Thank you so much for this detailed guide! I successfully replaced my touchscreen today because of this video. They quoted me $2700 to replace the whole unit, and it cost me less than $27 to do this repair. Brilliant.

This video was amazing!!!! Thank you! I just fixed my broken Jetta radio with this video. Putting the new screen on over the old screen worked perfectly. I'm so grateful. I'm a 60 year old woman and I did it all by myself and it worked perfectly. I'm so happy to have my radio working again. I ordered the screen, torque wrenches and a dashboard removal kit and I had no problems. Thank you thank you Thank you!!!!! Good job!!!

hi there, curious as to where you went for the screen (his link didn't redirect) did you go to ebay or another site. do i need to go to manual for part number? also where did you order the last 2 items (cost) i'm a new 2016 tiguan owner and this is the only thing that's wrong. thanks so much!

You are a life saver. 2017 transporter here. You potentially helped mi to fix 2 issues at once. I had dead zone (right top corner) and hyperactive one (left bottom). it started slowly (i could not use "back" function in certain menu levels for like a year if not more) Left bottom would act up occasionally and it potentially has been going on for months and i mistaken it for faulty IR proximity sensor (if you wave your hand over screen it opens menu at the bottom + locks certain functions). Switching "animation when hand near screen" stopped it so I thought it is IR sensor. Today after replacing screen i noticed that same menu pops up on touching screen - so maybe my hyperactive area was causing it all along.
BTW note to self: If new screen is similar quality to original one i would not use tape to glue it in place - potential trouble in few years..

Very happy with the result! I wasn't sure about putting thre new screen straight over the old one as it made it a lot thinker and not able to click back into the surround. Without another option, I just went with it and in no time at all it was back in the car and working perfectly. Thanks for the vid.

Thank you so much from Australia..
Local VW dealer quoted me AUS $3919 ( $3519 for parts and $400 service fee) to replace it for my 6 years old Caddy. Touch screen stopped working a year ago.
I ended up spending AUS $20 plus 2 hours of my time using this video and another shorter video.
It is now working like a new one. Huge thanks!!!

It all went very smoothly. The touch screen works again, no issues, the back up cam, buttons, etc all work like with no issues. Also key, I did not trigger any airbag or CODES, like airbag, and I did not have to reenter the pin number. Thanks again!

After 6 years of restarting my radio daily, it decided to start power cycling today. I've read all over that this is the fix for it even though the dealership is saying the only option is to replace it (and of course quoted me over $2200).
I'm going to give this a go, so thanks a bunch for sharing this! Even if it doesn't work, $20 is well worth a try.

I watched this video months ago because I was having the same issue and I ordered the replacement screen on Ebay at the time but never got around to fixing it. On Saturday I finally had a couple of hours available in the middle of the day so I went ahead and did the repair exactly as your video and I now have a working touchscreen again. My old one was down to the left third of the screen working. Only thing I regret is I disconnected the battery, to be safe, and now I have an airbag error that won't go away after reconnecting the battery. So now I have to figure out if I can clear that code with my cheap OBD dongle. Thanks again.

You may have forgot to connect the passenger airbag status indicator.
I did not disconnect mine, left it electrically connected but pulled the whole thing from the face panel and then forgot about it...wondering why there is an open slot. I left it that way and use the opening for a usb cable entrance

Your guide is nicely made and good side informations are given - I followed it to the point - but it turned out that the display was afterwards dead as well. (my background is in eletrotechnics / we run a repair café / and I work in the microelectronic industry) I tried 3 more times - no luck.
Radio (receiver and sound) is working but display is black and input over the touch screen was not working..
May be the additional height from the digitizer did break something? All the connectors do look okay.
I ripped the new touch screen from the setup - but the display did not come back to life.
Appreciate Ideas on how to fix it or on what to check.. Thanks

Works like a charm. Mine had a bunch of sticky junk on the bottom of the screen. I don't know if a glue in the original screen melted or someone spilled a sugary drink all over the screen at one point. The original touch screen stopped working when it was hot. At night for a few minutes it worked until the screen light itself heated it up. Now it works like new.

I just took a best guess since the documentation, part numbers, description...it was all over the board with chinesium conversion factors...so I ordered two and they both would work..and it was not expensive to find out...considering the alternative. VW should step up and make a way available to have the equipment refurbished butt they would rather you suffer. I decided to never buy another VW

When you had the screen completely exposed, you simply inserted the new screen OVER the old one? It doesn't look like you removed the existing screen unless I missed something. Please help!
