This video, though a cherished memory of my vacation, serves as a poignant memorial to a unique experience of Maui that will never be replicated. The island, usually bustling with tourists and locals alike, now carries a heavy weight of devastation in the aftermath of the wildfires that ravaged Lahaina just a few days ago.
As we arrived, the signs of destruction were immediately apparent. The once-vibrant city of Lahaina, with its rich history and bustling streets, now lays in ruins, consumed by flames that tore through with frightening speed on August 8-11, 2023. It's a sobering reminder of the power of nature and the fragility of human structures in the face of such forces.
Our planned destination, Kaanapali, proved inaccessible as the hotels and attractions remained closed, still grappling with the aftermath of the disaster. Instead, we stayed in Kihei, and explored the southern coast! #mauistrong #lahainastrong #hawaiistrong

It’s a shame that you would play footage of Lahaina when it’s clearly been asked thousands of times not to videotape or take pictures of the burn areas out a respect for our culture in our beliefs not to mention upbeat music when we’ve had devastation and sadness and loss of lives and Pets and homes we loved we live in Maui and it saddens us to see people not listening to our wishes and respect our Aina 😢😡😢🌴🌈🤙🏽🙏🏽🌊
