It was cruel of them to turn the camera on him them ... but the shots Fognini played ... he may not be the most consistent player, but when he's playing well, he's the best to watch. We've been saying that for 10 years, and it never happened, maybe when the big 3 reach their 50s? Well okay, Nadal is beatable on hard court now, I'll give them that, but Novak is the real challenge, out of clay, and Federer- when he comes back, don't see it happening.

    • @RandomRawrrr
      @RandomRawrrr 3 года назад +2

      @@pauljohnson6019 when the atp first started to market the “next-gen” concept, all these up-and-comers were very much in their infancies. I didn’t get on board until probably last year, when the young guns started truly making their mark. Everything has changed now - half of the Top 10 are under 24; you have Medvedev and Zverev now making finals of Grand Slams and only going to get better; and the only 3 guys who can stop them are desperately fighting Father Time. Federer is coming back from a year-long injury and is out of the Aussie Open. Nadal might be out as well because of injuries, a recurring plague in his career. The only man to stop the young guns (outside of Nadal on clay) is Djokovic at the moment. And he’s having to go the distance often against them. I think Novak will be last to retire out of the Big 3 but there’s no way he can defend all the hard court titles against these young guys by himself.

    When Zverev is confident and hitting aggressively, he has the best game on tour. It's too bad too many times he starts to hit so passively after he is up and about to win. Happened again during the second set. So much talent but the mental part probably needs the most amount of work at this point.

    Deserving finalists. Both teams were red hot all week. Berrettini in particular has been flawless in his singles campaign so far. Fognini has found some form after a slow start and ended up getting his first career win over one of his bad matchups in Carreno Busta at the most crucial stage of the tournament which proved contributively decisive. For Russia, sensational all week and held off a spirited resurgent Germany team who redeemed themselves from last year's horror run. This is going to be an interesting final between two new nations of finalists. The singles rubbers may be an open affair between at least 3 of the 4 players there, given the previous head to head records and matchups, so I think it's going to be anyone's game for the title this year. It'd be incredible (for neutral, but interested observers anyway) to see this go down to the wire in doubles with a tight three setter.
