And now we've all pretty much switched to the ever awesome Kremer gold! 🤣 I love being vindicated for splurging on Finetec, though. Still use it sometimes.🖌
Great demo of gold pigments. Love Finetec. Consider trying Pearl Ex by Jacquard (Solar Gold). Hands down the brightest gold I have ever used. Comparable to real gold leaf. It is mixed with 4 parts Pearl Ex, 1 part gum Arabic, 2 parts water. It can be used on paper, sprayed, glued, brushed. Archival, non-tarnishing, weatherproof. It’s yummy. I use it for hand lettering with dip pens as well as water color.
Finetec is the one for me. The more gold the better. I've watched some beautiful calligraphy with it and it blew me away. :) Your comparison was the best I've seen because it showed me that you can get complete coverage with the heavy application. Love the stuff. :)
i feel like you ran your brush through longer in the finetec one in the second row of boxes. i heard the gansai tambi and finetec gold are pretty similar, you should have ran your brush through at the same length of time or something.
I have fallen in love with gold inks and paints after watching your recent videos. I have had the ink for a long time but never used them in my art, but you inspired me to use it! Thank you so so much!
I'm a newbie. I purchased the Finetech set without knowing any better. I just liked the variety. I don't mind the round pans as, I don't switch out my art supplies in that way. They are all incredibly pigmented in this palette. Very pleased with it. I live in the USA and paid a little over $18 for that set🤷♀️
hi Ceecee, the fine tec aren't stuck in the pallet, they pop out as here in Australia we are able to buy single colours to put back in set if you use one colour more than the other. Also there are other iridescent shades available. thanks for comparison, glad i have my finetec set.
Oh, i realized that after i published the video so I added an annotation LO. but thank you anyways for taking the time to comment. I will be on the lookout for more colors!
With the Finetec you can remove the individual colours from the base (they come away easily) but it still will not fit into portable paint pans. Thank you for the comparison.
You made my decision with this demo. Thank you. I already have the Gansai Tambi, but I had just bought a Finetec metallic set of various colors. I also got the Gansai Tambi set of golds and one white pearl (I think it's a white or champagne). I voted for the Finetec! XOXOJane
Love the video as always. I have the finetecs as well and was wondering whether to splurge on the Gansai or not. The pans in the Finetecs are removable too and you can buy them as individual pans as well. Just for future if you want to buy more of one color ;)
I sent you a message regarding the gold watercolor. ( I don’t know if you saw it) I accidentally saw this today and it was very helpful. I would love to see your splatter technique up close as I have trouble with doing that.
Finetec is my choice even though it is more expensive. We get what we pay for right? Lots of pigment with Finetec! Great review! This video helped me make that decision. It is so helpful when you can actually SEE how the paint behaves right in front of you. I am on my way to JetPens to purchase them! HA! Thanks so much for sharing this with us!!! ; )
For the last of the three tests maybe you better should have use the Daniel Smith directly out of the tube. Because this is the way they wanted it to be used. Maybe its more opaque when using it like this
I know this is an older video, but I hope you may see my question: What is the perfect little spiral bound book you are swatching in? And… what is your preferred journal for swatches these days ? Thanks so much, C.
Great question @c evans ... I have been meaning to ask her the same question, but since you already asked, I’ll second your journal/sketchbook question! If you got a DM reply, could you please let me know as well? Thank you! 😊
It looks a lot like the Bee Creative Watercolor Book. I know she loves Bee paper, and they can be found at Dick Blick in the US. They have different sizes and styles, and are very affordable. I use the 8x8 one every day for my warmups. Good luck! 🎨🖌

I've used gold drawing inks and they have a heavy pigment load and are water soluble so you can use them as a wash.. but I have to agree the fin-tec is much better! oh how I love sparkling things lol!
here's some...windsor & newton, also windsor &newton Calligraphy ink...speedball..Dr Ph Martin's iridescent Calligraphy ink...kol-noor (spelling?) well Cee-Cee dear that should keep you busy and broke! lol hugs,Heather
Thank you for the review! I just bought the Gansai Tambi, and now wish I had waited and gotten the Finetec. Both are beautiful, but I want as gold as possible for the hand lettered wedding invitations I'm doing for my daughter. Thanks for sharing all your videos!--Leslie
Leslie, do not worry. You made a very good choice. As I've mentioned, i love my Gansai Tambi gold. There is so little difference between the two. The wedding invitations will turn out great!
Wooow awesome! This is exactly what I needed right now, I want to buy my first gold watercolors and didn't know which ones to choose so thank youuuu! 🧡
I can't remember which on I used exactly as I use 2 interchangeably. they are: 1. PITT artist pen, S or F tip by Faber-Castell 2. Pigma Pro Micron, .03 tip by Sakura Both are water-resistant, bleed and smudge proof. HTH

Great! Thank you for this demonstration. Enjoy your videos very much 🎉❤❤❤❤
Arabic Gold would have blown all the others in this test. I have the gansai tambi and mozart. I love mozart. Creamy and opaque

I was able to twist the pans and could remove them from the Fine Tec set I have. Thank you for such a thorough comparison.

Glad to be of help, Susan. Yes, the Finetec is quite exceptional.
Very useful information, thank you!
You've got me loving the gold. Got to get me some. Love how the gold gives a pop of elegance to your watercolored pages. TFS.
i feel like you ran your brush through longer in the finetec one in the second row of boxes. i heard the gansai tambi and finetec gold are pretty similar, you should have ran your brush through at the same length of time or something.
I agreed
Always good info. Thanks!
YA! This video comparing these golds answered a question I left you on another video. Thank you for doing the for us!
P.S. You Can remove the pans in the Finetec palette. They just pop right out. Grab the rim and twist.......... ; )
I have fallen in love with gold inks and paints after watching your recent videos. I have had the ink for a long time but never used them in my art, but you inspired me to use it! Thank you so so much!
I bought the gansai tambi set today and I can't wait to get my brush in them. You are an inspiration to us all!!! Thanks for all that you do💞
You'll enjoy the Gansai Tambi set. Glad I can inspire you to create!

Hi, could you tell me where in Australia you bought your set ?
Oh, i realized that after i published the video so I added an annotation LO. but thank you anyways for taking the time to comment. I will be on the lookout for more colors!
hi Annabelle, www. goldleaf. com.au , (Victoria). a lovely family business cheers
I can totally understand how someone can get addicted to that beautiful gold watercolor set.
The Finetec pans are also removable. You just have to pull them :3
yes, i was informed of that after i filmed. thank you!
I use the Finetech. I love them!!
Thank you 😘
This old video is very practical and applicable!
I'm not a fan of gold.... But I like the way you've been using it...
And based on this comparison, my favourite is the Finetec, one. 😃

I’d like to see what the Daniel Smith is like right out of the tube
Yes, Finetek is my favorite. It's worth the higher price.
Love the video as always. I have the finetecs as well and was wondering whether to splurge on the Gansai or not. The pans in the Finetecs are removable too and you can buy them as individual pans as well. Just for future if you want to buy more of one color ;)
thank you, Bia. Yes, i realized they are removable after i made the video and have added an annotation to that effect.
I sent you a message regarding the gold watercolor. ( I don’t know if you saw it) I accidentally saw this today and it was very helpful. I would love to see your splatter technique up close as I have trouble with doing that.
Amazing how different they are!
I'm so glad you did this because I have been wondering about the two palletes. Both are gorgeous, but now I am more well-informed. Thanks. :)

Ok, Fintec is made for calligraphy. It's designed to be more opaque because it's a calligraphy product for dip pens. The others are true watercolors.
For the last of the three tests maybe you better should have use the Daniel Smith directly out of the tube. Because this is the way they wanted it to be used. Maybe its more opaque when using it like this
Thank you CeeCee, for the great comparison.
you're most welcome!

I've just received my Finetec gold watercolour paints woohoo. Thank you for the comparison :-)

Another awesome video!! Thank you, CeeCee!!!
Thanks for the comparison!
Where did u get that flat plate? Would be perfect for my gouache.
it's actually a desert dish. I have a set of 6. It's just plane white porcelain plates.
I have seen people take the little pans out of the finger pallet, just letting you know, I don’t know how easy it is to take out so I don’t know
Finetec not finger, dang autocorrect
Wooow awesome! This is exactly what I needed right now, I want to buy my first gold watercolors and didn't know which ones to choose so thank youuuu! 🧡
Great lesson
Nice to know for future reference xx
So enjoyed
This was very helpful.
What pen did you use for the fine writing? O.o

Thank you so much! :)
Thanks for sharing CeeCee!! :)
Thanks for the video :). I got the Gansai set today, i payed 14 euro's for it. I will try them tomorrow
Hope you have fun with them!
I hope everyone found the reply about the gold inks alright?
