      He did undergo a thorough knee surgery around this time last year (maybe more recently, still in 2020), and he certainly enjoyed being with his wife and child in quarantine. He said so himself on multiple occasions. He has more to play for but a lesser need to prove himself after his '19 Monte Carlo title. He may never reach these heights again but he proved what tennis fans hoped - that he could indeed do it.

    Fabio was POSSESSED on this day. From 1-3 down he wins 10 of the next 11 games, then has 40-0 to BAGEL Rafa, but in true Rafa style, he fought to the end, got 2 games on the board but Fabio closed him out 6-2. Cant recall a time Nadal was dominated like this on clay apart from sets 2 and 3 at FO 2015 vs Novak. (Maybe Thiem Rome 2017 but that felt much closer even though Nadal only won 1 more game than he did here vs Fabio)

    • @james-vx7nv
      @james-vx7nv Год назад

      @Tano27 Ya so more of a shocker for Nadal to be dominated like this on clay. It wasnt 2015, and Nadal went on to win Rome (beating Djokovic in the final...Novak who had just won Madrid the week before) and Nadal then won FO.
      So in the context of his 2019 season it was a real shock to see Nadal dominated like that.
      And yes Nadal was not himself in 2015 despite some flashes of brilliance here and there, and the 1st set vs Novak at FO was very competitive. But what followed was sad. Never made it to a slam semi, and the only QF was at FO and there lost to Novak in straight sets.

    Sometimes I don’t get nadals choice in terms of ball striking. If you see any of his training videos he can absolutely crush the ball and in matches like these when he is getting out hit I don’t get why he chooses to revert back to not missing but hitting a short, middle of the court loopy forehand each time. I think now that he is older he needs to flatten out the forehand more consistently to have continued success on every surface. Hope he gets into good form so he can win another french this year. Maybe it’s a confidence thing and he’s just most comfortable doing that but still I think he needs to tweak that part now in his game.

    I just realized Fabio won 10 games in a row to go from 1-4 to 6-4 5-0. Literally was up 40-0 too in that last game. Wow

      No he didn't, they were 3-1 for Nadal, then a break for Fabio and they reached 4 all, he won 7 games in a row

    I rember seeing this live 3-1 Down to Nadal I thought that’s it … then I changed channels then I start watching live news and I saw the score on the sliders 3-4 up to Fogna I put the game on and the commentator was saying I never saw Nadal struggling like that …. He bullied him that day

    Si Fabio, con el enorme talento natural que tiene, tuviera un poco mas de disciplina sería muy dificil de vencer y estaría en el top 5 sin dudas

    Fognini, incubo di Nadal. Fognini ha solo un grande avversario: la sua testa! È il giocatore più talentuoso, senza dubbio!
