I gotta go with Peter here, the two most important things a pitcher can do is get outs and prevent runs (IP and ERA). If two pitchers have similar innings and ERA numbers, strikeouts can be the tiebreaker, but I'll take the ERA leader over the strikeout leader any day
Did they get it right in the AL OF? Kwan has played only 63 games relative to Durans 90. Duran has 4.7 bWAR compared to Kwan at 3.3. Kwan has better rate stats but he's missed more than a quarter of the season so far.
Smith is at 79 w 297 at bats, Contreras is at 91 w 370 at bats. Will smith has similar HR/Rbi stats despite nearly 100 less at bats. Smith is hitting .269 15 hr 55rbi, .289 10hr 54 rbi. Will smith > Contreras
I understand the choice to put peripherals on the back burner as the all star game is meant to measure pure results, but era is the only thing blanco leads ragans in, and pretty much every single peripheral number indicates he is due for a massive regression. His babip is the lowest among qualified sp by a wideeee margin. Blancos k-bb% is 12.9, the same as Miles Mikolas with a 4.88 era. Ragans k-bb% is 21.5, better thsn Imanaga, Houck, Suarez, Wheeler, etc.
