Cool idea, especially with a "historic" knife.

I only use sand type stones I find lying around to sharpen my work trowels and they get razor sharp, many a laborer has been cut while trying to clean one of my Trowels after I give it a good Sharpening. That blade is so thick on the Bowie I wonder if circular motions on the edge would work? Like sharpening an Axe.

Great video, very interested to see the final result, my experience with shale is that it dulls an edge as it is much softer than steel, my knife was removing shale rather than the other way round. The first two stones look just right. Try testing the sharpness before the shale.

Reprofile the handle and it will be a far better knife. It is why thy made it so basic and large.
