  • Jackson Hole Gem Mine has valuable gemstones and crystals in their Salted Buckets. They say they dredge the semi precious gemstones from the local creeks. If you have a gem cutting machine you can turn North Carolina roadside gems into beautiful faceted pieces of jewelry. "Gem Grubbing" is fun for kids and adults. Especially if you know how to cut garnets, emeralds, sapphires and rubies on a lapidary machine like the Ultra Tec. See the large selection of semi precious rocks located here.

Hey Buddy, you don't have any gem quality things there so if someone told you the garnet and sapphire were worth $500 when cut, don't believe them.

I disagree, as worthless as Amethystis is. (purple quartz), mined by the ton. Women still pay thousands for Amethyst rings in Jewelry stores. If you know how to market, your turning worthless rocks into money. That's true of any gemstone, it's just a rock. There is already over 100 year supply of diamonds cut. Yet people pay thousands per carat. They are worthless as well, until controlled supply comes into play.

The rule of 4 C's (color, clarity, carat and cut) make the price for a facetted stone.
Rough for faceting; it's important that the crystal is clear/transparant, without internal inclusions/fractures, saturated color and the shape of the rough (for the possible cut)

@@sms3037 I think you will like the videos of Thailand and Sri Lanka coming up. I am in the markets telling them all the issues with their stones like the 4 C's. You will see the NC videos were just fluff.
