- Sturgill Simpson devours Freddie King's "Going Down" before ripping into a super-charged "Call to Arms" and T.Rex's "The Motivator" at the Outlaw Country Music Festival on September 21, 2018 at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, MA.
Sturgill Simpson - lead guitar and vocals
Chuck Bartels - bass guitar
Bobby Emmett - keyboards
Miles Miller - drums, percussion, backing vocals
Please support our incredible artists by going out to their live shows, purchasing their records, sharing this video, telling your friends about them, and buying their merch.
Did you know that just one CD or vinyl sale earns more income for an artist than 200 hours of streaming? One $20-$25 album earns about the same as the royalties paid on 5000 track streams.
Want to smoke at playing bass, the way Chuck Bartels does? You actually can.

At that time I didn’t know what I was experiencing. I do now. Soooo glad I filmed this ❤
Good golly... It's fucking gorgeous
So great ❤
He has a new record
@@SeanPlunkett013 a new tour coming up too 👏👏👏
Sturgill is by far in A League of his own creativity. Originality multi-genre
This proves Rock is not dead. It just left LA and NY. It went back home to Detroit, Chicago and Nashville. Awesomely great video.
& Kentucky
Sturgill is Kentucky (so is Chris Stapleton and Tyler Childers)
@@tomschmidt9923 He needs to WRITE that rock and blues (Goin' down is a Willie Dixon song)
@@petebradt going down is Freddie King song. All these guys learned from Black blues pioneers
I found Sturgill through "Call To Arms" on SNL and immediately could see that that stage had NEVER seen that much music in it's life!! Watching the lyrics bring it all to a boil, it was still hard to see him finish off that guitar at the end, but the damned thing needed a break!!! THEN!! I moved on to "Never Go To Town Again" that made me wait for the damned thing to catch fire!!
I was just to the right of Amy that night and you could FEEL this in your bones! Saw him in Hershey PA, at Farm Aid and in Saratoga Springs...Never a lackluster song. Full bore all the time he was on stage! Amazing. I met his drummer and my son met the bass player both thanked us profusely for coming and supporting Live Music. Thanks for Posting!
No keyboards that i saw. Just raw holy shit power trio. Damn that was really filthy!!
This man can flat fu@#ing play! Hands down untouchable right now.
He's been on another level with the guitar since Laur left....he tore this up
He reminds me of...me. Now I'm sure I hate him.
Seen Sturgill live 4 times now and that was on another fucking level! When hes feeling it he goes off on a jam session like hes battling the fucking devil. I need to go to more stu shows never know what version your gonna get.
This man is my new Springsteen for that very reason - every show is different - now if only he would start playing 3 plus hour shows!!
Saw this tour in Cincinnati, Sturgill is at the top of his game. I was blown away by his live performance.
This man is amazing
I see some "THUMBS" that gotta be BROKE....! ! ! ! ! This man is PURE Country Born .
Word. Some people wouldn't know good music if it hit them in the face -- which is EXACTLY what happened.
Beast mode activated!
I love that he can RIP on that guitar, but his song arrangements are constantly evolving into amazing pieces of music with diverse instrumentation.....his fucking brain must have a secondary storage unit
Its great Amy!
Awesome video. I saw him at Hinterland festival in Iowa about a week after this and was just about as close too...he shredded my face off. Can't wait till he starts touring again. Literally. Can't. Wait.
Thanks for watching, AriGOLD. Yeah, I think Hinterland (Aug 3) was about 7 weeks earlier than this Outlaw Festival (Sept 21). Would have loved to have been at Hinterland. Sturgill's off for a while, I think his wife is having their third son, and he is spending the year home with his family. It will make his next tour that much more incredible. I'm with you... I cannot wait either!
Wow what a video! Amy you’re a treasure.
Hell yeah. Good shit. Sturgill & his band really rock.
Hot damn!!!
Wow, thanks for posting! Saw them near Raleigh in 2017, just the four-piece like this. He's an amazing guitarist, etc.
Great show...I was there!!! Thanks for posting!!!
Thank you for watching!
Can’t wait for this summer with Tyler Childers that’s going to be a killer tour!
Joshua Weaver .. I'ma 52 year old Man and I'm bout ta Jump tha fuk outta my skin to be in Charlotte NC next month ! I still can't decide if I should go, sober .or get narrow eyed for the show !!
I've NOT cut my hair and worked out like a demon since we made the plans to go. Oh yeah, my wife's 10 years younger than I and still built like a cheerleader...So I WILL be well adorned and taken care of....
Love the Machinegun quote!
I remember an interview hid did were he said when he moved to Nashville he decided he wasn't a guitar player.when did he decide he was because he sure looks like one to me.
love the Hendrix riff from Machine Gun that he plays at the end
Holy shit!!!!!
Man he’s rippin that Tele
#SturgillForPresident
Rock on!!!!!
Wonder when Sturgill and Warren Haynes will finally join one another on a song? Both are amazing singers/players/writers and both run in the same musical circles.
I'd love to see him sit in with the Mule. Warren needs to send him an invite to Christmas Jam.
As good as it gets...fantastic.
You never saw the Original Who lineup. You know NOTHING.
@@petebradt Have no idea wtf you are talking about...if anything.
Hope you don't mind. This is now in a playlist, that I constantly play! Thank you for the upload!
It's an honor to have you add this video to a playlist, D'Spice -- that is why I film and post these things. I filmed Sturgill's entire set that night-- have you watched the other 5 videos from that performance on my RUclips channel?
You have another Subscriber. I have checked them out. I didn't realize you recorded some them other folks! Thank you for what you do. I only have a couple videos uploaded, but there is some Sturgill in there. The "All Around You" I recorded in Kansas City, my little one caught his pick.
@@hummybee Your videos are great. Thank you for filimng and posting. Awesome about catching Sturgill's pick. Wow. Hold onto it forever.
Exactly
He can Play..
Music business: Rockguitar is dead.
Sturgil Simpson: Hold my beer!
I saw my first show and his last show in Charleston last month. He didn't say much but now we know why. I have been to so many shows and have listened to so many guitarists and I left this show thinking he is the best guitar player I have ever seen. Amazing.
Knowing Sturgill “nah hold my joint”
Pete Townshend: Hold my brandy!
Amy keep believing God and Jesus your friend Rufus Irvin I love you always son.
Saw him and Tyler Childers both nights in Detroit my last two shows before the virus! How are you and yours Amy? I know this must be a hard time for you missing the Live Music! So many shows postponed or cancelled. Thank Buddah for RUclips and videos!
Hey, Mark, yeah this is a difficult time for all of us music lovers. I agree with you -- thank goodness for videos to hold us over until we are all allowed to attend these incredible live shows again. They will be even better when the time comes... we will be so much more appreciative of these incredible artists and their great work. I am hanging in there, and I hope you are too. I'm doing okay. How great that you saw Tyler and Sturgill in Detriot, both shows. Must have been incredible. I had tickets to Philly, Nashville (both nights) and Boston shows, but all of them were cancelled. Super grateful I got to see Sturgill in the UK a couple of weeks before the US tour. I filmed a bunch of videos in the UK, I hope you caught those. Sturgill and his band were absolutely on fire. Sturgill refers to the UK tour as his "rehearsals" for the US Good Look'n tour.
You take good care, Mark, and thank you so much for watching these videos, I really appreciate it. #sturgillsimpson
@@AmyKaribian Glad you are well! I watched most of your UK videos glad you got to attend. Detroit was great as both the keyboard player Bobby Emmet and the bass player Chuck Bartels who we got to talk to again (also at Hershey PA) and is a really nice fella are from there it was a jam! Had tickets for Chicago ...maybe next time!
That’s incredible! It must have been so cool to hang out with Chuck and Bobby.😮
This man sold his soul to the devil.Nobody's this good natural!
Joe Bonnamasa would be proud.
Mundwinkel ganz weit oben!!!!
he needs to play with skynard now
his rhythm section ain't gonna be ditching Sturgill to play in Taylor Swift's band anytime soon
where's his Scandinavian lead guitar player?
Laur Joamets left the band in early March 2017, at which time Sturgill took over playing lead guitar, as he did in his pre-solo career with his band Sunday Valley.
Pretty Good for a Ole Kentucky Boy Isn't he...LOL...
Right On ! ! !
Not impressed I've heard better versions of that at blues jams in Texas
Always a fuck-nuts in every crowd, I guess..
Whatever Colby....
Hey Colby, hope you missed your chance to purchase Taylor Swift Tickets. If you don't like it, just move on and don't comment! That is a thought!!!!
Wish he had a better drummer.
I think Miles is great.
