The beauty of the Artyom's Nightmare trailer is that is hides a good deal of symbolism behind it regarding his character.
Artyom's nightmare is not the terrors you see before you.
He doesn't fear the mutants nor the hostile humans of the post-apocalyptic wasteland.
    Nor does he fear death.
He fears not being able to save everyone, especially those he finds close to him. Each of those candles in that hallway, represent a life lost, a life that could have been saved.

    • @PPWRUP
      @PPWRUP 4 года назад +12

@@silva5623 it actually does make sense, though not in direct interpretation: "can't save everyone" correlates with Artyom's background. Not sure if it's covered in the original game, as it's been pretty long time since I played it, but in the book it's mentioned that he was one of the few survivors of his station. It was attacked by mutated rats and, while the help did arrive in the form of heavily armed stalker squad, this squad quickly started getting overrun, thus having no choice but to take whoever they could with them (including Artyom: his mother gave him to the squad leader) and evac, sealing the tunnel behind them and isolating the fallen station.

Just for context, the Commander didn't stole the baby, the mother was begging for him to save at least the baby since they needed to close the doors before the bombs drop, he ain't no Asshole it was his DUTY to close the doors and save as many as he can before the bombs drop and before the Metro is overcapacity since that's not the only entrance to the Metro anyway.

    • @Peckh
      @Peckh 4 года назад +78

The books also really expand on the mental issues the commanders where going through. Being ordered to close the door on people is not an easy thing to do but any sooner would of risked the entire station. It was a risk they really could not take. It was like 2 minutes or so they kept it open before being forced to close it. The commander from metro 2034 talked about how he could see children, mothers, people helping others and all that all being left behind and it was something that dug at him every single day after he closed the doors. Of course thats added with the fact that everyone in the station blames you for closing the doors

Glukhovski actually wrote 3 novels (Metro 2033, 2034 and 2035)
Metro 2033 was adapted into a game in 2010, next he wrote 2034 but it wasn't adapted into a game (because in this book Artyom wasn't even present), then he was working on story in Metro Last Light with the developer team from 4A Games which came out in 2013 and he had so many ideas about Last Light that he wrote another book (Metro 2035) just to put these ideas into this world, then Metro Exodus came out in 2019 (and Exodus was a continuation of 2035 novel)
So the timeline of Metro looks like this : Metro 2033 (novel and game) ---> Metro Last Light (game) ---> Metro 2034 (book) ---> Metro 2035 (book) ---> Metro Exodus (game)
Last Light's story happens before Metro 2034 novel story because there is one character who is stuck in some place in Last Light, but he escapes it and he tells how he escaped it in 2034 (I won't spoil it if you didn't play/read it)
Also Exodus isn't the direct continuation of 2035, because the only thing that links these 2 is that Artyom is finally out of Moscow, but he's with different people in both cases (although Anna is with him in both scenarios) and because of different reasons

The missles fell on high population areas and the citizens of Moscow retreated into the Metro to escape the blast and resulting fallout. That's the original trailer you watched, which might be why Mark put it first.
Oh yeah! And the commander didn't steal the baby. He was supposed to close the doors to save the people already in the Metro since the missles hit just seconds later. But instead, he took just a moment to save the life of a child who could still have a chance.

Please play these games, they are some of the best out there and don't get nearly enough attention. Just one advice if you decide to play, try non-lethal stealth, it's challenging, but I found it the most fun, and you can spare a lot of ammo with it. Also, the games have a karma system, if you kill a lot, and make certain choices it will affect the ending. If you end up liking it, you should also take a look at the Dishonored games, similarly story driven, first-person stealth games with story altering choices and really cool gameplay.

I hope he actually plays them because the metro series, when I played it for the first time, was one hella of a experience. It's difficult to remember certain things but a quarter through the first game you'll get into the flow. I just hope dee bee reads this and really considers playing the metro series, even if its long, I mean he played Breath of the wild and that game is super long if you try to do everything. Trust you'll fall in love with the Metro games.

I will say this Dee Bee it can get real intense. I played Metro Last Light years ago and let say this man. I was on the surface and I was trying to get to the end of the level but I had to fight a boss at the end. Basically I ran out of ammo on all my guns and all I had was a knife. It took me an hour to defeat the boss and finish the level. Those moments do happen man I think you’ll love these games. Oh and this series is based off a Russian book series. Big fan man keep it up.

The story of the series that sometime during 2013, WWIII starts with the nuclear strike upon Russia. In the game it depends on the storyline about where you are. The governments of the world are struggling to fight a war as most of the world is in ruin. The survivors of the initial blast take refuge in the old metro tunnels. The entire story is about a civilization trying to survive. It's unknown what happened to any government other than the Russian government which is trying to rebuild as fast as possible. It is likely that Russia was nuked by the US. Most survivor encampments that are known are in Russia, but there is one in Paris, one in Berlin, and an unknown English speaking settlement. The reason why the shelter left so any outside is because they don't want overpopulation and therefore could only take a certain amount of people, leaving the rest outside to die. Air is still breathable outside of zones hit by bombs. The known crippled/destroyed countries are most of northern Europe, the USA, Russia, and China.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, have a good day.

In the case of the Commander, he didn't steal the baby, the mother was trying to enter so he took the child because there would be enough space for only the child. He could've chosen to leave the child and mother outside and die to the bombs but instead took the baby instead of letting both die.
Also, I think you should play all the Metro games as they are the most atmospheric and terrifying games I've played in my life.
I' d suggest playing the Redux versions of 2033 and Last Light as they look better.
Anyway, keep up the awesome content!

The best part about these games is that they can be played fully without any form of HUD (Dunno about Exodus though). There are in game indicators to everything you'd need to worry about bar two exceptions. The only thing you can't see in game is how much reserve ammo/equipment you have. But, you can bring up the journal fully and it will flash a HUD to show you that.
You also don't get any on screen indicator of the few quick time events that appear. But you can somewhat tell when they happen cause of the subtle difference in how the cutscene presents itself. Two pointers for 2033 is the first gun you get, you have to hold the interact button instead of just pressing it. Another one is a ladder on the final mission also involves a quick time event. Those both stumped me for quite a while because the no-HUD didn't work well for those situations.
The payoff, however, is one of the most immersive and cool FPS experiences I've ever played. I hope you have a good time with them if you play them and whichever way you play them. c:

You miss to read, from: "Metro: Last Light - Enter the Metro - Live Action Short Film (Official U.S. Version)", the summary:
"The Moscow Metro. A monumental feat of Soviet engineering, with a dark secondary purpose - to serve as a refuge in the event of an atomic attack. As the Cold War thawed and the threat of nuclear annihilation seemed to fade, this purpose was forgotten -- except by a few, waiting for the signal, ready to open the vaults ... the last refuge for the remnants of mankind."

The games always had a very dual persona to them in terms of gameplay.
Action approach is more akin to us, the player.
Stealth approach is more akin to Artyom, who in the first book wasn't as brave or skilled enough to take on tribe of bandits on his own.

I absolutely loved the metro series. It is the first game i baught on steam with my own money. After playing the 2033 i dived into the novels and the world it created is stunning and horrific at the same time. I really recommend you to play it. You will love it too. It's definitely not an easy game, I won't spoil much for you, but for the context the world ended in a nuclear war and people of Moscow went into the metro tunnel. The outside world is now ruled by mutants and creatures of higher order. The game also plays with psychological horror elements. It also has karma accumulation mechanism. Exodus continue the story of the novels. Where novel ends exodus starts.

The story is amazing and the gameplay is so diverse that you can literally play the games completely differently to someone else. The Redux version of the game is the way to go for the first two games if you end up playing them.

(NO SPOILERS) They have an un-announced Karma system aside from when you do a good deed the screen gets brighter and you hear a droplet of water and when you do a bad deed and the screen gets Dark and (I think it's a) Violin play's.

They do briefly mention that your actions have consequences. Apart from that though its a real play and learn experience like a true video should be. I think I played through the original game like 10 times to figure everything out. That was the fun part.
Do have to say though watching someone play it blind and just making choices based purely off their own morals is the best experience rather then going for a good or bad run.
