I remember Carter having a scene with rose when he first arrived. Carter has been going through victims trying to conversion therapy first JP now Lucas hope he doesn’t target rose next, but I feel with how the storyline is going he is going to realise that there’s another student in the lbgt community at his school with him being the principal and all and once he’s through with Lucas rose will be next
Absolutely disgraceful.
My only problem with this storyline is that they are overusing 2SLGBTQIA+ storylines. 1/2 the village is either gay, lesbian, bi or trans....that's not realistic

Neither is having multiple serial killers at a time living in one tiny village. It's not MEANT to be realistic!!

Well who did like puberty? Just because you don’t like your body, doesn’t equate transgenderism. I honestly believe it’s best for children to wait until after puberty, preferably adulthood when their brain is fully formed. They need to dig deeper into what is going on with Rose before any rash decision is made. It’s irreversible. I hope this is handled well

100% agree. The whole argument is that its best to transition before puberty so you don't go through it in a body your not comfortable with which I do understand to an extent. However at the end of the day kids are kids and they just shouldn't make such a serious decision

Correct. Everyone faces daily confusion and identity issues during puberty. That's literally what it is. The fact these are probably normal occurrences during puberty hasn't even been addressed.

Exactly. This storyline can only be realistic if it’s about those who de-transition. I have a friend who was young, about 12, when she transitioned from female to male. But later on regretted it and said she was just a young girl who was insecure and didn’t feel “girly” and because her parents were disgusting people like Kitty here, they just told her that she was a “boy in the wrong body”.
But I doubt Hollyoaks will show a storyline like this because they have become way too “woke”.
Many women don't like their bodies for various reasons and gender dysphoria is one of those reasons , where the brain and body disconnect, thus being a transexual man or woman , biologically male or female yes but some people don't align with their birth sex.
Dissociation from your very self is a lot more than "not liking your body." Learn to empathize instead of assuming your experience is universal.
When he says he doesn't like his body is not the se way you do. It is implied.
Dede reminds me of a younger peri
She should do she’s the one out of the three children who’s actually Biologically related Peri! It seems that the writers and producers have forgotten about that! She is the late Tegan’s actual daughter but she was switched with Diane’s daughter on the day they were born by a nurse who was UTI. When Tegan passed the Lomax’s just handed Rose over to Tony and Diane and they have raised the three as triplets! Peri nor her mom has spoken too or seen the children in a way to spend time with them, the only interaction they have is when they are in the public house drinking and the children are either coming home from school or go down stairs to speak with their parents about something. And even then they don’t even acknowledge either of the girls! The first few years of Rose’s life she was raised by a different family and the children only found out just a year or two ago what happened when they were born because someone had accidentally told the press. No wonder she feels like she doesn’t belong and is confused. But no they’ve had to give the child a storyline like this to explain why she feels different, not that it’s the fact that she’s watched Tony and Diane give more attention to the twins who aren’t actually twins because DeDe isn’t related to them at all she’s a Lomax/Black not a Hutchins!

People are already panning this storyline before it even gets started.. What if Rose only thinks that she wants to be trans and Kitty feeds more into it causing a rift in the family? It then becomes a story where Kitty acts like Tony and Diane are against their daughters transition when in actuality Rose is simply a confused and scared teenager who thinks that she wants to be a boy? There's a way to do this that is respectful to both parties involved. Simply bringing awareness to how at a young age you should think before you act when it comes to making these types of decisions even if you are "sure"... It has a huge impact on everything. Right now everything about this seems rather rushed and I feel like that's by design.. Having Kitty rush Rose into making her decision before she fully grasps it all.
I swear the Hollyoaks team just uses Google keywords to find out popular search terms and trending topics which will boost their flagging views, and randomly inserts a story for a random character without any thought or concept of storytelling. Or 'issues-based' stories which are solely about said trending topics, and once over, have no lasting impact on the character. The actors must be incredibly embarrassed to be part of this show.

At 11 you may think you know who you are but you don’t. At least give it time, go through a few seasons, give yourself a chance to develop before making such a life altering decision. I had body dysmorphia before I even knew what that word was, obviously everyone is different but as I grew up and observed the world and formed my own informed opinions, I realised there is more than one way to be a girl and I don’t have to fit into the narrow box media had fed me or do what everyone around me was doing. Here’s hoping this story has some nuance to it
It's great that you figured out how best to be yourself. That's so important and I hope you know now that you are valid and you're beautiful just the way you are.
That being said, this comment is a little insensitive when this storyline is only happening because the actor is transitioning. Younger people can be transgender just as easily as older people. The point where you really start noticing these things are during puberty and, regardless of what yarn people like to spin about hormones and "trans trends", kids aren't as gullible and stupid as people make out. Nobody knows you better than you do and nobody has the right to tell anyone that they don't know who they are. That is their journey, just as yours wasn't anyone else's either.

@@baked_alaska I don’t think it’s controversial to say maybe an 11 year old doesn’t need to make life altering decisions just yet and should get to know themselves more intimately first. Who you are at 11, regardless of how mature you feel you are, (which is usually based on life forcing you to grow up too quickly) is certainly not who you’ll be. It’s not about invalidating but it’s ok for adults to say ‘I don’t think you have the emotional maturity to deal with the nuances of this just yet, I’m gonna be the adult for now, while you explore but hold off on any permanent decisions’

The sinister music gvies this a spin I didn't expect. Given the massive issues with gender identity ideology's impact on troubled teenagers, I'm surprised you're even attempting to tackle this. To do this responsibly, youre going to have to tread an extremely narrow wire. There's massive scope for nagative consequences for the kids who will no doubt be influenced by what they're watching here. I really hope youre going to be bringing in a range of critical and clinical voices, rather than peddling ideology.

Understand that this comment is coming from someone who is trans. This is not appropriate. Out of nowhere, Rose just knows she’s meant to be a boy. And immediately she’s being affirmed? It may be true, but at 13 I didn’t know who I was. Neither did any of the literal dozen trans people I know. We all came to the same conclusion that there were way too many people in school that would hop on anything for attention and transitioning for attention would be something a number of us would do. I have no issue with the writers making this character trans, as long as they don’t rush into her getting on hormones or anything because it’s not realistic and dangerous to set up the idea that these kinds of changes can happen pretty much immediately.

Hollyoaks has gone down the woke path. Why? Wokeness needs to end. Just keep a show simple. Someone arrives in a village, gets around, a storyline happens and they live or die. Now it's more along the lines of issues affecting people. The producers come up with a storyline based on a so called oppressed minority, put it in a news article for TV shows, introduce characters that align with the minority, and then it takes over the entire show for a month, leaving out storylines that are actually interesting. Then it becomes part of the show's history like it's important and never goes away. Making it stick in people's heads and affecting their own lives.
All I want from this show is murder, adultery, love and fighting. I'd be lucky to see one moment of that.

Oh my OA I feel so sorry for Rose aka Dee I really am glad Ivy was there for her and she does have a point she can’t just keep cutting school I get that she’s scared but Tony is nothing like that at all. I kinda wonder what made Sally decide to become Transgender as well when she was Ian and she’s also John Paul’s Father and I also understand that why Ivy decided to become Transgender but Tony will always accept her for who Rose is. If you think about it it sounds about right for this to be for Rose. Because Roae and Dee Dee were switched at birth raised by different moms. I also thought Rose in some way wouldn't questioned something about herself. If it was possibly feeling rejected or her own identity. Plus I don't think Tony and Diane should have a problem with Rose because Tony's son Harry was gay and after some time Tony was ok with it plus he's been like a dad to Ste and he also started up first ever Hollyoaks Pride. So this shouldn't be a problem for them.

I hate the comment section well most of it. “Grooming” “unrealistic” like cmon kitty even said “your life is in ur hands” and “only if you are sure” it’s good to not discourage younger people to do express who they are, the dangerous thing is surpressing. By not having a support network a lot of trans children are so worse off, isolated, severely mentally ill. It’s not grooming it’s allowing and understanding their emotions, and allowing themselves to express how they are feeling. Telling a child to not express themself will cause them to feel like they cannot open up about anything. If it leads to detransitioning then so be it but allowing kids to express who they are and have the trust to talk to people and open up goes a long way because they will be comfortable to talk and open up.
If a child is feeling depressed you would hope they would come to you and tell you. If they are being bullied you would hope they could talk to you. So what’s different about being trans. It just shows that all you pick and choose what you hope ur kids will talk to you about which means they will feel like they can’t talk to you about anything.
As for it being unrealistic it took someone explaining how they feel and it relating to me that made me realise I am trans. Out for 4 years now and so happy knowing who I am. Created my own support network. I cut my hair very quickly because I had wanted to for so long but had to be “feminine” as I wasn’t out but as soon as I realised who I was I cut my hair and finally felt so comfortable in myself. So those saying “unrealistic” maybe listen to stories like mine and others like me and realise that this is some people’s reality. You can call it unrealistic but do you actually know what it’s like… probably not. Being so young and figuring out who you are is hard it’s why we experiment. It’s very showing on how you all are just by these comments
I gave up with the show because I felt like it went to crap once the county lines story ended. But I will say this, when a story angers a large portion of the audience, it’s a good sign because the story has made an impact and is triggering the transphobes and bigots.

Theres a lot of comments calling this "Woke" and "Unrealistic" so a few points id like to make.
1. Who remembers Jason? Not Jason Roscoe, Jason Costello. A trans masc who has a trans storyline in 2011/2012. If I remember correctly, wasnt he in School?
2. Its too early to tell if this is accurate or not. However, from a writing/story POV. There has been no build up or hints. They've just rushed into it. Not at all the right move. I'd rather them have soent 3-6 months fleshing out the Gender Dysphoria before heading into the storyline by showing us examples. All they did was say Rose didnt want to go to school and gave a reason right before a coming out to Kitty/Ivy (yeah idk whats going on there)
3. To the people that say "ChIlDrEn ShOuLdnT wAtcH tHis bEcAuse iT wIlL tURn tHeM TraNS." Stfu. Same argument has been made by gay characters being in shows, and is still being made today. Same thing can be said about Racist Characters. All this will do is show that being trans isnt a problem, isnt disgusting, and itll fight everything else the right are trying to spill when making the argument against trans people in their culture war
4. I, personally, would like this to lead to a trans-regret storyline. Trans-Regret is often used against trans people and is extremely misunderstood. (For information purposes. Only around 1% of trans people experience regret. A small minority, within a small minority)
Yes to everything you said. I don’t understand why people that keep complaining about wokeness watches a show like Hollyoaks and they act like those storylines came out of no where.
Kitty's the right person for Rose to talk to. Often the teenage years ARE when someone is able to realize this, or at least consider the possibility. Most trans people I've heard stories have wondered what was wrong earlier. This is a good topic to address. I don't know what planet the commenters below are on!🙄

Anorexia storylines were popular in the 90s now nobody would encourage people wanting to look like how they felt they should look. It's a fad. This erasure of tomboys is appalling. There is no surgery that can change your sex like there's no surgery that can change your age.
