I have owned a MYP for 2 years (2021), I just purchased a Model S LR, we are keeping the Model Y also. The S is defintely quieter and pulls so much harder at higher speeds than my MYP. Both cars are great but the S is just nicer, although getting in and out of the MYP is easier. We live in the Phoenix metro area and the ventilated seats are worth their weight in gold. The range difference is substantial. We have roadtripped the Y many times to the west coast, Vegas, Colorado etc. and I find that the Y range is overstated, I can ususally get ~210-220 miles between charging. I need 3 stops to drive Phonix to Albuquerque in the Y, I recently did the same trip in the S and only stopped once in Holbrook, AZ. I find the stated range of the model S is closer to true than the model Y. The price delta between the 2 is pretty large, and pound for pound the model Y is such a great car with an attractive price, the S was a spluge that I truly love to drive, just my 2 cents.
I just upgraded from a MYP to a 23 Model S. I would recommend getting the Model S. Much more range, and it feels luxurious compared to the rough and sporty feel of the Y. It’s super quite, rides very smooth, has a better sound system, and is noticeably faster.
I’m torn. I like the model S a lot, but the Y sits higher and probably more practical for cargo. So you’ve had the S now for a while, still prefer it over the Y?
Yes. The S actually handles wider and longer cargo better. I just look forward to driving it in general. I had a much better experience driving across the US (CA to NY) with the Model S than I did with the Model Y. You can drive with sustained high speeds with the Model S, not something you can really do with the Y.
You would be suprised. There was actually more length and width with the model S. The Y was only 1.5 inches taller from the folded seat to the ceiling as i was measuring head height when I have the dreamcase bed in it. Inwas shocked @cheesun124
New Model S and Model Y owner here. Great information... Good presentation... agree, the Model S is so much nicer than our Model Y! I find no need myself for the 1000 hp Plaid but I do miss the spoiler and red calipers. The steering yoke is great and took no time to get used to it. Thanks for taking the efforts to share your video.
Great review! I agree with you about the poorer trunk visibility of the MY. I own a 2015 MS 85D and am considering to trade it with MY long range but still haven’t decided yet. Price difference is around 30k and it’s an important factor. I don’t like the new button controls on the steering wheel of new MS. I wish Tesla would give me my signal stick and wiper stick on a new MS, then I would buy it today! Unfortunately I don’t find the new buttons and don’t find them easy to use in an emergency. My vision was blocked this morning at the speed of 70 mph in a relatively busy road (many lanes of the highway being full and cars driving at not-so-low speed) and I had no difficulty to run the wipers quickly, and boom I had a clear visibility thru my windshield. I can’t imagine how one would do such a thing with the new wiper button. I even tried overnight demo drive to give it a chance but there is no way you can make the button work at the first attempt. I appreciate it that you compared these two models I was interested in. and you don’t get many reviews like yours as they’re not considered the same category cars. Thank you again!!
Great review man, Thanks a lot. One quick note which I noticed while watching this video is next time make FPS higher for your videos, feels little bit laggy watching it, try to get at least 30-60fps for those videos. Thanks!

Thanks for this comparison, there are only a handful (if that) of videos comparing the two of these models.

Do you think it’s worth the 30k extra?

Glad I could help! I own a new model s long range now and it is way fast enough
Thank you for the review.
Glad it was helpful!
Huge price difference today…. With $20k down model Y at $450 a month… S would be well over $1k
