I really like the contrast Joshua brings with his low key, chill approach to reviews / videos. The upbeat, higher energy videos are great too. Big fan of Moment all around, crew included - keep up the great content! P.S. Y’all’s music choices in videos is spot on 👌🏻.
I find the 12 Pro Max stands over the 12 Pro when you force the HDR video grading. When you push it and watch in bigger screens is when you see the real benefits. What about the light flickering? That ruins many shots. Any ideas?
What's that weird exposure compensation, almost breathing look when walking? Why nobody mentions that. It makes the video look horribly artificial. How can you get rid of that?
Exactly! Nobody is addressing this big issue (so far). It might be due to a to heavy dynamic white balance compensation (badly executed by the iphone’s software). I guess fixing the white balance in manual mode should avoid this ugly effect 🤞🏻
@micka Luna Yeah, that’s what I’m using, it worked for me but I’ll do some more testing tomorrow morning and get back to you to see if there’s other things I can do.
Do you think 128 or 256 matters since there is iCloud storage etc..... I just didn’t know thoughts since this is my only camera for film and photo taking
FYI 3:22 Wide angle camera on iPhone have had OIS for a couple of years now but it’s from the Lens(not electronically). This year Max just changed that to sensor shift. IMHO there’s not much difference here.
Unfortunately, the ghosting will be apparent with Moment lenses as well. At least that’s what happened with my iPhone X and 11. But believe the ghosting was also present on my iPhone 6S Plus, but can’t remember and I didn’t have Moment lenses back then.
The footage looks p good, but I’m noticing the flickering HDR issue, like at 3:41 in the clouds. This is also an issue with the 11 Pro, and it kind of ruins some shots for me 😭 I wish Apple fixed that problem in the 12 Pro. Rly cute comparison tho 👏🏼
I returned 3 iPhone 11's over this issue and now have an iPhone 11 Pro max that is only slightly better. Even did a live recording while Apple technicians were connected to the phone remotely and was told it will probably be fixed in a future iOS update. 4 updates later and no fix yet. It seems that any time you move the phone and shoot video in a higher contrast scene this issue shows up. I'm really surprised there aren't more people complaining about this! If you watch the video on a larger display it's terribly distracting. The only way I've been able to almost stop this is to shoot in Filmic Pro and lock absolutely everything plus turn off stabilization. Your video from a while back is the only one I've found talking about that issue, so thanks!
@@scottg.1764 I agree. This ugly effect ruins totally ruins many shots. I was thinking a possible work-around when I read your comment. I was thinking locking the white balance in manual mode would be enough. But it seems you’ve been there already and locking everything is not enough?? Damm.. That’s really bad news! What about the stabilization mode? It affects as well the flickering?? I wasn’t expecting that either.. Your thoughts would be much appreciated.
@@MickaLuna Yeah, I was trying everything to get rid of the issue. Didn't really want to buy Filmic Pro but bought it and ran a whole bunch of tests, locking individual settings and shooting/reviewing over and over again. The two that help the most are locking the white balance and turning of stabilization, which sucks because the stabilization is really good. I've tried the Moment app, Pro Cam, and a few others and it still is very apparent. It doesn't even matter if I shoot 720p 24 fps or 4k 60fps and all the combinations in between. It shows up in the sky and on any textured surface the most. I have a gravel driveway at work and that's where I first noticed the problem and continue to test there. I can shoot the same scene with my Galaxy S10 and I don't have the same issues at all. Photos don't show the issue, though, and it shoots pictures extremely well.
@@scottg.1764 Thanks for the info! Did you try the 12 Pro Max by any chance? I wonder if it has improved this issue over the 11 Pro Max (even though the issue is still there)
@@MickaLuna No problem! I have not tried the 12 Pro Max and that's why I was watching this video. I was really disappointed to see the flickering in the sky on this video, which tells me it's got the same problem. If they didn't have the two shots side by side at 3:41 and showed them full screen, it would really be apparent
Not software stabilization only, but optical. Sensor shift replaced optical stabilization on wide lense on pro max. Some people say it had to be done because lense stabilization wools not fit due to sensor size and lense size. But we still get the benefit of better stabilization it seems.
I would love to see an example of recording your kids sports games side by side between the two phones. It's a common enough use case for the parent crowd. Does the extra telephoto make a big difference when recording a soccer game? How about stabilization?
This is the first video I watch of you(thank you RUclips algorithms ) And men, when you start talking what a shock, you can replace the narrative voice of Morgan Freeman. 👌🏽
Apple need to fix the night time light artefacts/ghosting and is anyone else noticing the weird shifts happening in the picture (more obvious during daytime) e.g. 3:38 look at the sky. Still a great camera but it's something that seemed to start with the 11.
Hello Guys, I am currently using iphone 7 and I am about to change it for a pro model. I am slightly confused whether to take 12 pro or 12 pro max. Does the battery life of pro max model worth it, considering the size of the phone?
If your conflicted between the two just pick the size you want cuz the 12 pro max is like the widest phone out there it’s like a brick in your hands and battery life depends on your usage if you play a lot of games and take pics like 24/7 you should probably get the max otherwise if your an average user just get the normal pro and the difference in camera is not something you should worry about unless your a photographer and edit your high end pc with a 10 bit HDR display and like most websites and apps compress your image so there won’t be a noticeable difference and the max is easier to break and that is proven with the drop tests all over youtube because of the heavier weight on the max but I think the first thing to consider for the average consumer is the size difference since you were using the iPhone 7 I think you should pick the 12 pro cuz the max will feel like an iPad mini in your hands
@@akumu5506Thank you so much for your comprehensive response! I consider myself as an average user, so definately will go for iphone 12 pro . I suppose that using pro max model in my day to day lifestyle will not be convenient as this phone is huge. Again, many thanks for helping me with the choice! ☺️
Looks like the ghosting/lens flare got worse from the 11 pro Max. I’m in Texas where we always have a bright sun and seeing it on every video I record pretty much. Really enjoyed this video, seems like I finally saw an unbiased iPhone review on this channel.
hi guys, i have a Pro Max and i see this flare issue in che night video, do you have any solution to fix that? lenses, software or other? thanks for your review, great review
At 5:30 you can tell that the iPhone 12 Pro Max (so many words) is showing a bit more depth to the foreground and the background. The stabilization of the Pro Max is a bit better coming out of that rear wide angle camera too... Hmmm 🤔
No big deference between models?? The Pro models offer 10-bit video and AppleRaw photo compression. I’m surprised a filmmaking accessory company would forget something like that.
I really dislike the video flickering in the clouds at 4:10, Automatic HDR still has a long way to go. As much as I like to use it at night because it helps with lightin, I will be turning it off during the daytime

I really really want to know if the DJI Mobile 4 can handle the new 12 pro Max. I know DJI upped how strong the motor, but is it enough for the new bigger phone? Also does the new image stabilization in the Max negatively affect the stabilization the gimbal is doing? Finally, will a moment lens throw that weight off even more... and hey(!), what does some of the lens we own do to the quality? (New lens maybe...😍).
