She's probably very intelligent but was purposely self-epracating to the asshole who was Chris' father (big shot attorney just wanting to quickly clear this issue up for Chris before he ha to go to court for a client & have the teacher lose her job - that's what he was up to in the novel @ 2002 film @ least: threatening to sue the school unless Chris got her prom privleges reinstate & the teacher lose her job. Thankfully the principal in the novel & 2002 swiftly put him in his place.) The 1976 version left out the confrontation between Chris' father, the principal & teacher.

In the book and all of the movies, Sue certainly wasn’t the character I liked the most, but she was the one I could relate to. Despite cruelly making fun of Carrie when she was hysterical during her first period, she genuinely felt remorse. I think everyone can relate to that horrific feeling of ostracizing someone out of fear of not fitting in. She was under no obligation to be friends with Carrie, but I felt she genuinely tried to make up for what she did.

Most school shooters are sadistic in nature (rather than becoming destructive due to being hurt) and hurt innocent people in premeditated attacks ( www.nytimes.com/2018/03/27/opinion/nikolas-cruz-shooting-florida.html ) whereas Carrie was genuinely a nice person who was pushed too far by a lifetime of abuse and lost control, harming people who hurt her directly in a moment of blind rage, which she deeply regretted later.

I think Margaret is ashamed to admit to herself that she is sexually attracted to Sue's mom. She's having a hard time looking directly at Sue's mom when she does she looking at her up and down, I say she's scratching herself in away of fighting that feeling of temptation by bringing pain to her body. She accuses Carrie of having lustful thoughts while in the shower with the girls but it's really her having the lustful thoughts. And I think she's directing the "these are godless times" quote at herself because her inner desire and her beliefs are battling each other and she having a hard time picking sides. Her belief is what she should do and her desire is what she secretly craves. She walks away shaking her head because she can not bring herself to admit what she's feeling inside.

That’s because they updated the movie, whereas it’s so timeless you can read the book and not realize it was written in the 1960s - 70s. There’s also the fact that the book is just a bunch of documents assembled together with the narrative. For example, Carrie might have her period and then we get a news article about Margaret’s birth with Carrie.

I do like the book better, but there’s some stuff I like about the movie. Still, the book has Carrie be that fat, ugly girl, and nobody does anything about her and Margaret. She even wonders if after she graduates high school what’ll happen.

This is the first time I’ve ever seen this scene, and I haven’t seen Carrie (the original movie) in a LONG time. When I saw this I thought “Maybe Carrie’s mom is hurting herself because she feels attraction to a beautiful woman being kind to her” like some sort of deterrent to homosexual thoughts and urges.
