I just repaired two 600's. One just like yours and an 80's coppertop same problem. All you need is a 38mm/1 1/2'' rubber grommet and super glue. and you'll be back in the water, I'm a big fan of the Zebco 600's I have had a coppertop since I was a kid in the 80's, and I've had the 70's version like yours for 10 years. I have caught a lot of fish with them. I use 10 or 12lbs line on them, great for panfish, 2-3lbs catfish. after all these years replacing the rubber line stop is the only problem, I have had with them and it's a simple fix. I also added newer 202 and 404 handles to them, but the original handles work just fine.

@@scottgraham1153 I’ve had plenty of 33’s, 202’s, and bunches of random Zebcos but this is my first 600.. It seems to be a very “unused” reel.. little to no gear wear at all..
I find Zebcos just about every time I go out but I’m picky about the ones I get.. I like the “harder to find” reels..
I might give the rubber grommet fix a try.. I have a couple other reels that need some parts so I may make an order with Mats Reel Repair and see if he has a nice rotor for that reel.. I believe it deserves it considering its condition..

Hello Scott, my name is Harry and i live in Northern New Mexico. Just wondering if you have a youtube channel and if that is where I saw the fix for rubber line stop by substituting an O-ring as I mentioned in my comment?

I’ve got a copper colored 600 with the same issue. Here is what i bought to repair it. I just sanded off the flat bottom ring. Cheap fix and works great

Cool video. I have an Abu Garcia spincast reel without that rubber casting ring because I broke it when I knocked it off the table while cleaning it. So, I cut the rivets out and put it back together. It still casts perfectly fine, and I haven't seen any indication of line damage either. The button simply depresses about a 1/16" deeper, and it's actually a little more comfortable for casting.
During my youth, my entire family used spincast reels exclusively. I eventually became spinning and baitcasting purist/snob. This year, I came across the rods and reels my parents and grandparents used when I was younger, so I restored them to functionality. The Ted Williams combo that was my grandfather's pole is beautiful. It was the envy of all, and it cost a pretty penny back in the day.
I keep trying to force myself to use them, but my spinning/baitcasting snobbery persists. I recently purchased a couple of lefthanded spincast reels that I purchased for $5 apiece. They're both worth $40+ apiece. I use lefthanded baitcasting reels too because it feels more natural switching back and forth between them and my spinning rods.
I'll eventually use them all at some local stream simply to "reconnect" with all the great memories of family fishing trips.
    Happy fishing@

      @@artmias5538 Hey There🤠,
I wish I had all the reels I let go of simply because I didn’t know how to or felt like fixing them.. As we get older we start to appreciate the things we had that were more mentally valuable. The late 70s and early 80s brought on the era of “Throw away” products. The things like Johnson Centurys, Zebco 33s, and Abumatics, were keepers, we were just too young to realize it then..
I’ve had more than several versions of Sears Ted Williams rods and reels.. some better than others but my favorite so far is a Ted Williams 340 combo a good friend gave to me. Beautiful combo. The rod is a little over the top but the reel is great. (Built by Shakespeare)
I love using the old reels now and have tried my best to instill that in my sons. Showing them how gratifying it can be to restore something and then use it..
Feels good to save these old reels and take them fishing.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting, I very much appreciate it!! Get out there and “fling away”..
      Thanks again!!
      Willie

Hi Willie, I remember my dad using a dime or penny to take our reels apart. I forgot all about that. 😊
It's a shame about the black ring missing. You may get the part from someone to fix it or it might not cost a lot from Matt's. 🤞
    I hope not anyway.
Tell Chris, Steven, Evan, ? Hi and meow. Sorry, I can't remember your oldest son's name.
Take care and stay safe till next time.

Willie, I came back with a heating pad for my back and Miss Sophia and our little dog Jojo were dancing to your intro music! : ) We liked the video on the 140 but forgot to comment. Think I sent a text though. That Zebco 600 looks to be a nice reel and I'm sorry about the rotor problem. It seems I recall someone else on RUclips who had a dried/cracked rubber ring. He cut the rivets and scraped it off, then superglued an O-ring of the proper size/diameter and made it work! Something to maybe consider if you can't find the part you need and just want to try and get the reel working. I'm sorry that I don't remember the channel. (I thought it was Matthew on Outfishing13 but couldn't locate the video on his channel.) Anyway, enjoyed the episode and we are waiting for th video about the Sabra (Sabar, Subero,???,) oh Heck! Anyway, we will be watching. Take good care, Harry

Contact Matthew at OUTFISHING 13 about repairing the ZEBCO 600, He is a Zebco man. I believe a round rubber gasket can be glued to the surface of the spinner head and it will function. I believe he has a video on it. I have and use a Zebco 66 Scotty my father bought for me in 1960, I really enjoy it. Its so easy to fish with.

      @@billheller4364 🤠Howdy Bill!
Thanks for the info!! I’m definitely going to look into to fixing that reel.. it’s extremely clean and very “unused condition” other than the ring missing.. I have a camping trip coming up at the end of the month.. I’d like to take it but I’m looking forward to taking that Abumatic 140 and possibly having an “all Abumatic” weekend.. but we’ll see..
