My background is Indian and I started listening to her songs way back in 1976 when I was only 14 years. I was having her song audio cassettes. My favorite singers happened to be ONLY Um Kulthoum and Asmaha. She was a princess who came from a royal family in Syria who happened to leave suddenly her birthplace and migrate to Egypt because of political problems against her royal family. Her mother happened to be also a great singer but she didn't sing that much and didn't get fame like Asmaha and of course her elder brother, Farid, the singer and a great music composer. They have another brother, Fouad, who was not a singer. They called her 'an angelic voice'.

She is a princesse and coming from a royal family didn't make her coming out as an artist easy. She suffered a lot. Even her brother wouldn't let her sing. Luckily she had the support o her other brother. People talk about her death being suspicious. Sad Esmahan... Yet so gifted and so beautiful.

She was born in 1912 in a ship when the family was escape from Turkey to Egypt

Asmahan and Farid mother’s was musician too. As they come from a Noble family (the had the prince and princess titles) it was not seen with a good eye to become a music professional (musician and singer) back then that’s why the mother fled to Egypt and they were given different names than their born names (Asmahan and Wahid)
Many thanks for such a sublime song sung by the best singer the Arab World has ever had. BTW, the composition by Riadh Al-Sunbati not Al-Qasabji. Also, the song is about her dead husband in the movie.
You should talk about her best song composed by her brother the great Farid Elatrash ( ليالي الانس في فينا) Nights in Viena ....much better then this song ...she was the princesse for Real...She was beautiful and had incredible voice much better them Em kaltoum who was jalous of Asmahan , It is why Em kaltoum was accused of killing her ... her death still unsolved mystery

Indeed it is a sad song. I know Asmahan as I am Syrian but, I did not know this song. Her most famous song is Ya Touyour (where said she is in a garden and you feel her talking to the birds and the water stream) and Ya Habibi Taala (where the same musical notes are said in a different not each time) I highly recommend you to listen to them.
