There is this new wireless rechargeable battery mod for gba and i feel you should have a look at it. Here is a video about it ruclips.net/video/4YVQiYM82ts/видео.html
You're editing, framing, and choice of music is next level. Pair that with a detailed review of a product that allows us to see it compared to other options really shows the quality of your channel. I wait for each vid and know your channel will continue to grow. Keep innovating and keep kicking ass
The push pin method was pure gold! I was thinking to use a drill but that probably wouldn't have been as precise. Turned out great! I used a push pin,a small round file and a carpet knife.
The battery life definitely impressed me! It's hard to believe the flash cards use up all that power! I guess that gives physical collectors a good reason to own physical copy's of there favorite games :)
Macho Nacho Productions try out the Everdrive GBA X5 Mini, battery consumption is apparently much better than the Ez flash, albeit still worse than a regular game cart. I'd guess around 8-8.5 hrs based on the test in the vid.
Bro Macho, you are one of the most amazing creators I have found recently. Your video production and quality is top notch while also being about awesome tech. You deserve like 1 million subscribers at the least. Can’t wait for more people to find you! Keep up the great work!
Great video again! That's a very interesting modification. The benefits of not producing waste, being able to use any phone charger and charging while playing (without losing your progress) outweigh the shorter playing time compared to alkaline batteries by far, in my opinion. By the way - that intro is the best I ever saw on any retro gaming youtube channel.
Thank you Saul! It took me a while to create the intro! So glad you enjoy it! I agree this mod is great compared to disposable batteries and it has some definitely advantages over rechargeable AAs. But there are some benefits to rechargeable AAs as well. I'm just happy we have so many options! Cheers buddy!
Finally a test for these Lithium battery mods, I was waiting to see if they are worth the investment, but I guess I'll stick to my NiMH batteries for now. Thank you so much for this, your channel is great.
Thank you Gregory! Glad the video was informative! I’d say that’s one of the great things about the original GBA is that we have some pretty good options for batteries. NiMH is a great and cost effective option! Cheers!
The only real benefit this thing gives you is that you can plug the USBC in and charge while playing whereas if your batteries die your battery is die. On all my old systems that have a power plug I just use that instead of dealing with batteries at all. I don't play them outside my house so its no big deal to me to be connected to a wall.
chefs kiss on that batt door mod! i wouldve made a paper template and then scribed it on and used a craft knife to cut away but your method would make it so much easier
Great choice! These batteries are great! I also did a comparison video showing both the retro modding and the handheld legend/RetroSix batteries. You can check that out to see which one you want. Cheers and best of luck on the mod!
just got my very first GBA yesterday and wanted to try out some mods. I have no experience with anything like this and have always been worried about breaking my systems. these look super easy to install and I'm actually looking forward to doing so!
I like the minimal case destruction of this mod and ease of reverting back to regular batteries. I might even 3d print a battery cover with usb c opening. So I went to order one and... "You are currently #218 on the list of 218 people." in line to buy. Doh!
Thanks to your guides I was able to modify my GBA, I never thought I’d be able to mod anything in my life but you made it simple and easy to understand, I’ve already replaced the shell and buttons on my GBA and also got a IPS screen, I just ordered the battery on Amazon and I’m waiting for it to arrive. Thank you for teaching me to make my childhood Gaming system better than I remember. At this point I’m going to give my PimpBoy (it has a wooden shell and gold buttons, my absolute pride and joy) to my kids to make sure they grow up playing proper games and not this modern day cashgrab nonsense. You are my Retro Hero
Thanks for the guide, this actually looks much easier than the backlit screen mod (I’m still working on getting the basics before I try and add the backlit screen in) but this was really helpful to show it’s not as hard as I thought
I LOVE that they have this, but haven't you guys ever thought, it would be nice if they had THIS kind of tech for TV remotes or other devices? I would love one for my fire stick remote and my TV remote
I considered doing this, but then I thought "what's the point?" I bought an 8 pack of NiMH 2800maH batteries and a charger for $20 and it lasts longer on a pair of the batteries than this would between charges. AND I can just swap in 2 batteries while the spent ones are recharging. I couldn't see paying $60 for this.
Totally agree, NiMH batteries work great! I have a bunch of them as well that I use for things around the house as well as my portable consoles. It’s a fantastic option. I think these lithium ion options are pretty good too. Cheers dude!
I agree, but for me personally I already use NiMH rechargeables for about 20 different things at this point lol, mostly old film camera equipment, so anything that I can convert to rechargable is a blessing for me lol
Great video once again! :) This is such an easy mod but brings along huge improvements. 5:25 a note for anyone who has a dremmel that this would take 2 seconds with one. But appreciate the method you showed as not everyone does. Keep up the amazing editing and productions! Thank you.
P.S I hope you don't mind some critism but the intro is rather loud sometimes compared to the rest of the video and find myself messing with the volume. Not a big deal but thought I would mention none the less. Nether the less 10/10 video!
No worries Zorbcck, criticism is always welcome. It's how we improve. I will say that audio is one of this things I am continuing to try and improve upon. I often end up with sounds files that vary in volume and I try to correct it in post production. It's been a learning process for me. I will continue to try and improve the audio! Cheers buddy!
Nice, with the testing from the plain disposable AAs for a control, this is some quality content. I went this a different USB C battery mod from retro six/handheld legend for my ISP v2 GBA. 1700mah but I've never given it the time lapse test. It also lacks the low battery LED on the PCB life this Retro Modding battery.
I really appreciate that you did a battery life test with the EZ-Flash! I love using my modded backlit GBA to play but if I am using regular batteries and my EZ-Flash I get maybe 2-4 hours out of each set of batteries. I will definitely be investing in a rechargeable battery, especially since it's so much easier to install than I would have thought😄
But a the same time, the individual double aa batteries let you swap them whenever you need so don't need to plug in to a wall when you're low on battery, so i think each option has it's pros and cons
@@looeegee people don't seem to understand just having rechargeables in the house usually outweighs built in lithium imo. Try having this argument with a ps fanboy as to why you think the Xbox controller is a smarter idea and they break down fast and go full stupid.
I agree that each has their pros and cons and that built in can be a huge pain. It seems to me that this mod is a best of both (correct me if I'm wrong) since the battery pack looks easily removable and it doesn't look too difficult to add a removable divider (if it is even needed) and put in AA (alkaline or Li-ion). Also correct me if I'm mistaken again but looks like it will fit just as well in a GBC. I'm buying this as I'm typing.
Didn't realize they'd put out a USB-C revision of the battery pack. I've got 4 modded GBAs (3 done myself, the last one bought pre-built from Retro Modding) & they all use the Micro USB connector. I'd ask you to compare the 2 revisions of the battery pack for things like charge time, and any possible battery life differences, but not only do I think they'd be negligible, I also don't think you'd be able to get one of the older battery packs at this point. Now, if only someone would make a rechargeable pack for the GBC that's *THIS* simple to install. I still have my childhood Teal GBC & my grandmothers Purple (Reshelled because no way in HELL was I cleaning out all the baby powder & make-up residue (she kept it in the bathroom)) GBC & I'd like t give them this last upgrade to "Modern" status.
The difference between the EZ flash and an official cart is insane. Really makes me wonder if the larger power draw will have a negative effect on the GBA overtime in a similar way that cheaper flash carts can cause damage to other consoles. Great work as always.
I remember when the GBA was relatively new there were rechargable batteries that just replaced the cover and had a port integrated. How's that for impressively easy?
Looks like a good one. I got the unbranded one from RetroGameRepairShop that I just installed, but I'm really bothered by how far it is from the cover, I had to make a bigger cover to accommodate for the USB-C charger's plastic. Makes me kinda regret not getting this one instead
At $40 I really can't justify this over just using some Eneloops but I really hope one is able to be developed for the Pocket as about 2 hours on medium brightness leaves a lot to be desired!
Totally agree dude! Rechargeable eneloops is a fantastic option. I also agree that we need a decent battery pack for the pocket. AAA batteries are just too limiting. Cheers!
I have seen other batteries for controllers that come with their own battery door that already has a cutout for the charging so it would be cool if this could come with that. Some of them are all in one unit where the battery door is connected to the battery though that may be too much to ask.
Honestly i just cant seem to get behind this mod. I just ordered an ips display but I would rather use my energizer rechargeable batteries. Bring an extra set with me and boom I have 20 hours of gba fun which is more than enough haha. But great vid as always!
Great video and channel (went here after My Life in Gaming episode). Just wanted to comment that background music is way too loud and distracting during the video. I think overall the video would be better with less volume (a lot less).
Great vid. And can't belive how well you did your hole. Mine was not so neat so spent £3 on a pre cut one. Results are the same as my retro 6 one which I tested after your last vid. Tho that mod does not have the on off switch.
This is a really nice mod. It's a shame that with batteries shipping restrictions it's hard to get them from retro modding in my country. Having the USB C port available at all times means it's way easier now to have the gba as the travel console with a power pack and the regular everyday usb c cable. No more AA recharging Bricks.
Huh, I thought this guy was blowing smoke up my ass when he said the EZ Flash Omega would eat batteries, but honestly I could see easily going through a set or more per day
Apparently the all new EZ Flash Omega Definitive Edition has much better battery life. I can't confirm personally but from all of the videos and things that I've seen this is what it all points to.
Macho Nacho Productions I hope you make a video on how to remove the lcd screen from the housing. I could really use some inspiration for housing swapping
Madblaster6 it will certainly be challenging. The adhesive in the FunnyPlaying kits are quite strong. It’ll probably involve a heat gun and a lot of patience in order to remove. On the plus side, if damaged, they are reasonably inexpensive to replace. Cheers!
A single Eneloop AA is rated for a minimum of 1900mAh, and a nominal 2000mAh (or more, if you're lucky). And, two of them in series should be at least 3800mAh capacity. Why not save $25 and get an 8-pack (over 15000 mAh!) of Eneloops? Otherwise, your comment on the form factor and chemistry of cylindrical cells seems... baseless? What am I missing? (Also, looks like the latest revision of this battery pack is now rated for 1700mAh, for clarity, though still far below the capacity of two series Eneloop cells)
Otherwise, great video as always! Your narration is always clear and easy to understand, and your install demos are always well illustrated and easy to follow! Really appreciate your channel.
Awesome Video the retro modding kit looks very nice. I couldn’t get one so I went with the handheld legend one. Did you by any chance do a test at max brightness? I play mine outside a lot so I crank the brightness.
I am planning to look at the HHL one too at some point. Looks like a really nice kit also! I would have done a test at full brightness but ran out of time. I may do a dedicated GBA battery test video with a whole bunch of different batteries at various brightness setting. We shall see! Cheers!
Which firmware version of the Omega were you using? Also, the Omega has an option to turn off RTC for games that don't use it, so it can help with power consumption for the vast majority of games. Maybe you could re-run the tests with RTC off?
I am currently running FW: 7 K:1.06. That’s really interesting, the Real Time Clock is set to Open which I assume is on. I wonder how much of a difference it will make. I may run a test on this in the future. I need to check to see if I’m running the latest firmware too. Can’t remember if I ever updated it. Thank you for the insight on this! Very helpful! Cheers buddy!
So question sir. I have done a couple of these mods. But everytime the red light stays on and its hard to keep the green light on even on a full charge? Any ideas please? Or anyone else have this issue? Will this fix that? I noticed no problems on yours..
Nivel video Dude, I am interested in making that modification to save me having to buy batteries Can you tell me the name of that module you used? Please
Hola, Tito! Can we use the new iPad Air’s 20W USB-C charger and cable for this battery? I would not like to spend in a new one having that lil boy. In the product information it says “compatible with most of actual phone chargers” but, you know, it is Apple... xD I have decided to buy one of these because my EZ Flash drains my AA batteries way more than I expected lmao.
Maybe I'm blind, but I scrolled pretty far down, but didn't see a question asked.... How long does it take this battery to fully charge from dead? Personally, I use Eneloop batteries for most of my stuff, so Just wondering what the charge time would be. I have a 7 year old, so batteries tend to have to be recharged a lot, and it's very common to pick up a device, only to find the batteries are dead. and giving up 30 minutes of play time is MORE than worth it, just because you can play with it plugged in, or just plug it in when done, and always have a full charge, like I do with the SP ( Or I should say, when the kid remembers to give it back to me, so I can put it back on the charger....)
Great question! If I remember correctly, I believe the stated time for a full recharge is 2.5 hours. I've done it a few times but haven't recorded my results, but that sounds about right. I really like the Eneloop option as well as I quite a few and rotate them as necessary, but than can be difficult I suppose with toddler, haha! I hope that helps answer your question. Cheers!
Good to know Lee. I was so shocked! I had no idea it was that bad. Pretty crazy. I wonder if there are more efficient flash carts. Perhaps krikzz? Cheers!
@@leecollins5479 all the everdrive I see are massive as well and stick out of the gba which is a deal breaker for me. I belive they have a micro one now but not seen it anywhere for sale in the UK.
I was watching your GBA SP wireless charge mod. I was wondering if you’ve thought of combining this mod with that one? If that’s something that can be done.
Can this be modified any way to be used in a Game Boy Color? Because the only option I see there is where you have to solder a charging port to the motherboard have a Game Boy Color
if i have a shell thats molded already for this type of battery, do i still need to remove the battery contacts or can i juat leave them in and put battery in?
I'm not sure how many mAh the RetroModding has, but according to RetroSix, their CleanJuice Battery is 1700mAh. Also, one of the obvious differences between them is that you don't need to remove the battery contacts with the CleanJuice mod. Another thing: if you're thinking of doing an amp mod, RetroSix's CleanAmp should work well with the CleanJuice pack. Since according to RetroSix, the low buzzing sound you hear when you install any amp has something to do with the power conductor ringing. He's currently doing more revisions on the Amp as well to draw less power. But there's also an issue with the current batch of CleanJuice mod. The battery LED on the GBA mobo doesn't show when the battery is already low. So if you plan on buying one, I would hold off on that and just wait until the nest revision is released.
@@Jp_116 I have the retro 6 one and battery life us similar. U don't have to remove the contacts no and it wiks fine but it fits much better if u do remove them.
Hey JP! The Retro Modding one I think is 1400 mAh. Not having to remove the battery contacts is a really nice feature1. I didn't know that about the retorsix. Thanks for providing all this information about the RetroSix battery! I'm really excited to try it out! Cheers buddy!
@@MachoNachoProductions happy to provide information. Your videos are really awesome! Love the quality of all of them. Would like to see you doing comparison of amp mods next.
Hello sir, I'm in search for some answer, sorry to bother a bit out of topic here but, Do you think is possible to make an upgrade on the android version of the Razer Kishi v1 cointroller from only charge type c to type c 2.0 at least? that way we might be able to connect an external display? like with an adaptor? MHL supported of course

Cheers!
He didn’t mention this in the vid but the battery also weighs less than eneloops. Which I enjoy during longer gaming sessions.
Thank you for letting us know Douglas! Great info! Thank you, cheers!
Wanted to try this out but I saw that they were sold out hopefully they’ll make more and I can try it!
I have seen other batteries for controllers that come with their own battery door that already has a cutout for the charging so it would be cool if this could come with that. Some of them are all in one unit where the battery door is connected to the battery though that may be too much to ask.
you should get one of those magnetic type c adapters
Such awesome videos
Thank you Rubidium! Which one is your favorite? Cheers buddy!
Honestly i just cant seem to get behind this mod. I just ordered an ips display but I would rather use my energizer rechargeable batteries. Bring an extra set with me and boom I have 20 hours of gba fun which is more than enough haha. But great vid as always!
This exactly.
Great video and channel (went here after My Life in Gaming episode). Just wanted to comment that background music is way too loud and distracting during the video. I think overall the video would be better with less volume (a lot less).
Welcome to the channel, Obloms! Glad you’re here! Thanks for the comment. I’ll look into that! Cheers!
Great vid. And can't belive how well you did your hole. Mine was not so neat so spent £3 on a pre cut one. Results are the same as my retro 6 one which I tested after your last vid. Tho that mod does not have the on off switch.
Haha, thank you! The retro 6 one looks really good too! I’m planning on checking that out as well! I think both are great options! Cheers bud!
hi, great video as always, too bad these batteries are out of stock a while ago, I hope they bring more.
Thanks Dave! I'm sure they'll get more out soon, there is a lot of interest in these for sure! Cheers bud!
I think batteries gives the optimal peerformance after about ten recharging cycles....so i think that's good.
Just came from lastest content from tito, the vibes is kinda different
The permanent marker works because the battery cover is clear, but how would you recommend going about trimming the cover if it's a solid color?
This is a really nice mod. It's a shame that with batteries shipping restrictions it's hard to get them from retro modding in my country. Having the USB C port available at all times means it's way easier now to have the gba as the travel console with a power pack and the regular everyday usb c cable. No more AA recharging Bricks.
BTW That Chronno Trigger cart in the end... such elegance.
Sorry to hear that buddy. Hopefully those restrictions will get relaxed. Cheers bud!
Thanks man! One of my all time favorite RPGs!
I wanted this for my PS2 wireless controller 😢 I'll wait until you get on stock again
Huh, I thought this guy was blowing smoke up my ass when he said the EZ Flash Omega would eat batteries, but honestly I could see easily going through a set or more per day
muy buena calidad de video 👌👍
Muchas Gracias SiriuxST!
Apparently the all new EZ Flash Omega Definitive Edition has much better battery life. I can't confirm personally but from all of the videos and things that I've seen this is what it all points to.
Thanks for the great vid. My OCD is killing me with the uncut screen on the housing.
Haha me too! I need to fix that ASAP! Cheers dude!
Cheers!
but can you play while it charges a dead battery? That could be a selling feature.. if it works.
I’d like to try that!
You should! It’s a pretty easy mod!
Hey Tito i was wondering, what is your opinion about retro modding rechargeable battery pack vs retro renew rechargeable battery pack
Nivel video
Dude, I am interested in making that modification to save me having to buy batteries
Can you tell me the name of that module you used? Please
I'm thinking of getting this tbh
Do it! You won’t be disappointed! Cheers!
Hola, Tito!
Can we use the new iPad Air’s 20W USB-C charger and cable for this battery? I would not like to spend in a new one having that lil boy.
In the product information it says “compatible with most of actual phone chargers” but, you know, it is Apple... xD
I have decided to buy one of these because my EZ Flash drains my AA batteries way more than I expected lmao.
Cheers!
I don’t get it. How does it transfer energy if you didn’t solder it together. I didn’t see you fit any plugs together either?
Hi Tito! the ez flash is a real power drain,i wasnt suprised at the results.i have the same ez flash and gba case.
Good to know Lee. I was so shocked! I had no idea it was that bad. Pretty crazy. I wonder if there are more efficient flash carts. Perhaps krikzz? Cheers!
Macho Nacho Productions an Everdrive GBA X5 consumes about half the power of an EZ Flash Omega.
I love the everdrives! They're just so expensive. But I suppose you get what you pay for. Thank you for the info! Cheers!
@@MachoNachoProductions i knew they where a bit power hungry but the results where shocking
@@leecollins5479 all the everdrive I see are massive as well and stick out of the gba which is a deal breaker for me. I belive they have a micro one now but not seen it anywhere for sale in the UK.
How would you mark the part on the battery door that needs to be taken out if the door is a solid color and not translucent like yours?
When you are charging is the green light on, and when it's fully charged is off? Thanks!
You're easy to impress.
What color is your shell? Glacier?
I bought one of these and I've been trying to figure out why I couldn't get it to work.
Didn't know there was an on switch. Whoops.
next: wireless charger please
Im def working on it! I think it would be a very cool mod! Cheers buddy!
A normal high-speed phonecharger (like redminote 8t) is good for that battery? Isn't too powerfull?
I was watching your GBA SP wireless charge mod. I was wondering if you’ve thought of combining this mod with that one? If that’s something that can be done.
I’d say it is possible but space will be the biggest issue.
I still don't understand how the device get energy by just putting the battery in... I didn't see how the battery makes contact with the device
Can this be modified any way to be used in a Game Boy Color? Because the only option I see there is where you have to solder a charging port to the motherboard have a Game Boy Color
I love gameboy
Me too! Cheers!
Just order a clean juice from retro six they drop right
The gameboy color also takes two double a so can this work on it as well?
if i have a shell thats molded already for this type of battery, do i still need to remove the battery contacts or can i juat leave them in and put battery in?
Would a switch usb c charge work with this or would the voltage be too high for it?
Hi! Where can I purchase the battery contacts if I want to reverse this mod? Thank you :)
What is the difference between the RetroModding Battery pack and the RetroSix CleanJuice Battery pack?
I’m hoping to find out soon! Need to get my hands on one! I think they are both great options! Cheers!
