After finally taking the time to look into this after a full 2 years of owning the 4K AppleTV, stuck in 4K SD through my Yamaha receiver, was thrilled to find your video! Only wish I found it 2 hours ago! Thank you thank you thank you
Been trying to get my PS5 to output HDR for 6 months. Tried everything and nothing worked. 30 seconds after watching this video and it's up and running. Fantastic video
OMG!!! Had the receiver for six months. Just got the lg 77” oled c9. THAT FIXED THE ISSUE!!!!! I was going nuts wondering why my apple 4K couldn’t set to Dolby Vision. Fixed it!!! Thank you so so so so so much!!!!
Just throwing my appreciation for this video. I just bought an Epson 3800 and everything was working but I made a setting in windows 10 and suddenly none of my hdmis worked whether it was PC or my shield. I found your video and switched my 4K mode on the Yamaha to ‘1’ and they all worked. Still showing 8 bit through shield but relieved it wasn’t work. Many kudos to you.
Wow, i just got a 3800 too, and playing around with Mode 1 and Mode 2 in the hdmi settings in my yamaha tsr700, now poof...can't get anymore output using my shield. Was about to pack up this yamaha and return it tomorrow. Will try this fix, hopefully it works
@@pinyot9621 one other thing I had to do is turn off monitor check in advanced settings of my Yamaha rxa2070. Not sure if yours has that but it worked for me. Good luck!!
@@ksandersbna thanks, unfortunately i have el cheapo TSR700 lol so there's no option for it. I did my test, and still failed. So I tried my regular HDMI cables and the sucker worked, so I don't know what happened to my 4k cable when i switched it to Mode 2, I don't know if it could have ruined it or what. But crazy part is that cable works with my FireTV Cube perfectly fine, but doesn't work with my shield even if I directly connected to it without my Yamaha in between.
By accident, just saw this and it has made a vast improvement to my picture quality. Thanks for making this instruction. I have a Yamaha rx v681 a new Vizio PX Quantum X tv. Can not thank you enough.
My man - you don’t know how much time I’ve spent trying to figure this out between my receiver, my Apple TV and my Sony television. This little fix finally solved my problem. It pains me think about the hours I put in fussing with cables, upgrading software, resetting etc. thank you so much!
Thank you!!! I've been looking at hdmi diagnostic menus on my tv, trying to figure out if there is a bug in the Nvidia shield.. Stumbled onto this video, worked like a charm!
God bless you man, I have spent many days trying all kind of things to make it work on my Yamaha (with the latest firmware) and an Apple TV 4K, but I could not enable HDR on Apple TV. So for several years I ignored the HDR feature. Recently I have spent a LOT of money on the best HDMI cables possible. No luck. I was sure my Yamaha had a problem. Today I found your video, and everything works now following your advise. Now I have HDR with 4.2.2 color. Still don't understand why I don't have 4.4.4, but anyway, it's better now. You saved me the cost of a new receiver.😃 I don't understand how come Yamaha which is a great company can do something like this, there is no information about this on their support page. Shame on them. O at least I didn't find it. I'm wondering where did you get this info from?
I read somewhere else this method of accessing the advanced menu only worked on ~2018 and newer units. This method worked today on my ~2014 RX-V677 with fw 1.98
Thank you so much for this; I´ve been wondering for over a week why my Aventage wasn´t passing an HDR signal to my PJ. I´m sharing this video to my HT FB group for anyone who runs into the same problem.
Brilliant, I’d been struggling to work out why my PS5 wouldn’t display HDR and 4K, it only let me have one or the other. This has sorted it. Thank you very much.
I just got my ps5 and got the same issue, plugged it directly to the LG OLED E6, hdr no problem, plug into the cox 5100 can’t support hdr, it doing an update at the moment, will check after. Thanks guys and rafcave !!

Mine was the opposite (for the Apple TV 4K anyway), as I couldn’t get HDR passing through the RXA2050: Mode 1 only passed through 4K SDR, but changing it to Mode 2, 4K HDR then passed through. Unfortunately, my AVR doesn’t pass through Dolby Vision & HDR10+, so I need to upgrade... 😞
Just saw this. I had a problem passing HDR from my Yamaha receiver to my Sony TV, I tried the settings in the Yamaha and didn't have any luck. I spoke to Apple, Yamaha and Sony and they couldn't help me. The only logical answer came from Apple, who said my Sony TV just supported HDR and the Apple TV 4K only supports HDR10 and therefore I couldn't even get HDR quality through the Apple TV 4K. If anyone has any advice to try and achieve some sort of HDR quality with the Apple 4K on a Sony HDR TV with a Yamaha receiver, please let me know. Can't believe just HDR became obsolete for Apple in a few years. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing this video I was also have the same problem. While watching The Empire Strikes back (The New 4K Version) in my Nvidia shield I also noticed it was darker running through my Yamaha receiver. So I did a test and ran it directly to my TV and noticed it was brighter and a better picture. So I did the change as shown in your Video and it did brighten it up just a little but not much. Do you recommend a factory reset on the receiver?
Unfortunately already set to Mode 1 but no Dolby Vision pass through. Tried different cables ports you name it. Direct to LG CX works but not thru Yamaha? Gotta keep troubleshooting...
Do you run your hdmi directly to tv and use arc connection or are all your hdmi inputs from your components run through the receiver first to get the best picture quality? Thanks
I was up v late last night running around trying all my cables. I really hope this works tonight after work 🙏🏻 I gave a different receiver so fingers crossed 😂 got less than 4 hours sleep trying to get it to work 😴
Thanks man... i had a similar issue on my Denon 4400h... I didn’t have HDMI set to advanced (it was set to standard)... it was causing issues with my Xbox One X going into HDR mode... wouldn’t play games in HDR10. I have the same projector as you.
so my receiver (Yamaha RX-V581) is working fine on my PS4pro/PS5 but its not giving me 4k resolution on my PC instead it shows 1080p as native. But when I connect the PC directly to my TV it works fine full 4k/60fps/HDR. Note that i am using the same cable when connecting to my PC both ways (through receiver and Directly to TV). Please help me out, I'll really appreciate it.
Interesting video, however my dilema is that I have a new Sony OLED TV, Yamaha RX-A3080 and 4K Apple TV. Tried both video modes and when I run Apple’s “Enable Dolby Vision” it fails 😩. Do not think is the cables since when I hooked it up directly to TV Dolby Vision is enable. Even change the receiver thinking it was defective but I still have the same issue 😩👈🏻
Appreciate the video! I was wondering if you could help. My Shield TV, Yamaha processor, and JVC E-Shift projector are not playing nice. After about 15 min of streaming any content on my Shield, my display goes blank and I have to go back and hit resume. After that I have no issues and I can play the content without issue. I'm pretty sure it's a resolution switching issue. It starts as 4K, then when it disconnects it momentarily displays 1080p, and then it displays 4K so I can resume whatever I'm watching. Any ideas would be helpful. Used to work perfectly for years. Thanks again.
can anyone help me. I have a yamaha v681 receiver connected to a ps5. there are 2 4k modes, 1 and 2. when using 4k mode 2 i can only get 4k 60 hz but no hdr. The receiver is also updated.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just bought used cx-a5100 and using it with Shield Pro 2019. Even though I enabled the Mode 1, the Shield gives me only 4k 24Hz with DV and HDR support. If I go up to 60Hz, no DV support. Would you have an idea where to dig? Thanks
