I could tell he was a little tipsy, but when i asked him if he would sign it 'from Frankenstein' [DeathRace] he instantly paused, & i could see he was looking at how young i was very intently...then he smiled & kindly said he wouldn't sign it 'from Frankenstein', cause 'violence isn't cool', then he signed it, & drew the Chi symbol on it. Something i did not notice at the time: when we see a late teen Grasshopper in the credits, the role, if i'm not mistaken, is played by Keith Carradine, David's younger half brother.
i just watched this clip as that young boy at home living with my parents... hardwood living room floor... sitting crossedlegs and plopped right in front the 1960 something television enjoying this one... i see now the camera work and angles shot for that.. makes it today work as well it did for my young imagination of that time...wow...!

I actually think 70's tv was as good as 60's tv. Not the same thing dressed up different as people liken to music. The thing about Bruce Lee was that apart from his unique mental and physical skills was that he was also an actor and to people like James Coburn a guru/mentor. Would he have really wanted this role? The fact that Kung Fu was not full-on in your face action made it enjoyable. Who wants to see someones stunt double every 5 seconds. Terrific series as were many US tv shows/series

I agree that Kane was supposed to be a peaceful person and Bruce Lee would have never pulled that off.Had the show been about a kick ass fighter who was NOT a peaceful person than I think YES Bruce Lee would have been the right choice.

Bruce Lee did conceive some of the key concepts for the show but they wanted the character to be half-American so as to be accepted by the audience thus Bruce Lee was shown the door. However, seeing how David Carradine played the role, I think Bruce Lee, given his natural intensity, would not have made the character humble enough or have that mystical quality. In short, Carradine's portrayal was more memorable.

Think if Bruce Lee had been in the lead role, with all that he that he was capable of, this would have been a very big show at the time.
