My mother would make a burn salve from the plantain. It works like magic, I got burnt by flaming crayon wax, when I was 11, it dumped on my leg. I did not shave my 11 yr old legs so there was plenty of hair for the wax to stick to. My parents scrapped the wax off after they got me to sit and stop screaming. It left a big blister bigger than a silver dollar. I did not go to the doctor and To this day I do not have a scar and all the hair grew back.
I'm from the Philippines and Moringa's (called Malunggay) main medicinal purpose is to be fed to pregnant women in order to increase and add nutrient density to their breast milk production. The leaves are usually cooked as a vegetable in stews, about 0.5-1 oz of leaves per serving, and eaten every day throughout pregnancy. In public knowledge Malunggay, as a medicinal plant, increases breast milk production and nutrition in extreme amounts and, if I am not wrong, in the social and agricultural space is known as a 'giver of life' mostly because it is so abundantly and cheaply available (while also being nutrient dense, almost a complete food).
Oh Suzanne, I am so happy to hear that you like this! I'll be following up this video with a series of Master Recipes for making all sorts of medicinal herbal preparations. Stay tuned! ;-) Love, Mary
Thank you for sharing your expertise. I also want to compliment you on how wonderful your channel is. You always are very thoughtful to include links to previous episodes and all the other helpful information associated with your videos. All RUclipsrs should take a hard look at how you set up this channel. Hugs.
You deserve an honorary doctorate for these videos Mary! Love your channel. I purchased a Tower Garden last month which is an aeroponics growing system. Right now I'm growing all kinds of greens and herbs. I think I should throw some medicinal plants in there as well. I don't have anywhere else to grow right now because I'm living in a small apartment until I build. What a great investment this Tower Garden has been. My greens are so tender and nutrient-dense. Plus, it looks beautiful in my kitchen. I had friends over for dinner last weekend and cut leaves for salads that were fantastic and everyone thought this growing machine was amazing! I've had better results with this than growing outside. No pests, uses over 90% less water, and because it's a vertical system the footprint is only 3 sq ft. This holds around 32 plants and is perfect for my needs in my little 350 sq ft apartment. I eat a lot of fresh produce so this should pay for itself within 18 months or less. I keep an extremely well-stocked pantry but having fresh food is essential for good health. I'm so committed to this aeroponics system and because we live in uncertain times, I even purchased an Inergy solar generator in case there are power disruptions. Anyone interested in a solar generator through Inergy may want to look into purchasing quickly because they're 20% off during presale. It's the lightest-weight solar generator on the market with excellent reviews.
Wow!! First, thank you so much for the VERY kind and generous words!! And also thank your so much for sharing a little bit about your life and experiences with the tower garden! And thanks for the tip on Inergy! Love, Mary
I love this series! Mullein! Yes, it is a fabulous respiratory herb and loves to grow in rocky, poor soil. The leaves are great for respiratory conditions but, if you make tea, be sure to strain well through a cloth as the tiny hairs irritate the throat. Tinctures are my favorite choice of herbal medicines, as they work fast and it's fairly easy to make tinctures ahead and have them labeled and ready when ill health strikes, as sometimes we don't even feel well enough to make tea. Mullein can also be smudged or smoked in a tobacco pipe. Mullein flowers can be dried, then steeped in a good oil (not coconut, as it goes solid when cool) for a few weeks, strain off the liquid, and use for earaches. Some people add garlic to this as well, but I haven't. Mullein root can be tinctured and used both internally and topically for back pain. Great video!! God bless.
Whew! I finally made it here! I was sitting down to watch this this morning and my son showed up with the chicken coop he built; more like parts. ☺️ We had fun putting it together. Thank you for the reminder of the Tulsi and feverfew. More seeds to start! I'd like to mention that when I quit smoking, I first started by swapping out some of the tobacco with herbs like oatstraw, lobelia and mullein. It worked Very well! Thank you again for this series, Mary! ✝️💜
Another informative, helpful, and easy to understand video. I so appreciate not only the work you put into each video but most of all, you freely share your knowledge and don’t charge for classes or seminars. Thank you for making this available to everyone! God bless.
I have used Moringa for a couple of years now for my arthritis in my hands and wrists. I went from having sore hands waking me up at nite to very little pain at all. I started buying bottles of capsules on Amazon until I was sure it worked, and it did. Now I buy the finely qround moringa on Amazon in the 1 pound bags and a bag of 1000 gel capsules then put it in gel caps using a 100 capsule filling kit from Herb Affair to make my own capsules. This stuff is great, thank you for all your great video's.
I love basil! It's terrific in sauces and dressing, but I like to eat the leaves while I'm standing at the plant. And feverfew is the best for my migraines. Mint and feverfew works well for my son.
Hello and love from Finland! Recently I found your channel and it is amazing! You make really quality content. I live in an apartment and you have inspired me to start a balcony garden. Thank you and stay well!
You will love being able tovwalk out on your. Balcony to harvdst FRESH FOOD AND OR HERBS. HELLO FROM THE US MARY IS SURELY INDPIRSTIONAL AND DELIGHT TO WATCH.
Thank you sweet Mary, really enjoyed this and the previous video on 10 essential herbs. Could listen to you forever. I love growing herbs. Rosemary and lavender my absolute favourite for their smell. St John’s Wort is also a very powerful herb I have found. I have underactive thyroid, and have suffered many symptoms as a result. St John’s Wort is the only herb that really helps me with my symptoms.
Hi Mary! You are amazing! Thank you for all of your hard work and your fantastic attitude! I am in New England near the NH line and will be planting my little herb garden this week and am looking forward to it--mostly because of learning from you about your wonderful activities! You are quite an inspiration to me! I wanted to start an herb garden as a young woman but life got in the way! Now as a grandmother I have time and the interest to do so!
Love this series! Have already started some of these herbs under my grow lights. Thank you for the book recommendations. Research on my part will be needed but will enjoy a good night's sleep with your teas, and help with migraines. Thank you.
Just found Rose Mary's book on my library's site. I can't wait to read this. Also, Rose Mary also helps with memory. I put Rose Mary oil in my diffuser when I am homeschooling my boys. Also, besides Sage helping with colds and flu Organo is really good for colds and flu as well. It is awesome for sore throats.
I have a dwarf moringa from Baker Creek that grows well in my 4b zone.😊 I have ragweed allergies and have never heard fever few could trigger them... thank you! I was considering growing it in a far off corner since it repels bees/pollinators but nope not going to. 💜 God Bless!
I used to live in north Dallas and the grandmother of a woman I dated there had a huge rosemary bush. That bush survived all winter long. Do you think she had a specific rosemary that was rated for cold or do you think it was it's size? It was huge.
I love mullein. It grows everywhere here in the Hills. It's so tall and stately in its flowering year. Just an amazing plant. I've never needed it medicinally, but it has many uses in addition to the respiratory-plus it's just such a fascinating plant with its big, soft, fuzzy leaves and its woody flower stalk. The forest "service" came around to spray invasive tansy a few years ago but the guys they sent clearly didn't know what tansy was. 🙄 They killed a bunch of mullein and even some aspen trees. 🤷♀️ Mullein always comes back, tho. So does tansy. 😂
Also penny royal mint and raspberry leaf in teas. These were used by the “wise woman “ to empty the contents of the uterus. Raspberry leaf tea however is sometimes used during Labour to get contractions going, but if pregnant steer clear of these two ❤️
My doctor had me drink red raspberry leaf tea toward the end of my pregnancy to prevent hemorrhage and blood clots during childbirth (after difficult first delivery). Second delivery went well. Raspberry tea? Maybe.
Plantain is the best thing I have ever used for poison ivy. I break a leaf into and rub the juice over the infected area. Rarely do I have to do this a second time.
Thanks for sharing. I wish I had known about ways to dry up breast milk after Thomas passed. It sucked I still produced milk for months after he was gone. I set up the child tracker we got for Dad. It has arrows and map as well updates on where the device is. It can only be removed with a special tool. Think I will order the belt that fits that system since he won't always carry his backpack or wear a jacket. His lower pants usually doesn't have pockets. The undershirt that fits it may be too many layers in the hot weather. I have trouble getting Daniel to keep on his shirt on those days.
I already have basil, rosemary, and sage that I have been working to increase for the past several years. This year, I am working to add moringa. I have a few little seedlings I'm anxious to transplant. But I've also been watching some videos of people who live in Phoenix who've been able to grow them outside directly from seed. It's all a slow, focused process. I need to look back through your series to see if you've touched on yarrow. I had planted some in my garden at my previous home but have yet to get it started here.
WOW! You are doing great. Keep us posted on how the Moringa is going. When my husband and I have been over in Arizona from time to time, we have seen lots of Moringa trees! It's amazing how easy they grow there. Love, Mary
@@MarysNest BTW, I keep thinking we knew each other in the HS community when I lived in Burnet County with my oldest. I truly miss all y'all. The HS community isn't as established here in NW AZ as it is in central TX. But one thing I learned there - if you and your kids need or want something in the community and it's not there, work to establish it. So that's what my youngest and I will work toward.
Hi Mary! I was going o write a comment on the other video adding these. LOL I would a squawberry/patridgeberry (or forage for it) for pregnant and menstrual women.
Using plantain for stings reminds me of the novel The Hunger Games when Katniss and Rue chewed up a plant to put on their stings from the tracker jackers.
I honestly didn't have an issue growing it from seed. I cant root things to save my life .......I know this is 8 months old but thought I'd comment anyways.
Rosemary - so great to just go into the tunnel or greenhouse and rum the plant and the dog and I feel so good with that smell. I also use it with roasting a chicken. I have no problem with mine freezing - even though the temps went down to single digits this winter - but slightly warmer in the greenhouse - not a lot. :-( My rosemary keeps getting bigger and bigger and is now in TWO big growing bags - not just one. But, my royal basil went down - no thanks to the oregano that over took it.
I have an idea Mary! How about we guess how many aprons you have in your stash!! Then the one who guesses correctly wins one!!😂 I loooooove your aprons. They are all so beautiful and they always go hand in hand with your videos. So cool!❤️
Hi Rob, So happy you liked this info! So many great herbs to grow!! And guess where I am working today...in the garden!! And thanks to you, I have lots of seeds!! You are your family are SO sweet to think of us down here in Texas. I have a video coming out next Saturday where I show the state of my garden after we cleaned up after the storm. Not much left, so I am starting from scratch - more or less. I talk about you in the video and your generous gift of seeds! Love and God Bless to the SG family, Mary
@@MarysNest So happy you got those and can enjoy time in the garden. I hated seeing the damage to your garden after that ice storm. Looking forward to seeing the garden updates. God bless, Rob
Mary , apparently I started your herb series in the middle but in the stores I am always the one going "up the down stairs " Do you have a favorite variety of rosemary and are you using a dehydrator to dry your herbs ?
Hi Yvonne, You are too cute!! I actually am not fussy when it comes to Rosemary. I grow both the upright and the prostrate but as to variety, I don't have any specifics. In case you are looking for the other herb videos, here is my playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLkRuW3pBo2U3eCyTEJqM_wyfxWl-E1b08 As to drying herbs - the nice thing is that you really don't need any special equipment. You can certainly use a dehydrator but it's not required. Here I show different ways to dry herbs: ruclips.net/video/kurppVv40V4/видео.html (This was actually part of my dehydrating series but I also added it to my herb series playlist.) Hope this helps. So glad you're here!! Love, Mary
@@MarysNest Thanks , Mary . I love rosemary but I don't think they are all suitable for cooking . I read somewhere "Tuscan Blue " was . I wondered if there was another variety that might be tasty . P.S I have a lot of rosemary except the prostrate type . I can remember going from the airport in San Francisco and seeing the prostrate variety in abundance .
Hey there, I had seen You did one of The vid IQ courses , I have been thinking about it , Would you recommend it? May I ask:) It has been great watching you grow as a channel:)
I love your channel. Check out Medical Medium healing broth. The bone broth dehydrates and fermented drinks like ACV and kombucha turn our blood acidic. Fermentation was a survival tool, not a health tool unfortunately. I loved making my own kombucha but gave it up once I learned this. I adore your channel but wanted to share these in case they are of help.
This isn't about herbs but I saw your extract videos how would you make banana extract would you use raw bananas or would you dehydrated the bananas first then add in the alcohol or veg. g? stuff. To make your extract
I eat a lot of coconut. It keeps pretty long, but does need some protection from light and oxygen. I bought a lot of different forms of it for storage in big containers. Unlike almond flour, the flour does not need to be frozen - BUT, if you are talking about years - I would definitely protect it in storage or freeze it.
My sincere thanks to Dr Oseghale Sunday Herbal Home for helping me cure my Hsv1 and 2, I was at the point of giving up but thank God I meant your recommendation He's truly a life changer.
Wonderful! So happy to hear this. I'll be following this up with some videos on how to make Master Recipes for all sorts of medicinal herbal preparations! Stay tuned! ;-) Love, Mary
@@MarysNest thatd be great! cant wait! would also be interesting to see you make salves an other stuff with the herbs! if youre interested only of course

Hi Jean, I am so sorry about that. Yes, it must have been hard. My heart goes out to you. As always, thanks for all the updates. Love, Mary
Hi Mary. If I buy herbs should I take them straight out of the package and put them in jars? Will they go bad leaving them in the original package?
I only grow Moringa and cannabis. Works for me.
Mary, thank you. I truly enjoy your videos)
Oh wow thanks for this Mary!
Hi Lisa, You are so welcome! Love, Mary
It also has a taproot, when replanting cut the taproot and you’ll have better success.
I have tried like the dickens to root rosemary cuttings and I have never gotten it to root at all. If you have any tips, I'd love to hear about them!
I honestly didn't have an issue growing it from seed. I cant root things to save my life .......I know this is 8 months old but thought I'd comment anyways.
Thank you, thank you, Mary . I appreciate your details.
So cool!❤️
Oh Debbie! You are so sweet!! And I love your idea!! LOL!! Love, Mary
@@MarysNest Christmas is just a few short months away!!!😂😂😂❤️

Thank you Mary we need this information now
Do you ever get bugs in your flour pasta or spices? How do I avoid this from happening?
Great information, Mary. We grow all these except for feverfew. Will have to order some with your link today.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Rob
God bless,
Rob
I am looking forward to ways to utilize rosemary
How long will these herbs stay fresh on the shelf?
I buy all dried herbs I don’t grow from Mountain Rose Herbs.
Thank you 🤗
When ordering herbs from mountain rose herbs what is the shelf life of the herbs
Hey there, I had seen You did one of The vid IQ courses , I have been thinking about it , Would you recommend it? May I ask:) It has been great watching you grow as a channel:)
Thank you 💛
excellent
Thanks!
Hi sweet Mary. Thanks for the information. Peace Zeena.
Hi Zeena, You are so welcome! Love, Mary
Can mullein be added to the honey cough remedy?
I love your channel. Check out Medical Medium healing broth. The bone broth dehydrates and fermented drinks like ACV and kombucha turn our blood acidic. Fermentation was a survival tool, not a health tool unfortunately. I loved making my own kombucha but gave it up once I learned this. I adore your channel but wanted to share these in case they are of help.
This isn't about herbs but I saw your extract videos how would you make banana extract would you use raw bananas or would you dehydrated the bananas first then add in the alcohol or veg. g? stuff. To make your extract
Not sure if I asked you but do you know how to preserve coconut? I need to preserve 3 bags of Bakers coconut.
I love❤ videos, very informative.
Thank you!
Thank you
