As Naples, form the Two-Sicilies, then since the Sicilian mafia is the best known in the world, create the mafia by taxing other countries (declare war on them to get money). You win when you get 20k ducats in your treasury with no loans (it's pretty doable actually)
Hawk, that 1001 dev as Arabia was kinda the perfect EU4 reference to the collection of Middle Eastern folktales compiled in the Arabic language during the Islamic Golden Age called "One Thousand and One Nights", in English often known as "Arabian Nights". Great fun to watch as usual!
@youshouldntknowmyname706 wrong, the collection was originally written in Arabic from a variety of sources, including Persian, Sanskrit and Babylonian, although mostly sourced from Arabic language texts. Being a collection, the core of the stories (from 1000 Nights, itself a Persian collection, circa late 700s) were originally Persian, translated into Arabic and then Arabic stories were added on over the course of the next thousand years swelling the story count to match the new title, One Thousand and One Nights. It was this text, referenced by OP, that was translated into English in the late 1700s as Arabian Nights. Thus, you can see, One Thousand and One Nights was written in Arabic, as mentioned.
I believe there is a chart showing which provinces and at what dev they should be at for the most efficient deving for institutions, and IIRC the 9 dev province would have been better to dev the Renaissance. The thing I remember from that chart is 16 dev farmlands with a center of trade are the absolute best for institution deving in regards to cost efficiency.
Speaking about achievements, have you thought about doing a series on all EU4 achievements after you complete the AtoZ and Releasables? There are some really intresting ones (excluding the extremly basic ones, like Royal marriage or win a battle), and if you add in the Wheel of pain we will all be able to cheer for the inevitable Three Mountains drop. Some achievements are obviously not suited for one video, but a small series could be fun
@17:30 your allies won't break an alliance (despite threatening to do so) while at war. So long as the Ottomans are at war with Venice, you can consider the alliance intact. But usually the month the war finishes, they break it.
you aren't forced to use dip point into deving before institution/tech spawn. You can store it in cultural conversion of a province, and cancel it later. it doesn't produce unrest, and you retake every point you put in it. For an high dev province, it takes decades to convert them, so it's not really bothersome.
@20:15 Could be that the Mamluks sold the province to the Ottomans, that would explain how there was no core by Mamluks (revoke after selling) and the lack of claim or core by Ottomans (wanted territory is easier to sell).
Since Naples is one of the poorest regions in Italy, I think you should give them the right to have revenge: you have to rule as Naples all the North Italian provinces and have in them high devastation while having prosperity in all the Southern provinces
@@minecraftherobrine1234till the fall of western roman empire the center-south was always richer. Then roman gothic wars and eastern roman administration was not bussin. But Naples remained the biggest italian city till 1900

Naples (or, atleast parts of it) was the last regions in Italy that Byzantine reconquered from the Goths under Justinian before losing them to the Lombards. So maybe conquer Lombary province and the Greek Peninsula as Naples?
Great video as always hawk! Here's an idea for what to do as Naples. Fulfill Robert The Fox's ambitions. Unite the two Sicilies, conquer Antioch, Jerusalem and all of the Balkans. Historically Robert's descendants would be crowned kings of Sicily. His son Bohemond was SUPPOSED TO be the count of Antioch after the first crusade (If I'm not mistaken he died during the crusade though). Robert frequently raided the Byzantines in the Balkans and straight up invaded them a couple times.
Hawk, ironically, is the one of the most dovish EU4 streamers… basically never declares war unless his alliance outnumbers enemy 2:1, and every other video he loses an opportunity because he waits too long and his ally declares the war and calls him in before he’s ready to declare himself… sometimes ya just gotta roll the iron dice, man!
I'd love to see a series where you go for the achievement to own the 500 provinces. 2 or 3 vids going over it would be fun. Could always continue this run to do that
I think they changed something with the logic for when an ally is allowed to call you into a war because I've also been getting constant calls to arms for offensive wars by allies while I'm already at war. As the player it's almost impossible to ever call in an ally if they're already at war, but it seems to be happening all the time in the opposite direction now. Kinda frustrating.
Some of the Arabia minors are really hard to play though they are sometimes really interesting, Oman is one of the best outside europe nation for trading, though you just can't play it decently without many dlc. Since in Vanilla 8/10times Hormuz will ally Mamelucks, while rivaling you and without special options to improve relations your best ally will be something like belutschistan, since your isolated religion just doesn't help. Playing tall for the first years is with ~80dev cost not an option either. So you need to wait 50ish year to get mamelucks beaten by ottomans or your extremly lucky and hormuz allys someone which you can for what reason attack, though thats not really a decent playstyle when you want to to roleplay a bit. And the other 1/10 time timurids will be extremly strong and try to expand into hormuz basically making your campaign a lot harder. If your trying to optimize a playthrough on those minors youre just going to have dozens of trys before everyrhing falls in place, sincw you need to be fast before Swahili/Kongo/Ethiopia gets to strong to decently defeat. Since as Oman ypu eant the east coast of africa basically cutting asia/india trade from europe and hoarding it yourself.
Kanuni Sultan Suleiman is Suleiman the Magnificent. Kanuni means "The Lawgiver" in Turkish. Like Fatih Sultan Mehmet, which Fatih means "The Conqueror", he got his nickname as his Name. Western nations called him the Magnificent, but normally he called as that.

Generally speaking, if youre playing in Arabia, forget about allying Ottomans. I frequently play Oman, and my strategy is to rush to annex Dawasir and Mikhlaf, so to cut off Mamluks from the south of the peninsula. Then, annex the minors in the south-eastern part of the peninsula and jump over to the Horn. From there, keep pushing south and destroy Kilwa (you need to do it quick, before they ally either Ottos or Mammies). This should give you enough breathing room to expand into the primitives around Zanzibar, while also taking chunks out of Ethiopia and the rest of the Horn. Breathing room... not so much power, though. It should be enough to turn around and hit the Mamluks now, but Ottos are a whole different animal. Ottos will always want Mecca, and they will want it so badly, that they will break any treaty to get it. If you get it first, or have it tagged as vital interest, youre instantly on Ottos "to kill" list, and they tend to expand in your direction to stomp you flat. It is honestly RNG whether they expand this far south or not, but if its past 1600, theres a chance they will start racking up decadence. If you dont match them quality-wise or numbers-wise - you are fucked. Im usually finished with my quality based ideas by 1600, so Ottos are more like a paper tiger than anything else, and their decadence helps swing things around, in case they declare, but you never know. They might not be dying yet, due to having high absolutism, preventing decadence from killing them, at which point you will kinda have to fight. So, avoid taking Mecca. At least until you feel like you can take on the Ottos. PS: allying Ottos is like allying France. If youre doing either, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Syria doesn't start with a core on Jerusalem, but the province has Syrian culture. There's a decent chance Syrian separatists occupied the province at some point, giving Syria a core there.
