    Can you do a video on re-sealing the burn pit/ box on a Yoder? I noticed some of my sealant has burnt due to a pellet fire outside of the fire box and I'm curious if I need to do a reseal....From what Ive heard from Yoder, this is regular maintenance everyone should eventually do

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  2 года назад +2

      You should def check your seals during a clean. I currently don’t have any issues with mine that I can show in a video.
      It’s high temp black silicon I believe. Just need to do around the outside and where the bolts go through for the damper. Run a bead around it and then you could use your finger with a glove on or maybe a piece of wood cut into a triangle.
      I wouldn’t worry about it being perfect. Soon as I have to do it on mine, I’ll shoot a video.
      Thanks for watching!

    Hi another great video. Only thing in my YS640S manual it says to pull the damper out to the right like all the way.
    Wondering they likely changed the procedure? the 11 and 22 inchs is the same for probes.

    I really like Yoder providing this service. Also, do you recommend using an oven temp probe, in addition to the meat probes, during cooks?

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  2 года назад +2

      Honestly, I think people get too hung up on temps. Your oven swings 50+ degrees and you never know. Because a pellet grill has a digital gauge now, people often focus on it. You are going to get swings no matter way, manufacturers can make that gauge show you whatever they want. I say set the temp and monitor the meat by the temp probes and your eyes. When it's done it's done 🙃

      @@RumandCook works great when you want ribs in 5-6 hrs but the temps arent right and your ribs take 10hrs. Cause 265 really produces 190 ambient temps. I loved this yoder for years. My old controller was messing up so i had to upgrade now it doesnt work the same.

  • @pamoky5
    @pamoky5 2 года назад +1

    Great info Jake, just curious if there is anything that the damper has to do with the swings. I believe Yoder recommends 5” open for a “normal” cook and completely pushed in for searing. My 640s has some wild swings when I fire it up but I’ve noticed if I adjust the damper in and out it seems to calm down when it gets to a certain point. Any suggestions for that?

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  2 года назад +1

      Hey Mike, I leave my damper in the middle for 95% of the time.
      It takes a min of 20 minutes for your pit to stabilize. In addition Yoder works on a 4 minute average to adjust temp. If you keep playing with the damper or making any other changes within the first 20-30 mins you are confusing the controller.
      I have a video called temperature swings and 12 common mistakes pellet grill owners make. I think you would find them valuable.
      Thanks for watching!

    I see a 30 degree difference in the two probes in the described locations. I verified the probes are reading accurately by putting them in ice water. Is this difference standard on Yoders? I have moved the damper to different positions and it doesn't seem to make a difference

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  2 года назад

      If you contact Yoder Support they will advise you on tweaking the offset setting. This will help stabilize things.
      It’s never going to be perfect across the board because the heat is on one side. That being said, this is how an offset works so it’s not a huge deal. They might be able to help you tweak it.
      I don’t do a lot of in pit monitoring except for the food itself. The damper in general has a minimal effect. Only really helpful (in my opinion) when using high temps and searing. I leave mine in the center 95% of the time.

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  10 месяцев назад +1

      I’d clean your firebox and pellet tray. Then make sure your tray is sitting below the igniter. The igniter should go through the hole and sit on top of the tray. If it glows red, you should be fine. Otherwise reach out to Yoder Support. 🍻

    My pit temperature is way off. When I cranked up my grill my pit temperature on my screen said 39 degrees when smoke was coming out. Not to mention it was 60 degrees outside.

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  Год назад +1

      Well smoke will come out right in the beginning as the pellets just light. Make sure your pit probe is clean.
      You can run this test and ask Yoder support to review the results. They will help adjust. 🍻

    I'm a little confused. How does Yoder know how to calibrate from pics? Who does the calibrating? Do they tell you where to go & what to do?
    Thanks

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  2 года назад

      Yoder can see your cook in the Fireboard app. They can see the temperature it ran at during the 2 hours and will provide a tweak (if needed) in the controller settings after seeing the cook.

    • @chriscat9
      @chriscat9 2 года назад +1

      @@RumandCook So you share a link through the fireboard app then?

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  2 года назад +1

      You just have to tell them your email address (that you used to register the fireboard app) and time/date of the cook.

    • @brpnw4r94
      @brpnw4r94 2 года назад +2

      Chriscat9...good question but my question is... "How many users run a second test after Yoder "calibrates" the Fireboard App that's registered to your smoker to ensure it heats "evenly" and within specs"? 🤔

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  2 года назад +1

      Typically support will ask you to run this test if you are having any issues, but you can run it on your own to ensure proper function.

    Ciao jake, come ti ho detto ho finalmente acquistato ys640 un vero carro armato💪purtroppo oggi lo ho montato ma la candela di accensione non si scalda. Tu sai che potrebbe essere? C’è qualche procedura da fare come ad esempio diagnostica o calibrazione?

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  2 года назад +1

      Glad it arrived, sorry to hear about the ignitor. I would make sure the pellet plate sits low enough, sometimes it looks like it's down low enough, but the pellets can't actually touch it. I'd also check the fuse, there is a round fuse screw at the bottom of the hopper. This video shows you how to replace it, ruclips.net/video/2FZNTXJgjIY/видео.html You could try and pull it out to make sure it's plug is seated properly. Outside of that will have to send an email to yoder support. They may have to send a new one, but that would be rare. I think it's probably one of the first two. Hope this helps!
