Ego Backlash

Kenneth Price shares his experience surfing the waves of Ego Backlash; a phenomenon that every Course in Miracles Students will encounter along their Awakening Journey.
Definition of ego backlash; Ego backlash refers to a phenomenon often encountered during personal growth or spiritual development. It occurs when, after making progress or positive changes, we suddenly feel like we’re moving backward. This feeling arises from the primitive part of our psyche-the “inner troll” or “chimp”-which resists change and prefers safety over risk. However, recognizing ego backlash provides an opportunity to challenge these self-limiting beliefs and continue moving forward
The ego attacks you when you’re being most loving.
The ego shifts abruptly from suspiciousness to viciousness.
The ego uses the body to conspire against your mind.
When we first start the Course and read these passages, we haven’t really got a clue what they mean.
And then at some point, out of left field, once our mind is deeply committed to awakening from the dream and the peace of God, the ego goes ballistic.
It is then that we must turn toward our holy Guide and know that trust in Him IS being cultivated as we are going through this crisis in the mind.
We have made a deep decision to keep going. We have our our mind under His guidance (even when it doesn’t feel like it) and we cannot get it wrong.
The ego cannot stop you once your path is clearly sought. We keep riding the bronco, doing the true forgiveness work, working the workbook when we can, and know that this too shall pass.
