    ABOUT JOHN COOGAN:
I am the co-founder of soylent.com and lucy.co, both of which were funded by Y Combinator (Summer 2012 and Winter 2018).
I've been an entrepreneur for the last decade across multiple companies. I've done a lot of work in Silicon Valley, so that's mostly what I talk about. I've raised over 10 rounds of venture capital totaling over $100m in funding.
I work mostly in tech-enabled consumer packaged goods, meaning I use software to make the best products possible and then deliver them to the widest possible audience. I'm a big fan of machine learning, python programming, and motion graphics.

That's really great to hear! It's a super broad video, but hopefully it creates a framework. Big investors really do think about these 6 steps when considering an investment. If you can convince them that you will be able to pass all 6 hurdles, they will probably back you!

The strategy I launched my businesses with is 1. business background, research, sales copy, business plan, testing. 2. Marketing, sales system creation. 3. final product creation, manufacturing. 4. profitability 5. Scaling up. 6. Long-term business plan for 10 years. 7. Innovation, new products ideas inventions.
!!! you should never create the product first because might no one will ever buy it. Before your product is done: Target audience research, sales copy, business plan, marketing plan. Then you will not go bankrupt because you have a product made with millions of dollars, then no buyers.
    Just my personal experience

    • @shuaibsalim6616

    • @benedekk.8381
      @benedekk.8381 2 года назад

Hey Shuilab Salim! Actually, thanks a lot for that Q. So Starting a Business is quite a ruisk, as this vodeo's title says it.
I get the research, sales copy done to see if people would actually be interested in buying the product. If not that is already a no go. But If the idea itself is actually a succes, many people said they would buy it. Then it is time to build a business plan, to make the business actually succesful, and because people already said the would buy, we can create a business plan and Get INVESTORS!

I gotta say I'm in level 4 of this game too, and tbh level 5 is really hard to crack... but we thrive.
To the folks getting started, let me say this: Timing is key and Patience is a competitive advantage.
And even though the life-changing chunk of money comes in often in level 5, when you do level 1, 2, 3 & 4 correctly, you've built solid ground and a money-making machine that enables you to survive long enough in the game to witness your competition come and go and the landscape change, 'till it's the right time for you to rise.
    Thanks again.

I have some critic regarding your cutting style and visual background, the first 5 - 6 videos I watched where great and refreshing, seeing all this shorts from movies really sparked interested and hype. But now after several videos more I must say that it starts distracting me from the real content and the video topics start to blur. I cant visually remember which video was which and therefore it is hard for me to recommend specific videos to others. Sure its the leanest and entertaining way with low cost, but if you keep growing I would love to see some restructuring or own visual content.

If he puts a million dollars into launching that chocolate bar, will he get $10M out? and more importantly, can he scale that investment? Is there a business where he could deploy $100M and get $1B out? That's the really hard part. Lots of businesses just top out.

@@JohnCooganPlus I think Jimmy ought to consider launching a Y Combinator-style program: pay 100 people to quit their jobs and become full-time creators. Not just a monetary investment, but also provide them all the know-how about thumbnails and making engaging videos. Could easily be a $1 billion business if scaled up.

Is generating profit the sole goal of a company? No social impact? No progress over innovation? Are these really just side effects?

What about a service-based company, such as an engineering firm. How would you provide greater innovation and break out of the competition?

What's type of engineering firm are we talking here.
For me, an Architect, we teamed up with other people in the value chain and created and integrated company focused on single typology that's incredibly on demand.

@@Libtardo123 Yeah sure I do relate and that's why we made the switch to become Real Estate and Property Developers and also slapping technology on it.
