Smart Home Solver You could add some at my house LOL I love LIFX I want to get some of the strips I have the lightbulbs I love the fact that you don’t need a bridge
Smart Home Solver I like the way you did it underneath the bathroom sink this other RUclips or that I watch he took the sink out and put an extra layer of this see-through silicone and he put the lights in there and the lights were shining through the sink it’s hard to explain but very cool
Nice setup! I'm getting started with my smart home setup and your videos have helped me a lot. I suggest you to avoid using any blueish lights at night, they might affect your sleep pattern, warm lights at night are much better not only for your sleep, but for your health
since I started watching your videos last week, I got a Nanoleaf Canvas, philips bulb + light strip + sensor + outlet, a Lifx strip and an amazon echo show. Everything I know so far is thanks to you! There are other guys out there doing the same thing but I found your channel to be the best in terms of information, entertainment, video quality and yes, humor!
Pound land ( UK) sell a 2 metre led strip with motion, dusk, dawn trigger, including cable for £5:00, $7.50. I've just fixed 2X under the kitchen cupboard units. They run off a std., 5V mains supply.
Came here looking for a easy recommendation on which light strip to get that is motion sensored and has no plug in chords. I don’t care about price I just need that. Application is important to me so that I can begin to use. Instead I left confused.
If you need some cheaper options and want stuff instantly. My local walmart has started to bring in more stuff. If you dont mine a remote the MONSTER brand kits I've bought work great. Those bulbs are twice as bright as the merkury brand wifi ones they have. I love the $9 white extension power cords. 10 feet I'm pretty sure. Add in a few smart outlets and you are set. They start up full bright white. So they are like 80% of a regular white led
Hey Reed thanks for all you do. Just one thing that I think I have not heard on you tube. For those that use the Hue system there is an option to bridge two motion sensors in cases like mine where you have two floors and want the light to come on when you go downstairs however the problem is that is the sensor does not detect motion you need to come back upstairs and wave at the sensor. The only way so far I found to eliminate this is to buy another hue motion sensor and pair them or bridge them, once they are bridged the light will go off only when both sensor dont detect any motion, obviously you want to turn the lights through a routine. It works pretty well. IF you have any other idea let us know. Thanks again
Any chance you can give a detailed video on how to link the Nexlux light strips with both Magic Home app and SmartThings hub. I intend on light my stairs with the SmartThings motion sensors and Nexlux strip and was unsure on which to link too first. Thanks
That's a good suggestion, maybe I can make a follow up video on that. I do show a little about how I power my kitchen light strips in this video: ruclips.net/video/7soFzqvIxQ4/видео.html
It started with a simple $5 RGB sale at Wal-Mart for tv backlights it still hasn't slowed yet $100's later. But now my 9yr old nephew stays with me I have my head and foot boards done. Full under bed kit plus lamps. We both love it. Night light for him so he isn't scared in a new place, I love them because they will dim and I can close my eyes to total black. I can't keep from turning on all the TV back light sets. Between That and my 3 security systems it's turned into a full blown problem. I've been thinking about motion sensors for when I'm to lazy to ask Google to do it all for me lol
It is all good with alll those lights, but how do u run the wire, like in the bathroom? How many power outlets do u need in your house? I am running out of them before I install any light
I really like the motion activated nexlux.. how exactly do you have that working? My home is mostly google assistant but I'm thinking of adding a smartthings hub. How does the motion trigger the nexlux since it's not compatible with smartthings? Can the smartthings hub initiate google assistant commands? Say it detects motion it can trigger "hey google turn on bed lights" etc? Or is this done through ifttt?
You should make a video with smartthings and Kasa Smart Switches... I spend like $200 and got my whole house Switches changed... I'm getting samsung motion sensors now for more home automation
I have the Aqara (Xiaomi) sensors, they trigger automations from Samsung SmartThings and turn on the Ikea lights on my kitchen, and the Phillips hue on the rest of my house
How do you power all these things in your home? Vanities and kitchen cabinets don’t usually have outlets up there, and I don’t see cords running along your walls.
I dont have cabinets with space under them or a bed. So puting motion sensors is a bit expensive (2 sites of bed), where to put them? Also how long does light stay on, because you will be back and want to sleep without lights.
Hi Reed, so I want to do the automation for the light strip under bed. I bought everything like you mentioned under Beedroom section here Bedroom. I got the Samsung Mutisensor, Smartthings Hub, NexLux strip light. Can you show me how do I you create the sense to trigger the light to turn on at night time when motion is detected? Are you suing Alexa routine to do that? Thanks for all you do. Love your channel from day 1.
Awesome video as always. My question is. Is there a way I can have the light strip in the master bedroom and a sounds activation in the nursery and when the baby cries is turns on the light strip?
How do you install a light strip when you have a 90° turn? You would have to cut the strip, so how would the pieces be joined? I want to do all my TV screens but the same problem exists with a right angle turn. I noticed you also used connectors in your kitchen cabinets , where do I get those connectors too? I enjoy your videos. Bill
Hi I think we would need from you a new episode for Smartthings camera integrations as Samsung Smartcam are withdrawn from Smartthings and need to know what's the best new alternative for the system. Thanks
Here is an off the wall question. I have a home bar, that is Hockey related. I want to be able to push a button (when my team scores) that makes the LED's behind my TV that are blue to flash RED a couple times then go back to a solid blue, While also triggering a cheer sound to play over my speakers in the ceiling. Problem is I don't know how to make either of these work even without a button. Any ideas? Currently I only run Google, no hubs so I don't know if this is even an option. Any thoughts?
Love all your lights! I have a question that I desperately need help with! So I ordered Govvee LED lights. My question is, after I hang them up in my room, if I want to cut a few strips to add behind my Tv or somewhere else, I know I need to use the litter connecter things to connect/attack them. But do I need to make sure they plug into the same cord as the other lights that I hung around the room? Or can I plug them in separately? PLEASE HELP!
hello, i want to use a smartthings motion sensor, with some light bulbs from ikea. 1 question. can i use my ikea smart bulbs with the smartthings motion sensor? 2 question. do i need to buy a smartthings hub for the motion sensor? thanks for muting the HE ALEXA, didn't turn on my hk allure. greetings from the netherlands,
SmartThings hub would be a great option to connect to things from different brands, such as SmartThings motion sensors with Ikea lights and many more. I am also from the Netherlands and I use a SmartThings hub. I love it because it is so flexible. Please keep in mind that it is not intended for use in the Netherlands though, so you will need a workaround for the geoblock.
I've thought about doing this... am I able to make it illuminate only where you walk by? Not the whole LED strip but just whenever you are walking at the very moment.
Awesome video as always! I wish you could make a video for stairs (if I have not missed). I am planning to put 2 sensors, one at the top and one at the bottom of the stairs so it can be activated either ways. How can it be achieved??
@Capocosca thanks! I haven't done one for stairs yet. Our current house doesn't have stairs but our previous one did and it would have been nice to have. Yeah that's probably what I would do is have a motion sensor on top and bottom. You might have to adjust the motion sensor to only trigger when you are going up or down the stairs and not walking by.
I use Philips Hue motion sensors at the top and bottom of my stairs. I thought I could get away with using just one when I had it at the top, only it’s range is clearly not very far as it would only recognise movement once I was halfway up the stairs! Still, I use home automation as much as I can. I have two other sensors - one in my living room and one in my bathroom. The latter probably is the most ideal place to have one in any home. I get mine to set my bulbs to 5% brightness after 11pm, as no one likes full brightness when waking up in the middle of the night! Plus you can customise it some more. So for the period between 9pm and 11pm, I have it set to 50% brightness. The Hue app aswell as the Home app are most helpful setting this up
I have a question. We use the motion censor in our bathrooms, laundry room with the garage door and hallway because it make sense when you get up in the middle of the night or coming home when everyone is asleep. But how does the kitchen one work? All lights in the house are automotive too but we dont want the lights to turn on all the time just because we walked in the kitchen. We use voice. Could the censor work during a certain time frame? ex censor only works at bed time. Also do the censor work with lights that are connected to switches?
I did this same thing with the notion sensor under my.bed for a night light when I wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom tip life can actually turn on with the motion sensor with animations activated as it goes to the lights last state
Hey dude.. I have a question if you could help me please.. I am getting started with the concept of smart home.. I'm currently building my own apartment and I consulted an expert and had a KNX smart home infrastructure installed already.. Once I finish the plumbing and the floors, he will install the controllers. I'm planning on connecting everything to google home, and I would like to add some motion sensors to control smart lights around the apartment.. I liked the concept of the magnetic door sensors of smarthings.. my question is: if I have a google home can I skip the hub or do I need it anyways? Another question, for anti-intruders motion sensors, what do you recommend and do they need outlets? Thank you very much for your awesome videos! 👍
Please answer the following question : with regard to the lights under the bathroom counter, where do you plug the lights in to? Where is the power source?
I have a smart outlet that turns on and off my turtles basking lamp. I want to get a motion sensor that turns it on whenever it senses my turtle getting onto the basking platform and turns off when he's off of it. Would any of these sensors work for my situation?
SmartThings hub works really well for me. Philips Hue hub is also excellent for this purpose, but only works with Philips Hue lights & sensors. SmartThings hub works with many different brands and types of stuff (more than just lights) so that gives you some more flexibility of potentially adding a variety of smart stuff to your home in the future.
Awesome video mate. Any chance you have in mind a brand of light strips/smart hub that allows you to adjust how quickly the light goes from Off to your set Peak brightness?
I've mainly used Alexa enabled devices and Phillips Hue Hub / Light bulbs. Is the smart things hub similar to Alexa where you can create events etc? Whats better?
Yes, but SmartThings takes their automations a step further and lets you customize things more. I talk about SmartThings vs Alexa more in this video: ruclips.net/video/6UVskU-8_zY/видео.html
I can’t stop watching this one! You have inspired me such a lot. I’d like a motion sensor that triggers Alexa to say “welcome home”. Can you explain what a Hue bridge is? Thanks.
A Hue bridge is just a device that has Zigbee antennas in it. Since Hue bulbs don't connect to the WiFi they use Zigbee. So the bridge connects them to your network. I'm glad to hear you like the video!
I'm new to smart home and had a question regarding light strips. Are there any models that you can turn off a few LED on the strip? Meaning, a strip of 20 lights, is there a way of turning off 5 in the middle of the strip?
since the sensor is under the night stand by your feet, when leaving your bed...will it turn the lights on when you are at the foot of the bed where the sensor isnt in plain sight when walking back to the bed in the dark?
How do you set up the motion sensor to turn on your Lutron lights automatic with ifttt, and here comes the tricky question how to make the the sensor to not turn the lights on at night when your trying to sleep ??? I’m sure a lot of people are wondering how thanks
What would you think would be the best WiFi led strip also be able to turn it off by voice and maybe work with Alexa basically the best bang for the buck or best in your opinion
I'm obsessed with motion activated lights as well... but the first two light strips I bought (Auledio brand, two years ago, no longer available) gently faded on and off (instead of suddenly popping on instantaneously), which is exactly what I want from lights that come on automatically at night... but since then, I've been looking for more that do the same and it seems none of the current options out there will fade gently on and off. In your experience, have you found any that either that gently fade on when activated that or can be set to do that? Trust me, once you experience the gentle fade on and off effect, you will never accept sudden on/off again. It WILL hurt your soul.
I wanted brighter lights under my cabinets than just what the LED strip lights were producing, so I bought some magnetic chargeable stick on lights thinking this would give me more light and brightness. But when I have the led strp lights on, the magnetic motion detector lights won't work...what could be a solution for me?
Nice set up! Do you happen to have any videos or information on reusing the AT&T Digital Life Home Security System with the Smart Things Hub or how to use the cameras without paying for the AT&T service?
But if the bed is for 2 people, and i don't have space in the front of the bed ( i mean the front space is not empty, i have a big storage bench that cover the whole front of the bed) therefore it has to be placed on the sides of the bed, any ideas? If place it in one side, just one of the 2 people getting out of the bed will be able to activate it. Any ideas will be appreciated!!
Is it possible to attach two motion sensors to one light strip? I want to do a light strip on my stairs as they are steep and my husband complains about needing to use his phone light to navigate at 4am. All dual sensor lights i have seen are for beds and are connected to two different light strips. I am not comfortable wiring/or doing electrical work. I simply want two sensors for one strip of lights so going up or down the stairs you can have the lights turn on. I also must note i do not have any smart home set up, not even a alexa or google home. Its hard to justify paying over $200 to get a hub and set up just for my stairs. Any help would be awesome.
I have some wifi smart lights in my kitchen that the Smart Life app. I am looking for a motion sensor to trigger them and keep them on as long as there is movement in the kitchen and then turn off automatically when there is no movement. I tried a wifi PIR sensor from Amazon which was able to turn on the lights but there was no way to keep them on for as long as people were in the kitchen. It could only use a defined time to stay on and then there was a cool down period for it to turn the lights back on. Is there another solution? Could I use a SmartThings motion sensor? The lights are wifi so I'm not sure if they would talk to each other and didn't want to take a chance and it not work.
If the light strip is in off state but connected to power supply does it consume any power ? I guess still it needs to be connected to motion sensor and main supply
Make a haunted house where blenders and washing machines turn on automatically as you walk by.
😂😂😂
Yes not only that but connect a vacuum cleaner while your at it

Smart Home Solver You could add some at my house LOL I love LIFX I want to get some of the strips I have the lightbulbs I love the fact that you don’t need a bridge
@Troy lee haha sounds good! Yeah the LIFX light strips are awesome and not needing a bridge is great.
Smart Home Solver Hopefully soon I could get them I want them for underneath my couch and behind my computer desk
@Troy lee under the couch would look good. I might have to do that too.
Smart Home Solver I like the way you did it underneath the bathroom sink this other RUclips or that I watch he took the sink out and put an extra layer of this see-through silicone and he put the lights in there and the lights were shining through the sink it’s hard to explain but very cool

Man I can’t wait till I make enough money to afford a house like that ...beautiful home man I’m happy for you and the lights make it awesome
Thanks!
I use Home Assistant instead of Smart Things. It has a bit of a learning curve, but it’s SO POWERFUL!! It can literally automate anything!
5 years ago? I'm behind on tech apparently, this is so awesome lol I bet it's even better now. This is perfect for my elderly mom.
You can use the Hue Motion Sensor to control all HomeKit devices.
When you start led things up you cant stop :D
@GetWork so true!
Agree.
For real I've went real deep in only a couple weeks 😳
I was so obsessed with rgb strips like 6 years ago, stopped for a few years then started buying newer better ones like rgbic
Really love your videos. The effort you make to explain in detail really helps. Thank you and keep up the great work! From Malaysia!
I like how your shirt matches the color of your wall in your room. 10/10 would watch again.

Pound land ( UK) sell a 2 metre led strip with motion, dusk, dawn trigger, including cable for £5:00, $7.50. I've just fixed 2X under the kitchen cupboard units. They run off a std., 5V mains supply.
I have the Sylvania light strips under my cabinets and work perfectly. Fixing to add them to the back of the TV I think. Great videos. Thanks.
Do they work with the Philips Motion Sensor?
I have a Hue motion sensor on my basement stairs, turns the light on when I head upstairs and comes on when back door opens when we come home late

If you have lights plugged into a smart plug can 2 motion sensors trigger the one plug.. i.e. at the top and bottom of stairs (for the sensor)?
Pretty cool solution, man!
@Danny Bribiesca thanks!
I'm new to smart home and had a question regarding light strips. Are there any models that you can turn off a few LED on the strip? Meaning, a strip of 20 lights, is there a way of turning off 5 in the middle of the strip?
Cant wait… :))) do they also turn off???
since the sensor is under the night stand by your feet, when leaving your bed...will it turn the lights on when you are at the foot of the bed where the sensor isnt in plain sight when walking back to the bed in the dark?
Curious to know if you found the gently fading lights!
Hue bulbs fade on and off, so I would think their lightstrips would.
I wanted brighter lights under my cabinets than just what the LED strip lights were producing, so I bought some magnetic chargeable stick on lights thinking this would give me more light and brightness. But when I have the led strp lights on, the magnetic motion detector lights won't work...what could be a solution for me?
I want to know how you're wiring them up and where you're hiding the power block under cabinets.
I'll have to think about doing another follow up video showing that. Thanks for the suggestion.
Man, I LOVE your videos, thank you so much for all this explanation. Keep up the good work.
Have you tried the aqara motion sensor, and if so can it work with a smart things hub? Thanks
Only if it ignored pets...
I suppose the way to avoid pets triggering is to set the sensors high enough and to prevent the sensors range so it ignores pets
Cause it’s super cool to leave your pets in the dark
@@priscilaguimaraes2732 No, but would you like to light your bedroom at midnight just because the cat is walking around?
@@priscilaguimaraes2732 yeah because when I go to bed I turn the lights off, that goes the same for my animals. Duh...
Matt D IM SORRY FOR HAVING A HEART!!!!!
Nice set up! Do you happen to have any videos or information on reusing the AT&T Digital Life Home Security System with the Smart Things Hub or how to use the cameras without paying for the AT&T service?
Your bed looks similar to mine that where you attach the lights is fabric
Do the lights stay with the tape or do you do something else
Yes they have stayed on the fabric with the tape! I'm surprised but it's been over a year so I guess it works.
Please what type of light strip did you use in your bathroom?
Do you recommend any good light strips for stairs
If the light strip is in off state but connected to power supply does it consume any power ? I guess still it needs to be connected to motion sensor and main supply
