etc. Use the OEM exhaust pipe! Don't open your mufflers! Noise is not cool on the Norwegian TET!

Great video and topic Tjommi! The rules with opportunities and responsibilities seems to be identical in Norway, Finland and Sweden. The right to roam or Allemansrätten is something that we need to care about. Not to take for something given that can't be changed. Over here the discussion is ongoing for a revision to the Allemansrätten. Something to think twice about. As adventure motorcyclists we need to pay attention to our footprint as well... Yeah, the last years heavy tourism has taken it's toll on some of the most famous "instagram" spots, so they have had to regulate the free of roam in the area. Like Lofoten and Stadtlandet. You should do something similar about Sweden. Even if it is pretty much the same, I think the viewers appreciate to hear it from your perspective as well 🔥👏🏻
@@tshansen it has definately gone crazy in some areas, while other areas has alot of room for us all. We have a resposibility to Leave No Trace, preferably leave the place in better shape than you found it as well and not occupie places more than 1-2 nights. At some places i've been this summer i see visotors that does not really seem to understand this. You are right, we are many that could contribute to this subject. I see more problem in the RV context than biker context for now.
@@Braapncamp Yeah, so many want to take the perfect instagram picture or update social media with those shot's that everyone else takes. It does not sound so bad, but when you see 20 to 30 tents on the same spot every night for two months. It leave a mark. I don't see this as a problem at all in the motorcycle community yet, we camp small and want to get out on the road again fast. I bet you see alot of this in the RV.. I have seen minor things, but people are polite when you make notice of it and tell them to think twice.
@@tshansen what we see is that the National Parks or vast forest areas is cramped with wildcampers from all over Europe. Every spot is occupied with RV's, those vanlifers 👀😅, rooftenters, tents and those damn hammockers 👀😅.... all compete to stay att available wildcamp spots. Some tend to stay alot longer than whats expected by our rules. I can imagine that some of the videos we produce ourselfs is a part of this. We show the good life we have in low season wild camping and lure others into it that often do not have this oportunities at all at home. 😅 again what we can do is what you just did. Work for an informative and sustainable way so that all could enjoy our wonderful nature. Both locals and visitors should feel great about this.
@@Braapncamp Yeah, we are probably some how a little bit to blame for people who want to visit, and therefor extra responsible for education on the subject. I hope we can share this with a positive thing and educate people on the rules. Because I think alot of people want to follow the rules, they just don't know about them.

That is correct, we put our trust in people when it comes to this stuff. So far it goes quite well (in most cases) You are welcome any time. But make sure to bring extra memory cards and mosquito oil if you going up north ☺️

Leave no trace is a great standard but unfortunately I still come across people who leave trash behind. That is why I always carry extra trash bags with me just in case.

Nice idea with the collaboration :) Very informative video. A small add-on to the "allemannsretten" could be that "den norske turistforening" provides maps of trails and a rating system on how accessible they are. These trails often starts close to roads and in many cases rasteplasser.

Not a issue at all in most parts of norway. You have some parts where there is some wolf and bears, but they are quite shy and does not pose a treat towards people.

I seem to have missed this video. Very nicely produced and presented. Wild camping in Norway was indeed what I wanted to know and did ask you a while back. Looks fantastic. Didn't know about the rest areas and being able to stay there. Very useful. How about national parks or areas of outstanding beauty? I seem to remember in one of your videos I think you had to pay a toll to cross a pass or ride along a particular road? Would you not be able to wild camp along and off say this type of route? Do the tourist areas have more restrictions on where you can camp given they are more popular? And if you are near a town do you have to use the designated campsites or can you find a quiet place and just stick your tent up if it's more than 150m from a building? Also how much typically do campsites cost for a pitch for a small tent and motorcycle? Is electricity and shower included in the price?
Thank you Alex, glad you found it informative, and glad you ask these questions. There is some minor regulations because of heavy tourism in Reine (Lofoten) and Hoddevika where it's not allowed to free camp in the summer months. but Normal rules are that you can wild camp in all our national parks etc. As long as you stick to the free to roam rules. Some roads in the mountains and gravel roads are toll roads, but that does not mean you can't camp there. You can camp in a roundabout if you like (but I don't recommend that) 🤣 in the citys you can find a remote place and pitch your tent, you don't need to stay at a camp sites. Or you can find a rest place. Some beautiful spots have signs of No camping, but that is most likely a crazy neighbour who have put up because he want the place for him self. If the area are regulated as no camping, it is marked with proper sign and info about where yo get more information. To pitch a tent is about 20 euros. give or take. Some places there is a shower included, other places you need to pay 10,- KR. I never pick electricity, so I don't know if that is included or not, or even what the extra cost is. @@tshansen Yes Thomas a very full answer, thank you. Now for me I must decide how to best reach Norway from the UK with motorcycle. I think the ferry that used to run from Newcastle to Norway stopped a few years ago which is such a shame which means we Brits have to ride the whole way from Belgium to Norway and then in Norway itself, then back again!!! It would have to be a tour of several months to make it worthwhile and will need a fair bit of planning. I am thinking of getting an 890Adv R, the 790 Adv R is no longer available. I already rode the 890 Adv S version in June this year and liked it a lot. Either way it is a very long ride but Norway is sooo beautiful and totally worth it. Thanks again Thomas.
@@alexmorgan3435 hey, you might already have been to norway by now, or not.. buttt i wanted to let you know that: Since april 2022 here in the Netherlands, we have a ferry going from the north of netherlands (groningen) to Norway(kristiansand- hopefully spelled right) and back obviously. So it will make it much more easier for you(and me lol) to travel there!

We don’t have to many of them in Norway (sorry to say) We have some, but they are sometimes far away from the roads. Mostly used by hikers. There are also some cabins owned by the Norwegian tourist association but those are not free?

Well, the tiny mosquitos are active and really annoying from beginning of June to middle of august. Also some of the best summer months to enjoy the midnight sun etc. So you can't have it all (they say 🤣) Glad you found the video useful mate. Cheers 🍻

Its not a rule,but pit stops ment for trailers,no one else should stop ,if they have vehicle or camping etc.
Semi trailers dont have a lot of options, and they HAVE to stop.
Its not ok if those fills up with campers.
Semi traimers are fighting to get the most important one's with signs dedicatrd to semi's.
I mean, a motorbike isnt a issue for a semi trailer, but a vehicle IS.

First of all, thank you for the nice informative video's. and compliments for the editing with the nice end result! 2nd i have a question, i heard (one time only so far) from someone else who got a Heavy fine in Norway because he pitched his tent max 100m from the main road, with the motorbike. this was on a 2 track trail that looked like could be used by car too. In the morning while packing up the an offical came up to him to inform him that he was not allowed to drive on this track. even tough it was 100m. and later he recieved the fine. So the question is with this in mind, when you go wild camping with the motorbike (or at a rasteplass) do you have to park the bike at the main road/track ?? ( or can you confirm that the incident i heard is just an rare case for whatever reason we dont know) thank you in advance
Thank you Dino 🤩 Glad you found it informative. Well, this is so rare and unlikely I do believe it is a made up story, or not everything was told correctly in this story. Some trails are only for people or bicycle, if you ride the motorcycle here, you can get a fine. But people will most likely tell you to bugger off way before the law will find you. I always park my bike next to my tent or hammock when I wild camp. On rasteplass I ride my bike up on the gras or next to it. No one will say anything about this. But use common sense. Show respect and get respect. If you are a wise guy, you will be treated like that. Cheers 😉

I always ride my bike close up to my tent or hammock when using the rest places. I would say use common sense and if there are other people there. Ask if they think it's ok. @@haraldkramer8801 Most people do respect the small rules we got and I think that's why we can continue to have such a great thing here in Norway. You will always find those who just don't care, but that is far between. Mid October is a great time... the colours in the mountain is so beautiful then, but keep in mind, you can encounter heavy rain 😆

You are welcome sir. I'm not sure if they have altered the rules for using them, but you can find info about them at DNT here in Norway. And you have an app and webpage called UT.no here you can find hiking routes and the many cabins. Some are more popular than others. If you join DNT, you can buy a key for 100,- nok or something like that.

Hello Maraccini 👏🏻 Glad you found it helpful... As long as it looks like a road, not a hiking trail you can ride the bike down to the water. It is really hard for me to give a exact definition of what is allowed and what is not, but use common sense. If you ride completely offroad, it's not allowed. Most lakes, rivers etc has good gravel roads down to the shore in one place or another... your will clearly see where you can ride and where you should not ride 👍🏻

When you are traveling by motorhome, and you have a garbage bin in the motohome that is full, can you leave it at a restplace? Or is that only for the few things you consume at the restplace?
Yes, on most rest places (bigger ones) there is extra big garbage bins you can trow your garbage at. Some places there is none, or just a small bucket, I encourage you to use common sense in this matter 👏🏻 Cheers

Rest places has changed on that map. Now click Map Content (Kartinnhold if not using a translate addon), then select Rest areas/Rasteplasser. Cheers for that tip!

@@tshansen If you are updating, perhaps you can cover something I am still not sure of; if there is a provided fire pit at a rest area can it be used during summer at all? You might mention rest areas now only show on that map at zoom 8 and higher, which is a little awkward as it requires a lot of panning, and maybe should be pointed out to the website. Oooh... well, this is one question it is hard to answer. The law is one thing, but the definition of what a road is, and what looks like a road is sometimes not easy to put apart. So you will find a lot of gravel roads that people ride on, but by definition is not allowed to ride. When it comes to trails it is forbidden. same as truly offroad riding. If it looks like a path where hikers go, don't ride there. You know what... this is such a huge topic... I may just make a video about it. Thank you you for this question 👏🏻

A great video that speaks to the points I wish were included in you “Ten tips for riding in Norway” video! I would like to think that motorcyclists and hikers are already more alert to these issues- particularly NOT LITTERING! It is very sad to see a beautiful site defiled with plastic bags & packaging, and other debris… Ten or twenty years ago, this was almost never seen in Norway. Also, please be aware when camping on other’s land that while a wood fire is hyggelig (cozy?) and nice to cook with, you should do your best to limit the impact on the site from a campfire, and return things to how they were before you arrived- perhaps using a camping stove instead. At public sites, there are usually rules posted, or you can ask people… I worry that a few bad/lazy/uninformed visitors (bobil!) could ruin the right to camp on private land and if there are enough complaints and issues it could warrant revising the laws on free access… I guess the downside of living in a beautiful, scenic country is that it can attract TOO MANY tourists(!), and that not all of them respect the nature, laws, and customs of the countries they visit… Mange takk!
I get a lot of request on different subjects regarding the 10 tips video, and since it was one of my first videos it was hard to include everything in a short package. Wildcamping like some other topics requires a stand alone video with the correct focus because it is so important. I will continue to make more guides like this on how you should treat our campsites, spots etc. But it takes some time to plan and capture all the footage I need. But there will be more 😉
It is a huge win for the Nordic countries to allow everyone to go outdoors to the nature and explore it like if there was not a owner! This don't happen in Brazil because the owner of the property can do everything he wants and the security of the nature here, also don't really help us.
