- TL;DR nothing happens. I try deleting the others and nothing happens either. but when monika is already deleted the scene where she sits and talks to you immediately skips to the "why did you do this" stuff. basically nothing interesting.

Basically in case anyone's wondering; Renpy, the way this game is made, doesn't really have "character files". The character files in the games files are mostly triggers or clues, although not necessary for the games code. That's why when you delete certain characters nothing happens, because the game doesn't have any script connected to that certain file being deleted.

Exactly, also game doesn't check for those files all the time, but just in some cases/ scenarios. Game is made to look real / work like virus / advanced AI but people forget that it's still a game. Also even if game would check for those files all the time, and you would delete them, devs woupd have to make alternative endings and plots, otherwise game would just glitch out.
Also files we delete are not actual models or characters, they are just making a function of a trigger.
Although if you delete them before a run, well, you finish the game... A bit early

What is the audio? No one ever stays there long enough so I don't know what it is.
Just so you know, when you delete a character file in the middle of the story, it usually won't do anything. The reason for that is that the character files are actually just stories that are encrypted in base 64, they contain no code that control each character
This is what's bad about the game.
It lacks secret things like this, it's so linear.
I remember undertale being so clever and basically guessing almost everything you could possibly think of doing.

I don’t know if anyone will read this but explanation:
Act I is your only chance to delete characters, Monika and Sayori because they’re essential to the plot. Any other Doki (Natsuki and Yuri) will just be added back into the game.
In Act II, you can’t do anything because the game is already moving you along to the good/neutral ending. The game doesn’t really care about checking files anymore because it’s waiting for Act III (Just Monika). Though, if you delete Monika before going onto Act III after her first bit of dialogue after a couple seconds the game will see that she doesn’t actually exist and just move onto the deleting phase.

actually, the game works by scanning the folder. so it would have worked if you renamed the file or even had taken it out of the folder.

Hey I'm about 3 years late but I was thinking maybe you didn't do it the right way...after clicking on the poem she will just stare in a standing straight position with no dialogue or any bar and you have to click again for her to snap out of it...you deleted yuri after she had snapped out of it so maybe try again but make sure you delete her exactly after the poem disappeared.

You deleted them but you didn't refresh the folder. You have to refresh to see if any program changed any files/folders
The game only does checks for the files at certain points and Natsuki/Yuri never matter in those checks.
What I believe is that the .chr files are just there for information. Check out The Game Theorists 2nd video about Doki Doki and everything will make sense. Maybe, since you deleted the game files, and nothing happened, there is another file holding all of the information for the game, and not the characters.

They can make an end for everyy point in the game if you delete characters, that would be impossible. Whats happening is the game isn't doing a check for .chr files at the moment.
It actually did do something but it's very slight. Her eyes are normally a dark purple but after you deleted her eyes became a really light purple almost grey color. Same for Natsuki

If you delete Monica before starting a new game then the first dialogue will be different and one of the girls (the one that first talks to you) will hang her self and if you do the same but deleat everyone then she will do the same but if you wate 10 min then dialog will appear saying ‘’now everyone can be happy’’
You need to Save, Delete Yuri Quit, and Join back in, the script will stay as normal if you continue
The explanation behind this is a bit simple, those .CHR files do not actually exist they are like place holders and when the action is needed they are acting like they are useful. it’s kind of like a switch that is waiting

It's because Monika's character file is the only one that actually matters the other ones don't actually matter
the game only work because of Monika.chr file...even if u delete the rest of the file(except Monika)..notice that Monika's file the is largest file...
It didn't work because there's command in the game that tells it to do anything different when you delete Yuri.chr. The game actually doesn't recognize the .chr files. It just preforms a different command when you edit those files sometimes.

The "Delete Her" is Monika talking about herself. She's (i don't know if Monika herself or just a game characteristic) saying thats was going to happen in the end. At that point in history ur already going for the normal ending, so there's just that option. Everyone gets deleted. Other poem Monika wrote was the "Save me/Load me" that was really early in the game and explaining how to get the good ending, where you have to save the game very earlier and play all the poem games according to one specific character in order to get all the special images and do it to all 3 (sayori, yuri, natsuki), and for that, you have to load the game you've saved before sayori kills herself.
Yeah, those aren’t the actual character files. The system just checks to see if the files are there at certain points in the story, and acts accordingly. The game would be a hell to program if it had to modify it’s own code often.
If they put that much detail into it, then we wouldn’t be looking at a free game.

yuri still worked because these files .chr are only for the player to play with them,actual yuri files are somewhere else, and you have to restart the game to get the yuri deleted

Just think if every time it did a scan through the files for difference when you click though text. (It also has to bring the right script up and since you never re loaded the game, it never could change scripts)

thing is, the only character file that truly has ANY effect at all is monika. you can delete all three girls next to monika from the very second you start the entire game for the first time and nothing will happen.
