Well it took me 25 minutes: 22 minutes to find some f'in scotch tape and an Allen key that fit, then 3 minutes to do the actual set up like in the video! Ha!
Seems like everyone is in agreement with this being a great process. I'm going to give it a shot. I get some buzzing from my G string on my Strat when playing certain songs. I'm not sure why though. When I just pluck the string it doesnt buzz so the only thing I can think of is it may be how aggressive I hit the string when playing the song at that point or maybe the way I fret it when coming off the note prior. Anyway I'll definitely give this a shot, it can't hurt. Update: I went ahead and did this with my strat that the "G" string was periodically buzzing on certain songs and it eliminated the buzzing completely! Hello all, as Ronnie said the neck was slightly bowed, with the wider gap under the 12th fret. I fixed it that night by adjusting the truss rod. The random buzzings where caused by a string slightly touching the frets on certain notes. I fixed it with the help of a technician who grinded the frets, bringing all the frets to the same height. I hope I've been clear enough and I'll help somebody 🙂🤞
You are Awesome Mr. Frudua. I have brought my Prized Vintage Strat - to several ( so called ) Professional Guitar Tech's in NYC, ( each of them screwed-up my guitar ) but after watching Numerous Videos ( from you ), I have set-up my Strat with Floating Tremolo and it Never Goes Out of Tune. You are Amazing and I Appreciate you Sharing your Knowledge & Expertise.
Didn't work for me at all. After doing this, the string was completely pressed against the neck whenever I tried to pick while pressing down the 12th fret, making no noise. Is my neck too curved? It doesn't seem that bad with the regular test of pressing down the string.
The other 'totally reliable' and another 'best' video he has here is one titled 'How To Set up a Strat Floating Tremolo'... where he uses pads of sticky notes to set the float height; very clever and always works well.
Hey guys can u help me? my electric guitar action is low(low e is 1mm and high e is 1.5mm) but my problem is the g string because it has fret buzz. which part of guitar should i adjust?
Actually, this really is the craziest method to set-up the action on any guitar. I did set-up an about 2mm (below 5/64") low action on a Strat in 2 minutes: no buzz at all all along the 22-frets (painted) maple fretboard (0.0095 - 0.044 strings) and strings follow the radius very, very precisely. Strings are low and soft and you can bend easily. The most difficult step of this procedure is to attach the tape in the best way to hold the card in place...ahahah! :) Thank you, Gale: a blast of a trick!
The most important part was skipped to get good action, he missed the fret job. Set the neck completely flat by adjusting the truss rod with no strings on, get a fret leveling tool from Stew Mac. Masking tape all the fret wood, but leave the frets showing. Black magic marker all the frets, and level them until the last black mark is gone. Dont overdo it. Now you will need a diamond fret crowning tool and crown them all. Next use 600 sandpaper dragging it flat across all the frets evenly, not sideways, but the legnth of the fretboard at a brisk speed.working your way to 1200, 1500, 2000 grit. Next you can buff the frets to a mirror finish with fine automotive compound. String up the guitar and set the bow at .007-..010 at the 12th fret, tuned up.Then you are ready to set the string slots in the nut, then the action/intonation.
@@donrutter6765 not most people have the tools to the fret dress or have the money for that. Frudua just gave a simple easy to follow string action adjustment.

Now that I'm getting back into playing again with the purchase of a Fender Squier, Now I know why it was so difficult pressing on the strings. This was a great video thanks for sharing.
This video saved me a lot of headache. I tweaked it with a radius gauge after using this method, and the action on my guitar is the best its' ever been. Bravo
This was quite helpful. Not that my strings needed lowering but it helped identify that the buzz I am hearing on my new Gretsch is from the bridge & that the neck needed more relief. I thought it was string buzz on the frets from being too low. Thanks.

The frustration I had, was that it was a NEW guitar and I was told that it would come "set-up". They have new management, a new look (renovated store) and apparently new "policies". I don't think I've ever bought a NEW guitar that came requiring a ($60) set up, but maybe Chuck Surack and his Sweetwater gang (in my case Robert Koch) have spoiled me. Thank you very much Mr. Frudua for your great tips!! I followed your lecture to adjust the action on my Warmoth strat and that really solved my long problem in gettimg it set-up right (i am rather a player with very light touch, so the lowest possible action is always what i require for my own playing). It took me really less than 3 mins to get the action right which has been puzzling me for 2 years since i built that Warmoth strat. Truly enjoy and like your video lectures on guitar set-up. Cheers, greetings from Hong Kong.

This little trick worked amazingly well. The key is to make sure the credit card is positioned properly at the correct radius of the neck and also as mentioned pluck the strings very lightly. This will definitely get your guitar in the "ballpark". Thanks!
Galeazzo, this is absolutely brilliant! Just wish I had seen your video before buying neck radius gauges and an action height ruler. Lei e' un genio! Complimenti!

THIS IS AWESOME!!!! It worked amazing on my Stratocaster. I always struggled with right action and never got it right. But this method with the credit card really worked for me.
omg thank you so much! I was having buzzing with my strings, and because I don't have the special card to measure the millimeters, I thought there was no way I could get it right, until I found your video. Once again thank you!.
I can see why you had to tune up every time if you lower the string it gets loose and more floppy which means it's not at the correct tension to justify fret buzz
Just set up my american professional strat! Boo yah! Did truss first then this. Then intonation and now it’s magnificent. FYI I also blocked my floating two post terminals. Two pine wedges I made and it’s a rock solid rock machine that stays in tune very well!
Thanks for the tip, it seems like it would be a good way to do it... I am always amazed how many different techniques that are used like this and not technical or confusing... greatly appreciated!
I build cigar box guitars. This is a very helpful technique for me to use. We who build CBG's always want to make great playing instruments. Thank you very much.
what should it be the right order to perform a Guitar setup in case you Buy a second hand Guitar?. What comes First? for example: 1.Truss Rod, 2.Strings action, 3.intonation. Thanks for Your videos Your RUclips channel its great!!.
The first steps should lead to a perfect action. Using the tremolo is something you cautiously add to your sound. Since it is a very deliberate action l don" t think there is a risk of strings touching the frets. So in mho I do not think you have to pay attention to the tremolo.
Yes the tremelo springs will need adjusting whenever the saddle heights are adjusted. When the bridge saddles are higher the string tension has a longer lever arm and will pull the bridge plate up ( so you will need to re-balance by tightening the spring claw) and vice versa of course. Also check my other comment on absolute saddle height implications . By the way Frudua's method seems odd and haphazard to me.
truss rod first, then action and finally the intonation, however id check the truss rod the next day cuz the wood of the neck might take some time to adjust to its new position and therefore might change the action again, in that case readjust the action, intonation should be still fine, mind that you would need an electric tuner to adjust intonation

It took me really less than 3 mins to get the action right which has been puzzling me for 2 years since i built that Warmoth strat. Truly enjoy and like your video lectures on guitar set-up. Cheers, greetings from Hong Kong.
tried this and it works really well nice easy way to set up without all the measuring etc other videos tell you , super easy and with another video i got my homemade strat really dialled in
Thank you! Without a doubt you always have the best advice. It is nice to know that I can now setup all of my own guitars and keep them playing well, this saves me a lot of money on setup and also allows me to buy inexpensive guitars and be able to make them play like a much more expensive models.
Wonderful! successfully lowered my tele action. I used t take it to the local muso store before. Much appreciated.
Your a Legend brother, I been trying to fix this problem for a couple of days and your video answered all my questions. As a new guitar player, I can't tell you how much this means to me. Thank you, Your a real Rockstar 🙏🏽 ❤️ 🍻👑
thank you so much. thanks to your videos i have set up my strat and my ibanez tbh10
i cant even tell you how grateful i am for the clear and awesome videos. even 5 plus years old and you are still the best guitar luthier on here imo. thank you my friend.
I love this! This is exactly what I’ve been looking for, an easy, practical way without the use of any fancy tools! You my friend are a genius!
Very clever yet simple set-up for string action! It should be mentioned that the neck relief must already be set in order for this to work properly.
stringbender57 whats the neck relief?
Frudua, you never disappoint. I owe to you countless hours of guitar repair, thank you!
aaahah great!
Today is November 14, 2021 and in just more than 3 minutes I learned how to adjust the action of my electric guitar. What a great lesson sir keep it up thank you 😁🙏🏻
+1
Pro tip: if you dont have feeler gauges , you can use different gauge guitar picks stacked on top of eachother
This is genius, thanks!
Wow david walliman viewed this! Great youtuber too.
Didn't work for me at all. After doing this, the string was completely pressed against the neck whenever I tried to pick while pressing down the 12th fret, making no noise.
Is my neck too curved?
It doesn't seem that bad with the regular test of pressing down the string.
@@ayushdeshmukh284 Yon need to also adjust the trust rod for it to work.
@@andyspitz2948 My luthier replaced the nut and checked that the frets were even. It cleared the fret buzz/JJ
That's what I was going to type :) Best Regards@
This makes a great reference point.... After that you can find tune it to your own preference... Awesome video. Thank you.
2:53 how to get the lowest possible string action without BAZINGA
Buzzing
xd
@@armanzakwan1898 No, he definitely said bazinga.
@@armanzakwan1898 It was a joke...
Don't make fun of other peoples english when you don't know how to use the language yourself. Start every sentence with a capital letter..
dudeeee this works so well this is the best my strat has ever played
This little trick worked amazingly well. The key is to make sure the credit card is positioned properly at the correct radius of the neck and also as mentioned pluck the strings very lightly. This will definitely get your guitar in the "ballpark". Thanks!
Dude thats the simplest and easiest method I've ever seen thank you 😁😁🤘🤘
This really works. Thanks. Now I can enjoy playing my guitar.
I just did it that way. Perfect!
I checked the credit card during the process and pushed it down while adjusting to be sure it's flat on the fret
This video helped me so much. I just got my strat back from having a setup and the action was way off. Followed this and it plays like butter
Galeazzo, this is absolutely brilliant! Just wish I had seen your video before buying neck radius gauges and an action height ruler. Lei e' un genio! Complimenti!
Thank you for another simple and effective lesson for all of us do it yourself guitar wannabe luthiers. Love your channel.
That’s an awesome and simple method. Just did it on my Fender Strat and it works!! Thanks for sharing this technique!
If you don’t have a capo, just put the credit card over the 15th fret instead of the 12th fret and you will achieve the same results.
Thnx
@@doknox did it work?
@@kumaraditya9187 yes but if you have any uneven frets you have to address that first otherwise buzz like no other.
@16 5 I can usually tell by eye but a notched fret ruler will let you know if the neck is straight or not.
If you don't have a capo sell your guitar, find a high class Call Girl, rent a 5 star hotel room, get the bell hop to find you some coke and be glad you read THIS SENTENCE!!
This looks like a great idea. I'm going to try this out on a guitar I just bought that came with action ridiculously sky high.
glad to see you back helping a noob like myself. 🤘👏
That’s a very good little trick. I really like it!!! No need for radius gauges.
Mr Frudua: this was most helpful - thank you for sharing your expertise here and in your other videos! Grazie!
Genius hack. I'm doing all my guitars now. This works if the truss rod is just right. Just make sure the neck is almost totally straight with just a hint of a bow
Wow, the action on my guitar feels awesome. Sounds great too. Thanks!
THIS IS AWESOME!!!! It worked amazing on my Stratocaster. I always struggled with right action and never got it right. But this method with the credit card really worked for me.
I will use my American Express card, nobody will accept the damn thing, glad to see it come to use.....
You can even use an expired American Express but most guitars require an up to date Visa or Mastercard.
I can't believe how easy that was. I just used this on a guitar kit, I finished putting together, as a quick and dirty setup. Whaddayaknow, it worked!
Great tutorial! Most entertaining part was "adhesive paper". That's creative, I had never heard it that way before
Great video! Absolutely genius! Thank for producing a simple and straight to the point video.
That was amazing. Thank you so much..wish I found this 3 years ago
Man you are a genius!
omg thank you so much! I was having buzzing with my strings, and because I don't have the special card to measure the millimeters, I thought there was no way I could get it right, until I found your video. Once again thank you!.
so I'm guessing u bring the string down until it buzz's then back off a touch
I use this every time and it never fails. Just realized I can leave a tip. Glad to. ...and done.
You are The Master Mr Frudua, thank you so much👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Brilliant! Simple and highly effective. I've been doing it by sight and feel for years. You've shown me how to build a better mousetrap! Cheers
I can see why you had to tune up every time if you lower the string it gets loose and more floppy which means it's not at the correct tension to justify fret buzz
Just tried this, it worked. Thanks Galeazzo. Donation on way.
Bravo! Glad you're back. Thank you.
Just set up my american professional strat! Boo yah! Did truss first then this. Then intonation and now it’s magnificent. FYI I also blocked my floating two post terminals. Two pine wedges I made and it’s a rock solid rock machine that stays in tune very well!
Well that a very interesting and simple way to setup action .... Sure I try this W-E
Many thanks for this good idea !!!
" Thank You ; .... Simple and strait forward tutorial ! "
Do you have a video for acoustic guitar? Thanks bro in advance
Great video! Absolutely genius! Thank for producing a simple and straight to the point video.
This guy is awesome!!!
Grazie Tim!
FANTASTIC method.....thank you so much.

Thanks for the tip, it seems like it would be a good way to do it... I am always amazed how many different techniques that are used like this and not technical or confusing... greatly appreciated!
This man has IQ levels unachievable by normal beings. Great vid
No, you just go along in life "learning," things you don't already know. Life is supposed to be, a learning experience. This isn't brain surgery. ha
I build cigar box guitars. This is a very helpful technique for me to use. We who build CBG's always want to make great playing instruments. Thank you very much.
what should it be the right order to perform a Guitar setup in case you Buy a second hand Guitar?. What comes First? for example:
1.Truss Rod,
2.Strings action,
3.intonation.
Thanks for Your videos Your RUclips channel its great!!.
Thanks man i wasn't sure and had a little doubt about it!.
Make sure its a chromatic tuner if your not using a strobe
This is still helping new players, thanks!
