- Another video from the #exploreindianrailways series! This is yet another MG to BG converted line.
The Vridhachalam - Salem railway line was a meter gauge line in the past. It was converted to Broad Gauge only about a decade ago. This journey was in a DEMU. The route was quite crowded - much more crowded that I had anticipated!
As a resident from chinna Salem, the reason for the name Chinna Salem is the kalvarayan Hills.
Actually the name was kept by the people who have been living for a very long time in that hills .they named so,because the starting end which is broader compared to the end, the starting end they named Salem (at first it had been called as SAILAM meaning " hills" which as per the time ,it changed to SALEM. The shorter end of the hills got the name"CHINNA SALEM" which is "CHINNA SAILAM " then,"SMALL SALEM" (THE small hills). I hope that you have understood the meaning 🙂

It’s the same in krishnarajapuram in Bangalore platform 4 is the main one for downward trains and platform 2 for upward ones

wonderful. you can do some taxi / bike tour of Salem steel plant, Mettur dam, Tunnel poerr house, Madras Alumiunium factory . Salem has been a major heavy-industry hub for over 60 years now.
It will be very nice if you cover some day-time train from Salem to Bangalore thgrough Krushnagiri.

There is no railway line through krishnagiri. The existing line goes via Dharmapuri. I've covered that route - the video would be released on New Year day
