Always be on guard to prevent what you build as a group project to be turned suddenly to the advantage of an individual and away from your goal and vision. I have seen it happen in every case because what is built by someone, someone else is looking to exploit for their own benefit. There is no perfect human system.

I'd say "be mindful" as most of the times it won't happen. But prepare yourself if it does. We should probably keep a tinsy bit of candor and give people the benefit of the doubt. (But I have been on that same side and totally agree that it is something to keep an eye out for)

On salience, this is the issue I’ve had with mainstream media from the time I became aware of it. Taking local media by itself, a rational person would think violent crime and illegal drugs are present everywhere throughout the local community.
Simple part for whole fallacy. Super interested in the political economy of media generally. Love your content.

Wonderful! Parts of this take me back to the Julia Galef book "The Scout Mindset" about scout mindset vs soldier mindset. I have often wanted for a source of "statistically significant" news. If you google "media bias chart" you will discover that you can pick the news outlet that fits your tribes point of view.

That was a great video. I’ve been thinking lately of ideas about incorporating systems theory and psychology into a political platform and this is really relevant to that.

Great video Ashley! This has given me a lot of deep food for thought and expanded clarity into some of the things I've been thinking a lot about currently. Thank you so much for all your videos and contribution, the work you do is invaluable.
The amount of impact artificial intelligence will have into the coming years I think is going to be unfathomably profound, and likely crucial to the new enlightenment. Not just the gravity of it's impact but the sheer scale of it's potential applications. If you're interested another RUclipsr who talks about a transitional moment in history specifically related to AI (he calls it 'The Fourth Industrial Revolution') is David Shapiro, really smart interesting dude. I'd recommend checking out his Hierarchical Autonomous Agent Swarms (HAAS) videos, crazy shit.

In order to consult together we first need to all agree on a set of indisputable Principals. Let's say the first Principal is - 'God is One.' we now need to understand the broader understanding of this concept, like If God is One then all Religions of God are like chapters of an on going revelation of God's Knowledge for the purpose of Mankind's gradual spiritual development. So the next Principal would need to be - 'Religion is One.' now consider what the overall result of this principal would be, especially if the next principal is - 'Mankind is One.' Are we getting the picture of a bases for an interrelated and valuable Paradigm shift from were truth can be forthcoming. In fact these three Oneness's are the first of twelve such Principals of the Baha'i Holy Teachings.

Deliberative Democracy with good process does this kind of decision-making - results so far are very positive.

One part of the discussion which would be related to salience frames is the perceived relevancy of a given set of knowledge.
Most people are not going to have a strong emotional response to new discoveries in astronomy (I assume), because this body of knowledge won't directly affect laws, or our values.
However, the same could not be said about biology or psychology, because now you're discussing our bodies and our minds, which is about as intimate as you can get. Finding a disinterested party to make an evaluation is going to be rather complicated.

I think professional academia emerged as a way to fulfil the "judge" role. It's become like a pyramid scheme over time (I think you're right), and may benefit from the decentralization that will emerge due to the current turn in the via mundi. (My expectation that things are turning is drawn from watching your videos about Graeber's book.)

A technical definition of salience would be sampling priority scheduling of refrence signals based on elasticity of model predictive control or preferred outcomes

    • @SamuelOrjiM

Salience is the key to conscious evolution on a biological level and a genuine democracy as it creates a need for voting on applicable refrence signals over elected officials

The shift we need is from mechanical to organic-ecological at the level of worldview.

I have one question: when is a fresh idea such as a paradigm shift truly considered to be a part of the body of knowledge, when the fresh idea is accepted by the custodians governing that area of knowledge or the knowledge adopted to the real world setting?

There is no reason to presume that the average is more truthful. The move to the extreme need not be to do with group influence.

Where is the Net Domestic Product in your economic paradigm?
What happened to the depreciation of durable consumer goods since Sputnik?
The Laws of Physics do not care whether a machine is a Capital Good or a Consumer Good. The Laws of Physics cannot tell.
How does Planned Obsolescence affect consumer depreciation?

You seem to be unaware of a common problem in science with paradigms: sometimes some groups of scientists are so attached to their own, present paradigm that they would 'prefer to die' rather than accept a new paradigm. Many scientific beliefs are more ideologies than scientific facts, and people will very rarely abandon an ideology. Scientists often prefer to say 'we don't yet know, but we're still working on it' than to take a serious look at a discovery that produces an answer but undermines their present paradigm. The energy behind this resistance is enormous. It has to be experienced to be believed.

    In description Kuhn not Kuehn.
If one was taking a Kuhnian approach to Knowledge Systems as Paradigms (A way of explaining/predicting/making sense of the world), perhaps "Kuhn's Anomalies" in this case would be Events/Narratives that the current Knowledge System is incapable of explaining (just like a Scientific Paradigm fails in Kuhn's system when it can't explain phenomena). At some point those "anomalies" become "salient" enough to cause the equivalent of a crisis where people start looking around at a "knowledge system" that better explains things. The successor Paradigm in the "revolution" is one that is able to narratively account for/meaningfully consensualize the "anomaly phenomena" (social/political/economic) and gets adopted because it makes sense of things that if you were an adherent of the prior knowledge system were incomprehensively inexplicable.
Towards the end of the video you suggest a debate as a solution. If I remember Kuhn correctly, he suggested that such debates were impossible because the perspectives were "incommensurable" - so there wouldn't be the ability to set the "ground rules" of such a debate because each incommensurable party had a different set of ground rules for what is "salient". That paradigm shifts in themselves involved shifting not only which system you used to explain phenomena, but what counted as "salient".

IMO In you previous video you were saying you differed with yanmış a little were he never discussed the network. FYI, big data came around in the 60s with mainframes, atm, stock market data. This was yannis’s time like mine. Later on came the network which made big data even bigger but tii hi is was the 80s. So you guys are like talking about the same thing except he’s just older
