I saw this live and thought, "at some point it's gotta stop, right?"
And he never stopped, it was one of the more relentless performances I've ever seen in a best of 3 set match.
it stopped when he was serving for the match at 5-0 ,probably nerves
@@MarioGomez-kj5bc he coulda been the first bagel over nadal on clay… only him and Novak have had set points to do it
@@MarioGomez-kj5bc he was injured.
Fabio Fognini is like Dustin Brown he goes insane for 10 hrs a year
Against nadol
No true. Brown plays good only sometimes. Fognini showed he can beat top 10. But now it's difficult for him
@@dariotrentini6114 Lol Brown also beat Nadal twice
@@lassem1125 Yeah but on grass. Fognini did it on clay in a semifinal
@@AnCapone1899 I think the thing is people discredit brown thinking he beat him once but he actually did it before as well and quite easily
Fognini on fire is more interesting than most other players
Stan and tsonga are also untouchable when they are on fire
@@vijayendranvijay4538 tsonga hasnt been on fire in 10 years
Fognini has the most effortless yet super explosive backhand!
Spring 2019 was surely fognini's peak, one of the few times he could keep a solid mentality in addition to his immense talent. Hopefully he can do the same this or the next year considering be only has few years left at high level. Forza Fogna 🇮🇹🇮🇹
*addition
Adiction lol
Probably not. Nadal destroyed him in straights at this years Australian Open. Nonetheless, a very nice display by Fognini here.
He did undergo a thorough knee surgery around this time last year (maybe more recently, still in 2020), and he certainly enjoyed being with his wife and child in quarantine. He said so himself on multiple occasions. He has more to play for but a lesser need to prove himself after his '19 Monte Carlo title. He may never reach these heights again but he proved what tennis fans hoped - that he could indeed do it.
This is what Fabio is capable of. Pure talent. If he had enough consistency he could have stayed in top 5 for a long time.
The way fognini hits the backhand is unique and comfort to watch ❤️❤️
like djokovic did in 2011 for sometimes
Fabio Fognini can be an absolute joy to watch! This was an excellent match he played against Rafa! 🔥
I’d say when he played Nadal in the US Open in 2015...that was his best performance ever. This is a close second.
Agree!
Nadal in 2015 had been beaten by almost every top 20 player. Berdych beating him for the only time in their last 18 confrontations with a 3-0 at AO, losing to Brown, not reaching a semi in GC, being teared apart by Djoko at RG…
I remember watching this and being like ''Come on, Fabio can't keep hitting winners every point, can he?" Turned out he could!
Absolute masterclass by Fognini, went on to win his first Masters 1000, superb tennis
Who else can’t wait for this years Monte-Carlo 2021?
rafa come back loading...
Me
@@jeansioufi9046 Djokovic will win
@@filipsostaric309 after Nadal probably bagels him, won't he? 🤫
I’m going and can’t wait it’s my fourth year going
I just love how much Fognini is talented
Fognini è un fantastico giocatore! Ha un gesto atletico così naturale, potente e fluido, che rende apparentemente semplici anche i punti più difficili..se soltanto riuscisse a rimanere più concentrato...
Everyone Backhand: Down with knees, shoulder turn, back balance
Fognini Backhand: 🏌🏻
When the "Genius" in Fabio is on , there is no madness that can stop him. I simply love his way to play♥🎾
fognini vs every player: can't hold a racket
fognini vs nadal : aight time to transform.
Djokovic gamestyle is easy for Wawrinka and nadal gamestyle is easy for Fognini
@@Laland_1196 not really true, fognini just doesn't try against other players, but nadal motivates him to compete
@@joehoward7426 Not true. Not because he doesn’t want to try, the main reason is that the main draw is always tough for him in every tournament so he usually loses in the early round.
@@joehoward7426 maybe I don't know ..but Fognini once said to press that Nadal gamestyle is easy for him
@@Laland_1196 possible, Fognini hates low balls
"That's the real weapon - the forehand"
Compared to the other hidden weapons, like his forehand
Nadal: "and then in the locker room, were ok, everything is ok"
Beating Nadal so comprehensively on clay is a huge deal! Well done Fabio Fognini! An Absolute Masterclass !
6:36 That Forehand!
Uno dei 5 tennisti più talentuosi al mondo fognini
Fabio you were the most talented tennis player ever, but unfortunately, more than sometimes, ..., you missed continuity. In anycase, a pure talent, without adding other words. Phenomenal!!
😢😢mancava il servizio. Per il resto inmenso
man i love fognini gameplay when he is on his zone
Except that happens once in 2 years😅
Don Fabio is the goat of entertainment
I've watched tennis for 20+ years...I _still_ can't decide if Fognini has incredible footwork or horrific footwork. 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
good footwork but uses low energy
He has unique foot work
he had chance to bagel nadal on clay man it is insane
Their match at the US Open was epic...Fognini won
Fognini is a beautiful player.
Fognini is like Nalbandian. If he is willing to put the effort, he wins against the toughest opponents. Other times things just fall apart for him.
Quando riesci a trasformare Nadal in uno "sparring partner" sulla terra rossa allora avresti diritto a chiederti quanti Slam avresti potuto vincere con un approccio mentale diverso.....
Fabio Fabio.... Immenso talento e croce e delizia di chi conosce e gioca questo sport...
One of the best performance of Fabio Fognini.
Only if Fabio played like this all the time instead of just showing us glimpses from time to time..I think we all know how good he is and how much more he could have done earlier in his career..one of the biggest what ifs in tennis history I would say.
thats call consistency and that is the differnce between very good players and legends like the big 3
One of best .. daje Fognini 🧡❤️
If he actually got that winner when he was 5-0 40-0 up i would consider this as the perfect match. He eventually got it done but if he had finished it there then that would be the perfect icing on the cake. Bare in mind too that this was a windy day so it was not easy to adjust.
One of my most favourite matches
The different approach to the backhand is what amazes me the most: nadal almost jumps on it, fabio just walks up to it and smacks it
the timing is insanely tight and flat
I love watching Fognini beat Nadal.
Unbelievable performance. Fognini consistently plays well against Nadal and loves to take him on.
One of the best games that i ever seen
Fognini has unique demeanor, unlike any other players
Un génie contre un bourrin. Cette façon qu'a Fognini de jouer en marchant... un pur régal!
Sick talent
That was Monte Carlo final. Watched it live, feels like yesterday. Great match, Fognini backhand was on fire.
Semi-final
@@ashyles0110 Considering tennis quality? Definitely final.
Remember watching this super Fabio he sure knows how to beat Nadal. Brings his game not many beat him multiple times on clay.
Nadal knows how to beat him too as it's 12-4 I think 🤣
@@tennisradu
No shit Sherlock 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
Mean honestly how has beat Nadal multiple times on clay and even come back from 2 sets down in a major to beat him.
Other the obvious but with that jump in reply guess would itching to tell me lol
@@lmilne4859 That's simple, "Sherlock". In 2015, almost any top 20 player could have beaten Nadal as he was very low mentally. Again, 3 of the 4 Fabio's wins over him came in 2015, plus this one where Nadal literally played like shit. I advise you to watch the AO match this year to see what happens when Nadal really plays well. 😆
@@tennisradu bro , this match was probably one of the best performances EVER by fognini. Doesnt matter how well nadal could have played , fognini was just on another level in this tournament. I mean nadal did this about a 100 times in his career but this day fognini was too good
@@lukash6274 Yeah, that's why Fognini had more unforced than winners, that's why Nadal was leading until 4-4 in the first, because he "didn't stand a chance" against Fognini 🤣
Fognini fuori clase. Bravissimo!
Two great gentlemen, love them
Fognini is nadal’s kryptonite
13-4 sounds like kryptonite to you ?
@@jeansioufi9046 haha yuh
Not really. Besides this win, the only times Fognini won were in Nadals worst year. Watch the straight set demolition at the Australian Open this year to see what I mean.
US open 2015 👀
I like to watch him very much, it’s a shame he is so inconsistent
FF ... PURE TALENT !!
They played on a unique surface: mud. But Fognini's level was insanely good
Wow, Fognini BH was on fire!
With more effort Fognini would easily be inside the top 10
With more effort it would not be easily
@@ramseshendriks2445 lmao true.
@@ramseshendriks2445 Lol that was epic man
it had been a top10
Fabio was POSSESSED on this day. From 1-3 down he wins 10 of the next 11 games, then has 40-0 to BAGEL Rafa, but in true Rafa style, he fought to the end, got 2 games on the board but Fabio closed him out 6-2. Cant recall a time Nadal was dominated like this on clay apart from sets 2 and 3 at FO 2015 vs Novak. (Maybe Thiem Rome 2017 but that felt much closer even though Nadal only won 1 more game than he did here vs Fabio)
@Tano27 Ya so more of a shocker for Nadal to be dominated like this on clay. It wasnt 2015, and Nadal went on to win Rome (beating Djokovic in the final...Novak who had just won Madrid the week before) and Nadal then won FO.
So in the context of his 2019 season it was a real shock to see Nadal dominated like that.
And yes Nadal was not himself in 2015 despite some flashes of brilliance here and there, and the 1st set vs Novak at FO was very competitive. But what followed was sad. Never made it to a slam semi, and the only QF was at FO and there lost to Novak in straight sets.
I was watching it live.
Me too
Sanaol
Fognini: "need a sparring partner, bring me Nadal".
C'est qui ton joueur favori??
Moi:Fabio fognini!!
Fognini???pk?
Moi: parce qu'il est capable du pire et du meilleur.... mais quand il est à son meilleur, c'est un véritable démon,si plaisant à regarder jouer!
Come on Fabio!❤️
His blue polo look gave him the advantage . That polo looks nice though 👌

Love Fognini's footwork. LOL ;D
fabulous fabio..
Congratulations 🎉 to Fabio
Nadal said after the match: probably my worst match on clay in 15 years (since 2004). I totally agree, some matches in 2015 and this one were horrific
He should give some credit to Foggy though. He probably did. 😊🍀
Nadal's a salty loser! And what when his opponents weren't playing at their best, or choked- never mentioned that, did he, it's easier to give praise, when you're on the winning side, not so easy, to give it, when you're losing on your favourite surface.
Excuses as always
Hahaha. Nadal never accepted that someone else was better than him.
Unbelievable
So talented. Effortless at times.
Not going to lie I wanted Nadal to win but great match congratulations on this old win Fognini
This is so good!
Beating Nadal on clay is not easy. Well played
Fognini uses his backhand like a lighsaber
I watched this live.... and I have never seen someone humiliate nadal like this apart from djoko
On clay.
Rivoglio quel Fabio
Uno dei campione Italiani e non solo di maggior talento.
Se era in giornata buona avrebbe battuto chiunque giocatore
Fabio was unconscious this whole tournament.
More like the opposite
Yeah, supposedly the same stuff Karatsev was on...
The day a Clay God was made to look like a mere mortal!
Everyone after the 4th game: yeah, it will be the expected ,obvious 6:2 6:2 for nadal.
Fognini: hold my beer
so weird watching pre-2020 videos and seeing pre-covid things, like shaking hands, putting towel in your mouth etc.
Sometimes I don’t get nadals choice in terms of ball striking. If you see any of his training videos he can absolutely crush the ball and in matches like these when he is getting out hit I don’t get why he chooses to revert back to not missing but hitting a short, middle of the court loopy forehand each time. I think now that he is older he needs to flatten out the forehand more consistently to have continued success on every surface. Hope he gets into good form so he can win another french this year. Maybe it’s a confidence thing and he’s just most comfortable doing that but still I think he needs to tweak that part now in his game.
He said after the match this was one of the worst matches he's played, so perhaps his decision making was a factor.
Fognini looks a bit like Federer when he's in the zone. Just beautiful ball striking
I've realized that they have lots of similarities. Apparently Fognini is a big Federer fan too so that could explainz
So Charismatic
fabio fognini era fatto per vincere tanti grand slam,
dispiace un talento e un stile fiori norma
I had €50 om Fabio @5.3 thinking those where ridiculously incorrect odds, giving their history and both their forms at that moment. Still recall my hands getting a bit sweaty when Rafa got back from 0-5 0-40 to 2-5… 😅 When Fabio is on he’s virtually impossible to beat. Which is very rarely though.
typical Fognini, one week earlier he lost to Jiri Vesely in straights
Look at fognini’s father reaction 9:06
Fabio 👍❤
The day rafa was almost bagelled
dude he was so close to getting the bagel don't know how he messed it up sad.
FABIO!!!
Fabio fognini is the most talent player ever after roger
Wath a horsekick backhand!
I just realized Fabio won 10 games in a row to go from 1-4 to 6-4 5-0. Literally was up 40-0 too in that last game. Wow
No he didn't, they were 3-1 for Nadal, then a break for Fabio and they reached 4 all, he won 7 games in a row
@@ashyles0110 My bad. 7 games in a row against Rafa is still incredible
I rember seeing this live 3-1 Down to Nadal I thought that’s it … then I changed channels then I start watching live news and I saw the score on the sliders 3-4 up to Fogna I put the game on and the commentator was saying I never saw Nadal struggling like that …. He bullied him that day
How does fogini generate so much power with such horrible foot work...?
❤️🔥Portugal ❤️🔥
Si Fabio, con el enorme talento natural que tiene, tuviera un poco mas de disciplina sería muy dificil de vencer y estaría en el top 5 sin dudas
Real god mode
God mode vs normal clay God!
WE NEED NATIVE 60FPS !!! This is NOT 60fps my friends. It's just 60 fps on the youtube player
Fognini, incubo di Nadal. Fognini ha solo un grande avversario: la sua testa! È il giocatore più talentuoso, senza dubbio!
Absolutely destroyed the bald moonballer.
Take a bow GOATnini
The first game alone took 12 minutes.
Also, woman at 5:49 does not look pleased Fognini took the first set.
grande fognini!!!!!!!!
Like a God
Great for Fabio, he played fantastic here, congratulations.
But look, not too bad for Rafa either, he wins French and USO that year.😆😆😆
