- (update) it has been brought to my attention that this has the highest probability of being a scam as a large number of backers have not received their machines and the company has gone silent. My deepest apologies for anyone that has backed this project because of my review.
This is my full hands on review of the Runmecy mini Diode laser engraver. It is a cool little device that has some good features and a few things I suggest Runmecy would address before shipping out the final product.
They are running a kickstarter if you are interested in getting one of these. www.kickstarte...

Well done video Chad. Gave me a good idea what this laser is all about. I am interested in a laser just like this one, but I feel the price point is what is holding me back from trying on out. Seems to me like its a bit over priced for being SO limited in area
Thanks my friend. I completely understand my hope is that this video paints a practical picture of this particular machine so that people would know weather or not it's a good fit for them.
if u buy from china, 3 mw laser like this only cost 50$, cheaper if u buy in bulk
Please my problem with this Machine is that it only print black colors
Hello, can you engrave light QR codes on stainless steel with this machine?
In my experience the blue diode lasers can achieve some different colors on steel. But the light color I believe is normally produced with fiber lasers. Check out my video on the xtool F1 Ultra it’s a combination blue and fiber laser.
I watched this video wearing the security glasses. Safety first!
Perhaps it will cut a small, personal pizza.
Hahaha YASSS maybe a lunchable...
This is one of the best reviews I have seen on anything! You did an awesome job, Chad!
Thank you so very much for those kind words.
Thats just crazy!!! Nice vid
With things like these when they first come out for sale it is easy to think "scam". That is because some of these get started on some sort of crowd funding platform and then someone embezzles the money. What happens next is you have a lot of ticked off customers hounding you for their product or the money. Not all crowd funding projects go bad this way but when they do you may be glad not to have invested in it. Not only that but being an early adopter of new technology is risky since the bugs are not all worked out. Now if you can buy from someone who stands behind it and will work the bugs out of your already purchased product or even replace it free that is wonderful. It just shows you that they don't care just about getting your money and flying by night leaving you with an expensive paperweight.
You are absolutely right, since this I have opted to now feature crowdfunded projects but maybe I will in the future with a big big disclaimer and warning on the front side basically stated exactly what you just said.
Nice job!! Looks like it did fantastic in the slate. Was that on 100% speed?
Yes I believe so slate engraves surprisingly easily. Though even at 100 speed you're looking at about 45 mins on a large 4x4 engraving. Unless they make some changes before releasing the production models.
I got mine after ordering it. I just cant rmember the name of the apk for running it on android. Anyone know the name?
I think this is it apps.apple.com/us/app/mini-laser-engraving-machine/id1485978951
Thank you for your update, and your video. Given that all micro laser engravers are pretty much the same could you tell me how long it took to print out your logo at about 1.5" in dia? I ask because I'm thinking of getting one for the shop I oversee. (Recovery Worx) I'm hoping it will a better job than the branding iron we're using now. If you could give me a ball park time figure that would be a big help to us. Thank you, Roland
I wish I could remember but this was so long ago I have no idea at this point.
Chad kudos, great video! Question do you think i would be able to use this laser in rubber? If yes what setting would it be. I will appreciate it.
I believe you would be able to engrave stamping leather not sure about cutting though. Also this company I believe did disappear but there are similar machines by wainlux I believe
so could i use a photo from my recent gallery that’s already saved into my phone? or would i need to take a new photo of something? i can’t wait until mine arrives this weekend. :) well, i ordered a similar one called daja on amazon.
Yes you can use photos from your gallery as far as I can remember.
I wish someone would do an in depth video about the settings. Like so frustrating. All small laser machines like this, Wainlux, etc have no support on settings (speed, contrast, power etc)
Best I can say is have lots of scrap materials because finding the right settings like you said is frustrating because the percentage for speed seems way off.
Hi there what are thoughts on metal? I want to engrave on gold and does it work on rounded objects? They are just small jobs. Thanks
Oh hmm definitely not sure on gold, small engraving should work on rounded objects along as it does not go out of focus too much.
If you are wanting to do real metal engraving look into fiber lasers they cost much more though.
@@ChadsCustomCreations thanks for the reply. I can’t seem to get my hands on this particular model. And I’m not sure on the other brand names that look similar. If your looking to sell your feel free to let me know. Thanks again
What diode laser do you suggest for a beginner who wants to start doing coasters pictures and some smaller engraving projects to get familiar with software and such. Budget is not a factor
Thanks
Take a look at my video called diode vs co2 laser I really like the ortur laser I got and they have a few different models aswell that might fit your particular needs.
@@ChadsCustomCreations
Thank you for the fast reply I will definitely take a look at that video. Quick question does the ortur have a simple mode Where you can take a picture and transfer it to the laser? Sort of like how the laser pecker does.
@@rt4476 so with the ortur you will need a computer with a USB connection to run it but you can still take pictures and drag them into the software.
The metal is stainless steel right?
I believe so
Ok thanks much!@ChadsCustomCreations
@ChadsCustomCreations just wanted to say I got mine and I used omtech laser spray and it marks black on stainless steel. Very impressive for this laser. Thanks again for your review of this!
is it 3000mw laser?
I think this was just a 5w laser
Hey Chad. Would you say this is a good beginner engraver to use on dog tags, metal discs, maybe glass, small surfaces?
I would say it is a good fit for beginners. Ease of use and engraving is it's strongest points, running it on small surfaces the slow speed doesn't bother me as much. Go download the mini engraver app and see if you think it may have enough features for you.
@@ChadsCustomCreations I am also looking at this unit.
m.gearbest.com/laser-engraving-machine/pp_009895272714.html
Do you have any knowledge? Is this better than the one posted?
Also would this be good for engraving metal like dog tags key chains?
I appreciate your time and feedback
It seems almost more powerful, a little more advanced than beginner but seems more professional and like you can do more with it.
Thoughts?
I don't have any personal experience with that one but looking at that one I believe it is definitely more versatile. I would look at some reviews on that one if it can be run on lightburn software, and has the power to mark metal that's probably the route I would go. I see they advertise the wattage as higher but I would be interested to see in a review if the power is really there.
@@ChadsCustomCreations yea the reviews all seem good. Lots of people cutting wood and engraving wood and leather and glass, seen a few people do metal but looks like most likely to do wood, so power wise you don't see a reason why it shouldn't be able to engrave metal?
@@ryanderot I like it, and there is always that mustard trick I did I look forward to putting a video together going more in depth on that cause that was totally unexpected I had no idea.
hi, does it engrave on metal, silver? gold?
I believe best you will get is what I demonstrated in this video by using the mustard I don't believe it is actual metal engraving
Why are there so many comments in their page that this is a scam product? It seems fairly straightforward to me.
I think people are iffy because they see lasers that are very similar which most likely are made by the same company but from what I understand this is their newest model that has the mobile app and metal engraving capabilities.
It does seem to be a scam, no update or reply from them on indiegogo. I've ordered one, but will cancel if I don't hear back from them in the next few days.
Shipping for this is listed for June.
I really hope this is not the case. Does kick starter or indiegogo provide any protection from this?
@@ChadsCustomCreations I don't think so. You have about two weeks to cancel and get a refund, after that any issues will have to be resolved with the seller directly. Worst case I guess you can get a refund via your credit card company.
Can your CO2 laser engrave mustard coated steel?
You will have to tune into the next laser video to find that out. 😉
Can you engrave business cards
Yes
Can i use it to make rubber stamp
It would work for it but read the description this company has disappeared. I would recommend checking out my video on the xtool D1
I got a headache after watching this when the laser recorded
Yes it needs an epilepsy warning for sure.
Great video. Nice laser
Thanks so much RED
This is good, l will love to have one to do engraving jobs
Sadly this company disappeared check out my videos on the xtool laser engraver
Can you test this little machine on dog tags
I would but for the moment it is with ny brother in Alaska. Though there is a Facebook group of people who are using these machines and coming up with some great work you may want to look into that.
This video hurts my eyes cause that camera could never focus to anything
Gopro does have trouble with the close ups for sure.
It looks like Runmecy has taken the money and disappeared, the internet address no longer exists and 99% of the supporters have never received anything.
It’s shameful, I won’t accept anything else from kickstarter or indiegogo since dealing with this. I cannot believe they allow this to happen.
@@ChadsCustomCreations I also don't understand why they did that.because I think there is no other device that can engrave metal in this price range.I would have liked to buy the device too.
+1👍 :)
free to keep? :) lucky creator you are
Right couldn't believe they chose me, I am but a tiny fish in a very big sea.
Very hard to hear you. Please consider something like a wireless lavaliere or lapel mic. There are several on the market around the $50 range that actually would work very well for the type of videos you post. The receiver can even plug into your cellphone or tablet if that’s what you’re using. I purchased one and have had awesome results. Anyways, it’s just a suggestion. Thanks for making and posting the this and all of your videos.
So funny you just posted this I was just watching another youtuber and was like wow they are 30 feet from the camera and the audio is perfect. Do you mind sending me the link to the one your having good success with? I would love to use one in future videos.
runmecy scammer
Totally understand your concerns, as I share the same. Thankfully there is an uncensored group on Facebook now people are receiving their machines now and some are having great success with them. facebook.com/groups/runmecybackers/?ref=share
No 50% power not 50% speed. Takes longer to burn at less power.
What I meant is when you change the speed from say 100% to 90% the actual difference was more like a 50% change definitely something weird in the software.
Can it cut leather??
This one would have a hard time cutting leather. Laser technology has come a long way in two years though check out the Xtool S1 it will definitely cut leather xTool S1 You Don't "Need" That

I am trying to engrave something on My laser engraver printer... and it shows on the application that it is engraving but it does nothing on the wood... what can I do to fix it?
This was another Kickstarter scam. They took all the money and left hundreds of paying backers with nothing. Check the “comments” tab on the Kickstarter page
Good lord I just went over and read the comments. It's so strange as I don't understand why they sent out so many but then completely disappeared. This is awful and makes me feel like they scammed me into being a part of it...
What is the best wood to engrave? I read online that alder, maple is good? How about pine? What do you recommend and have you engraved a bamboo cutting board before?
With these diode lasers I have found most any wood engraves really nice and dark. On my co2 laser I've had a harder time finding good woods that engrave nice and dark. I basically have a big box full of test on different materials so I can keep track at what speed and powers give me different tones and depths of cut.
Nice video man. Very thorough. At the end of the video, I believe it was laser burning your logo onto a box or something, you mentioned it being about 3½ inches tall, how long did it take to do that logo there at the end?
I did not have a timer set but I want to say it took about an hour... I am hoping the company takes my advice about giving the user the ability to lower the dpi on the engraving so the user can put the laser out of focus a bit and thus speeding up larger engravings.
Maybe pull this video? Or add a warning right at the beginning, that this company was a scam. Not everybody reads the notes, or the comments. Love your other videos.
You’re right I changed the title and hopefully that helps.
Looking for some help here... I am having troubles lining things up with this device. Hoping you can give me some insight/help on getting my engravings centered
If I remember correctly I think there is a button that says preview or frame before you hit start in the app that draws an outline of the design. Are you not having any luck using that feature?
@@ChadsCustomCreations just started playing with mine (it's been on a time out in the corner) I did find that and giving it another go here now! Ty so much
Can you tell me what speed and power you used to engrave the coasters?
I can't remember exactly but with the coasters go full speed and maybe 50% power as they don't take much and if you do too much the color will turn golden. Also I spray then with clear lacquer and let drive first also.
Do you still have/use this laser? I am interested in the Wainlux that is very similar to this one? Although I was uncertain on how well it will Engrave Acrylic.
I did send this to my brother so I no longer have it, the company disappeared, which is very disappointing. I would take a look into co2 lasers if you are interested in acrylic engraving.
I wouldn't advice Wainlux. Even tho I have one and works more and less well, 99% of the brand's clients will say it causes you issues and not worth it.
Where did you get the dog tag blank?
I forgot to say but laser came with two blanks. Though I found these on Amazon they look similar. www.amazon.com/dp/B07BFSQT3N?ref=exp_chadscustomcreations_dp_vv_mw
How do you purchase this and how much is it. Great review👍
I put a link to their kick starter in the description I believe they have some still available at the $300 price
