I've been banging the drum that camera manufactures should let us set custom crop ratios in-camera explicitly for this purpose. Glad to see the Sony can do this. I know Fuji GFX cameras also offer a very wide aspect ratio option too. I use a canon so it's super frustrating...
I've been doing 16 : 9 and 21 : 9 crops for a lot of my photos the past year or two. It really works well for vehicle photos, especially in-motion shots.
I love your videos, you are such a calm and composed person, very enjoyable to listen to. You are insanely in control of what's in the frame and I feel like my photos are better from just watching your videos.
I don't know who needs to hear this but, the Panasonic S9 does this IN-camera with NO post work or cropping needed. We call it "X-Pan Mode" lol. 65:24 format. Matter of fact, ALL full-frame Panasonic cameras can do this.
Great video. I visited Hiroshima in 1969 and have a few images from the same positions as yours with a Pentax Spotmatic 🙃. Yours are very impressive. I will challenge myself to shoot with the 2:35x1 (or 16x9) perspective more often. Always something new to learn...
Would love to see some more editing vids for photo sets, hear philosophies and train of thought from moment of capture to print or sharing online! Digging your vibe, very inspirational
6.5 x 2.4 crop in post works quite well. I've been using a small plastic device called a ViewCatcher over the past few years, marked up with my preferred crop ratios. It's better than taping up my camera LCD :)
This is a great way to shoot "x-pan" like and it's only on the A7Cii/A7CR. I have had this set for a while since Chris Brockhurst showed it on his channel. BTW, Adding a Fuji-like recipe to the Creative Style is fun too.
I like that idea of shooting wide angle and cropping it into cinescope aspect ratio. I've done cinescope cropping already earlier but never gave a single thought of what the source image should've been shot with. With your idea its possible to capture a fleeting moment. Something which might be impossible with stiching and cropping into cinescope. Thank you for the idea. Going to test it.
Great video 👌 I started to take photos with the Sirui 35mm T 2.9 x1.6 Saturn recently, and even though I have to focus with an unsqueezed monitor, the result turns out great 😊 I'm writing rn as I'm heading to Taiwan for a 1 month and a half trip and I can't wait to shoot with it.
Hey man I came across your channel a few days ago, love your content and style of shooting! Not sure if you are aware but Sony has an old full frame point and shoot with a fixed zeiss 35mm f2 with a 24mp sensor. It’s a much smaller size than the a7cii with your compact lenses. It’d be cool to see you potentially try it out for a video if you haven’t yet. Cheers!
Big fan of this style, I just with my camera had that feature. The best approximation I've been able to use it to just put the 3x3 grid on and use the horizontal lines as framing edges rather than for interior features like normal, but its an imperfect method
Recently i purchased the Leica SL2-S and it also have this similar crop , in the Leica the crop is 3x1 and it's really fun to play in this crop . I have tried on 35 , 50 , 90 mm all of the focal length are good .
In case you didn't know, SLR Magic makes an anamorphic (panoramic) adapter that can work on a lot of Fujis, but I'm still on the fence about the results I have seen from it. Check it out if you have the chance, there's a few examples on RUclips and elsewhere on the web.
The cinematic cropping has caught my eye in this video and others lately, but where do these cinematic crops get displayed and shared? I imagine facebook or instagram would not be the right realm for it. But maybe a large print on a wall would be nice.
I have a few photos that I've cropped wide and they are one of my favourites. I wish the A7IV would add these cropping markers. Superb shots btw, awesome work as always 👏👏👏
@@silvanacht8071 yup, those crop markers for stills are only available in the newer cameras like the A7CII. Hopefully a firmware update could bring those to the A7IV and other older cameras.
Easy trick for those who want to give it a go: slap some electrical tape on a filter. Works like a charm. Doing it "live" is waaaay different than post, as he mentions.
Have you ever had issues with the single SD slot on the A7cii ? Last week my sony SD card just died for no reason (no physical damage, etc…) while I was shooting and I lost everything😢 My computer can’t even detect the SD card anymore, and I kinda regret I didn’t have a 2nd card slot here…
I never had issues with SD card in almost 10 years of doing photography. Even on my a7iv I was always using only 1 card. I don't know if it is pure luck or the brand matters. I am using Sandisk extreme pro ones
No you can’t. I’m a Fuji user. You can use grid lines to give you a rough idea of where you’ll crop though. Also, full frame Lumix cameras let you do 65:24 (xpan) in camera.

Crazy how much you make me feel from a video. The combination of music, b roll and photography is just sublime 👌🏻

Thought I was the only one!! I really like shooting panoramic stills. It gives a different "look and feel" to the image overall. ❤🔥

Thank you! 😊
Some of my personal favorite shots I've taken, I've cropped to 16x9! Glad to see others try this "wide screen" look for photography!
These are in 2.35:1, very close to 21:9, the aspect ratio used in many modern films. 16:9 is not as wide of an aspect ratio.

Even better, the Panasonic raw files shot in X Pan mode can be restored to full sensor width in post. It's such a great feature.
@@raksh9 Great point !
And you can slap an anamorphic lens on that little badboy for max cinemascope vibe
Fuji GFX does this too, for those in that realm 🤘
I wish the apsc Fuji’s did that. You should really be able to have a custom crop

I have recently started to do this with my walk around camera...I love the "look".
I like the settings. I personally prefer the darker images more, just like yours, and shot some of myself too. Truly gives a cinematic feeling
I bet these look much more impressive on a large screen, as opposed to the phone I’m watching on right now. Nice shots 👍
I must say they are looking better on a big screen indeed ;)
Watching it on a 75 inch tv and I can tell you it looks glorious.
Toujours une masterclasse de ta part riche en idée et émotions merci !

I would love to try it. I was thinking of assigning a custom button for the aspect ratio.
This is such a great video. I love the reflection shots 😮
Thank you so much!!

Never played with Sony JPEG recipes but I might give it a try one day

Such a peaceful and amazing video. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Does the A7IV have that feature? And does it just crop the real image or you can work with an anamorphic lens directly without an external monitor?
That´s a very nice feature. I love that wide look... do you think of uploading videos as well in that aspect ratio?
Hopefully Sony releases a firmware update that makes this ratio available on other bodies
Big fan of this style, I just with my camera had that feature.

Really need this for my Sony A7RV.
Nice video ! What is the name of the opening song ?
Becoming a good photographer is simple, but it's not easy.. I like it :)
Loved this video, Adrien. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your comment :)
Mine too, thats why I bought Viltrox 16 F1.8. I can shoot panoramas without merging photos
I wish my Fujis had that option, thats really the only thing I am missing from them

Lens filter + electrical tape 🥳
Great video! I will give it a try. Thank you for your inspirational content. 🙏
Thanks for your comment :)
Hi!
Could you tell me what piece of music you use in the beginning of this video?
Nice technique sir! 🫡
This is a great video and tip, thank you. Does this tip help better compose for vertical portraits too?
What kind of music is this/what genre of music?
I’ve always wondered…
Is it some kind of specific ambience genre? Someone please let me know thank you
Great Video!! I wish the JPEGs would come out cropped to that size already and The raw file would be uncropped.
That would be cool yeah!

May i know the name of the songs use? During 3:48 specifically
I have a few photos that I've cropped wide and they are one of my favourites. I wish the A7IV would add these cropping markers.
Superb shots btw, awesome work as always 👏👏👏
I am trying to find it for the a7IV but I only see it for the video. Does that mean it's not for the a7IV for photo :(
@@silvanacht8071 yup, those crop markers for stills are only available in the newer cameras like the A7CII. Hopefully a firmware update could bring those to the A7IV and other older cameras.
Another lovely video my friend
Do you use any tripods for those still shots?
I just wondering how people create such a cinematic looks using Curve, can you share the tutorial?

i thing you should edit your video same ratio with image , it make us to watch your flow better

This facility is available on so many cameras
Is it only available on the Video mode? I don't see this option on the photo. I'm using A7IV.
Very nice man
Wish the a6700 had this feature.
It is purely software so they could implement it in an update but not sure they will ^^'
Is this only available on a7cii? Cuz on my a7iii I only see it available for video mode?
What rope strap are you using on your camera?
any way to change the aspect marker darkness for a7iii??
i am sure most of viewers do not know this location with tragic story, photos are great any way
very good vibe :)
Can we do this in fuji xt3
Reason why you prefer a7 c2 over a7 4?
Weight! ;)
@@adriensanguinetti but the quality is equal?
Surely you can change the language on your camera?
Nope, not on a Sony camera bought in Japan ^^'
❤❤❤
2.35:1 should be on all cameras.
Does anyone know if this setting exists on Fuji? Couldn't find a setting for it on X-T20. I would like to capture the full resolution with RAWs
I'm also not too keen on taping the screen :D
No you can’t. I’m a Fuji user.
You can use grid lines to give you a rough idea of where you’ll crop though.
Also, full frame Lumix cameras let you do 65:24 (xpan) in camera.
Seems like an interesting camera! Seeing the 3:2 crop factor overlaid on an image from it is pretty eye-opening.
I was expecting an anamorphic lens
Nice photos
Thanks :)
For photos this aspect ration doesn't really make it more or less cinematic. This is more of a video thing.
Is this Hiroshima?
Yes ;)
@@adriensanguinetti thank you. Is that wasted building somehow conected to the war or…?
Instagram hates this format, ergo i hate Instagram.
now take this title and put it out of context, or put a image of a gun on the thumbnail💀💀
Widescreen or nothing.
