Here is where Tuomas got his inspiration for this song: Originally published in 1854, Walden; or, Life in the Woods, is a vivid account of the time that Henry D. Thoreau lived alone in a secluded cabin at Walden Pond. It is one of the most influential and compelling books in American literature.
Hey Jeff, Inspired by the 19th century book 'Walden' by Henry David Thoreau, which he wrote while staying at Walden Pond. Tuomas considers the song to be a continuation of I Want My Tears Back. My Walden is from the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album(2015) Troy is singing in Welsh at the beginning. Marko's double neck, 'The Beast', is a custom Warwick bass with Framus guitar.(Both brand names are owned by the same company) The guitar neck has more of an acoustic sound. very heavy and very expensive. Yes, Troy plays everything. The Irish Low Whistle here along with the Uilleann pipes. Troy was once asked if there was anything he couldn't play as well as he would like. His answer was 'ice hockey'. 🤣
Troy can play: Overton low whistle, Uilleann pipes - which used in here. Tin whistle, vocals, guitar (Fylde Oberon), keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone... And is also a punster - In an interview he was asked "Is there anything else you wish to learn to play (if anything)?" Troy:"Ice Hockey!!"
The breath of fresh air is totally Nightwish, I can pick a song depending on the mood I’m in and enjoy it , but the one constant is that I have to hear some Nightwish every day !!!🤘🏼💥🤘🏼
The language sung by Troy at the beginning of the song is Welsh. Troy plays the Uilleann pipes and the Low Whistle. Both are Irish instruments. Marko's instrument is called "The Beast". The top neck is a 4 string bass guitar, and the bottom one is a 6 string electric guitar. Walden is a book by Henry David Thoreau, chronically the two years he lived by Walden Pond, seeking solitude and a oneness with nature by living simply and creating an environment that suited him and no one else. He interacted with others, selling beans he had grown, but did not integrate with their institutions. The line in the song “ I do not wish to evade the world, yet I will forever build my own,” captures that nicely, I think. NWSU 🤘😎🤘.
Hi Jeff. This is one of my very favorite, uplifting Nightwish songs. The performance by Floor and every member of the band was spectacular and I love the mid-song shift where Marko moved down from the upper neck Warwick bass to the lower necked Framus guitar. This was another really fun reaction by you. Thank you.
This whole concert is so well recorded that you can hear all of the separate instruments and vocals clearly. That's a good thing because Troy's tools are the type can be lost in a metal mix. I'm enjoying your Wembley excursion along with you. Thanks, Jeff.
He doesn't play everything, he only plays: Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone ... and whatever can't run away from him. In short "a world of my own" More Troy singing - The Carpenter, Buenos Aires 2018. "The Beast" is a Warwick bass and Framus 6-string, custom made. Marco is a Warwick player and Framus is part of the same group.
Love the Celtic feel of this. It is just so joyful. A double neck bass/guitar?!?!! Wow!!! A great way to start my day!❤Thank you for this great reaction!🤗
It's great to enjoy another of your reactions. I'm so glad you are continuing down the Nightwish rabbit hole. So many reactors start off with Nightwish, and then stop. You keep 'em coming, and we will keep watching. Totally agree about this being such a feel good song. I mean, Floor's smile at 2:44; if that doesn't melt your heart, nothing will. Again, and I keep repeating this, but it's true, it's great to see the band all enjoying themselves so much. And judging by the huge grin on your face, so are you.
No flute Jeff, Low Whistle. Marco's double neck is a Warwick/Framus, Infinity/Panthera. Custom shop special order only and start thinking around 14,000 USD, or more. . . . . . (edit) It's in the Warwick catalogue. . . . . . . . . .POA ! AFAIK he has a piezo pick-up integrated in the bridge to obtain the acoustic guitar sound. Whilst his bass is DI into the desk, the 6 string is into a Kemper to obtain further tonal modelling and then into the desk from there. To finish that story, Emppu also uses a Kemper with the power output into the sideways 4 x 12 on stage for sustain and feedback but that too has DI into the desk, apparently Emppu took two days with the techs in a studio to refine the settings he uses and there are only four or five selected from his pedal board.
It's great how much this band loves performing for their fans. Engaging with them with Troy showing his chops. And the three vocals are great, superb musicians!!
Great reaction once again! I love that you're going through complete concerts in order. I know it's a long way off and there's lots from Wembley yet.... but you really have to go through the Tampere concert as well - there's some stuff there you won't have heard anywhere else. Keep up the good work Jeff!
Hei jeff! Good reaction as always. Waiting for next nightwish reaction. You are professional at music and i dont now nothing abaut music thats why i always want to hear what you saying. I smile every time i see you new nightwish reaction 😀🤘
my walden if someone were to ask me what it means that about how i would describe it, what inspires you and if you have quite a few things that give you those powerful feelings and when its so strong like it is here well then it can be very uplifting and quite motivational and spiritual like a the creator the feelings that this very colorful very friendly folky sound is quite strong and powerful and very inspirational like uhh the presence of this band and their music everything they touch turns to gold these six such extremely incredibly talented professional musicians the level of creativity that they have with each other is off the scale this is a great example of that because we haven't heard alot of these sounds and flavors and layers of musical composition since since the sixties with some of that psychedelic music that we enjoy so much so much versatility here
Your own Walden Pond etc. Love the song, would love a "Walden" of my own, but will deal with my old house in town and travel out into the wilds of the U.P. of Michigan and visit a Walden.
So...3 thoughts... 1.) WEMBLEY!... 2.) Troy IS NW's secret ace-card... 3.) Marko's guitar is both a bass AND a 6 string "acoustic-ish" sounding setup...(Islander...) 👊
Just a fun song. It acts to bring you down from the epic style. Walden ( first published in 1854 as Walden; or, Life in the Woods) is a book by American transcendentalist writer Henry David Thoreau. The text is a reflection upon the author's simple living in natural surroundings. The work is part personal declaration of independence, social experiment, and voyage of spiritual discovery.
Troy is always witty!! And Marco has his special way to play bass, but Jukka (now in NW) also is incredible. For this reason Tuomas chose him to COVER for Marco. (No-one can replace Marco). Therefore you truly should do the live rehersal of Jukka's previous band "Wintersun - Time". I have suggested it millions of times so PLEASE ruclips.net/video/4UMwLxFNKS0/видео.html
Every time I see this clip, I can't help thinking that, if Troy had a dream since the age of 9 to perform at Wembley Stadium, taking up the Uilleann pipes was a pretty unconventional way to go about it.
It’s actually not a double Nick Bass the bottom half his guitar. The top part is Bass. I’ve never seen one of those before. He is the first I’ve seen with one of those pretty wild.

@@MisterJ56 Though I'd just cause some consternation by finding the Welsh text. 🙂

Love Troy's intro....sets up such a magical experience. Great reaction!
“He plays everything” - next up is While Your Lips Are Still Red, where he plays guitar with an ebow 😁
This and Alpenglow never fail to lift the mood.

Great reaction as always Jeff, I love this song. BTW Troy is singing in Welsh in the intro, very cool!
I am going to play this at my funeral - going on my own Walden
Love Floor's body language as she sings " an early morning greenwood concerto."
An uplifting song for sure.

Have not seen the full concert before, It is fire! I love this. Thank you Jeff ! Greetings from nwAse Sweden
Marko is playing The Beast, a double neck Bass/Guitar.
This song makes me forget about the modern world for a moment. Nature and happiness is where it takes me mentally. Love that folky sound.
No flute Jeff, Low Whistle.

Just what I needed today: this song and your great reaction. A good warmup for my gig this evening. Woohoo.

Marko's doubleneck, nicknamed "The Beast" is made of a Warwick bass and a Framus guitar.

Troy does indeed play everything…. “except hockey”.
It’s a Warwick bass on top and a Framus guitar on the bottom. Framus is owned by Warwick
The pipes the flutes the electric guitar with an e-bow, the bazouki guitar, yup Troy can play a lot of instruments
👍🇫🇮🤘😎

Listen to Planet Rock's Floor and Troy's acoustic How's the Heart.
