Ok, so, basic run down on the Metro universe.
Basically, nuclear war happens in 2013. The Metro name comes from the survivors eeking out a living in the Moscow subway network as stations are converted into towns and cities. Some of these stations form power blocs so you have the Hansa occupying the ring stations as traders, the Red Line being controlled by communists (fighting Nazis) , the Nazis on another line (fighting the Reds) and Polis, the closest thing to a capital city, as the hub, richest settlement, and last place of learning and decent technology where living conditions aren't total shit.
Aside from bartering, the only currency is military grade ammo, bullets manufactured before the war that are of much higher quality than bullets made from scrap in the Metro. In-game, you can choose to shoot MGR because of the massive boost in damage it gives you, but you'd literally be shooting money. Likewise, most Metro gubs are handmade jury-rigged junk.
Those monsters? They're probably Nosalises, moles mutated by the radiation. That giant creature was indeed a mutant bear. And those are some of the tamer creatures created by the nuclear war, for the destruction was so complete that the afterlife itself was destroyed, and so the metro and Moscow are plagued by supernatural phenomena. For example, in the books, those who look at the Kremlin's Red Star feel an irresistible desire to approach it and are never seen again if not stopped.
If you're up for a creepy Half-Life esque FPS that shares inspiration with Stalker, Metro is one of the best there is. It does, however, have a throughly depressing atmosphere.
Those are definitely not Nosalises, maybe a rework of the lurker, but nosalises are much bigger than that. And don't have tails

If it's a Watcher, though, they made them much larger than I remember.

when I saw cold, snow and destroyed cars I got excited saying "Is it Metro?!" the the quote from Dostoievsky made me fucking scream "FUCKING METRO!!!"
You guys should look more into the books and games, an amazing franchise.
Whole Metro thing is based on the fact that the Moscow subway system was made in a way that it doubles as a huge-ass nuclear bunker.
Basically, Nuclear Winter hit, nobody can go out and there's even rumors of mutants and something even more eerie in the now unused tunnels. A giant wave of a sea of huge rats washing over you, biting away isn't even questioned.
The fact that the trailer shows them leaving the Metro and it not being winter anymore is a HUGE fucking deal. :D

Honestly my biggest fear is bears. Scary fuckers. They're in urban areas killin pets n shit. Fuck that! Not to mention one on one you're gonna get killed by even a small-medium sized bear. Thank god I don't live around them. I don't even consider it a phobia because my fear is completely rational.
