      +Rob Watts I wasn't sure at first but it was too accurate with the current future to be made in the 1930s. Also like Crashhandburn999 said, electronic computer didn't really exist until the 50s. The term "computer" is far older though but I'm pretty sure that the term "crash" for a computer was only popularized around the 70s.

      ***** in street at Clarks shoe shop they had a primitive electronic computer that was made in the late 1880s

      Same here. When they said "my computer crashed" I said "Hey wait a minute...and realized I was being stupid" but this is really funny.

    • @JeffDeWitt

      Not possible. They might have had a primitive analog computer but there were no electronic devices until the invention of the vacuum tube early in the 20th century.

      At first, I thought this was a real dated 1937 film. But when I saw the portable Grammophones, I got the joke. Truthful as the trend is, British people in 1937 would have thought this would be completely awkward! Exposed midriffs, yes. But they will be tummies that are tight, toned, and twerked.

    • @resilient5557
      @resilient5557 7 лет назад

    The reason they're talking about 2001 and getting it so accurate is because this episode was made and aired in 2001. It's a spoof!
    For those who STILL don't understand: British railway privatisation happened in the 1990s and hasn't been 100% successful. The portable gramophone is poking fun at the Sony Discman and other portable CD players that were popular around the millennium. "The Enormous Turkey" is poking fun at the Millennium Dome because "turkey" is British slang for a loser or something completely useless/pointless. "Jollity" is obviously Ecstacy.

      Another joke is that the railways weren't nationalised until 1948 and this spoof is set in 1937 when there were separate rail companies, just like after the privatisation of 1994-97.

      ***** It's true, it was too expensive to go to the Moon so they went to Mars instead. That's why all the photo's and TV transmissions were in black and white. No-one suspected a thing! The laser reflectors at the "landing sites" were actually set up by Werner von Braun's contacts at the Nazi Moon Base.

    That was a deliberate joke. Mr Chalmondley and Mr Warner think they can do an Australian accent but actually sound like they are from Birmigham.

    They were so right about every household having a computer and women being in leadership positions and grammaphone records being so small that you can hold them in the palm of your hands.
