My grandfather worked for Rolls Royce and later Bristol aerospace in the 60s and helped develop the engine that eventually made its way to Concorde. Such a cool plane. I really wish I could have flown in one.
But that's the thing, there no incentive to make the concorde anymore, whoever needs time will get a private jet and the rest of us will have to fly commercial for the rest of our lives.
Actually concorde made by aerobatic ( i hope i wrote it correct) and BAC. Those 2 marged together to create airbus. And i think airbus still has the patents for concorde. Also, GLSW and alerts sounds are mostly same as an airbus plane
Depends on modification. TU-144 with NK-144 engines was faster, but way too hungry for fuel (and i don't think it was used for commercial usage). And version with RD-36-51 was slower than Concorde
Actually it was used for commercial usage, but it only lasted like 7 months - it was too...complex, to say the least. Constant failures due to it's novelty, expensiveness, the whole novelty and exoticism of an SST thing etc. Plus, post-Brezhnev bureaucracy had also put it's hand on Concordskis fate, unfortunately.
It wasn’t the fastest ever made. The Tu-144 was faster while also carrying more passengers had nearly twice the range. It sucked for various other reasons and was an inferior airplane overall, but it was a full 200mph faster.
lmao you know that planes were stolen from Toulouse and London's bureau right ? it was uncomfortable, badly noise isolated, full of oil leak and more flaws that can't be listed here.
What 0.11 mach faster? plus it's 120 flights compared to concorde's 50000. Also the Soviets placed spies in the concordes development. There were 17 tu-144s, compared to 20 concordes. The Tu 144 suffered 226 failures, it had two crashes whereas concorde had 70 failures all related to the same thing and 1 crash but that was caused by some debris on the runway leftover from a DC-10 that took off before it. The Tu 144 had served as a passenger aircraft for about 3 years but concorde did it for 27 years. It got retired due to low profitibility although the same could not be said for the Tu 144 which got retired because of the poor reliability, reprocussions from the Paris air show incident and rising fuel prices. Yes it was faster but did it really reach the same level of popularity that concorde did?
@@British2020 About the same level of popularity, yes yes it did reach the same level of popularity just for a shorter period of time. Both the Tu-144 and Concorde were waaay too expensive to operate and maintain. Both were amazing advancements in tech though
@@_umkakot1k Barely any faster to the point where it doesn't matter at all Not to mention the TU-144D wad actually slower and it was the 2nd most produced variant.
