What do you think of the 1/3rd paper plane kit? Will you be getting one?? ;-)
Smells like April First
I already have a 1:1 one.
It’s been 5 years since I bought this. Still can’t finish the build. I hope to finally finish this year.
There is a rumour of another manufacturer releasing a 1/2 scale, later version with photo etch and paint masks and a full colour instruction booklet with historical reference photographs which will justify the higher price as no aftermarket upgrades will be necessary. No kit is perfect. Apparently, the fold lines are of an early version and will need correcting to be accurate for the late version but should be an easy fix. There is some flash to remove and as always, several mold release pin marks to fill. I plan on getting two kits. One displayed landed with one side unfolded to show the internal detail and the second posed in flight. Very informative/enjoyable build, Alex.
A 1/2 scale kit would be welcome, though I'd be put off by mandatory use of photo- etch. Also I believe although an early version and this design has been superceded, it is still in use today, often as a users first paper plane before more complex and harder to fly aircraft
I agree with not caring for the, 'all in one', kits most of the time. in this case it is a single 1/2 scale P.E., STAPLE, that saves me scouring the internet for or scratch building with the concern of not get the proportions right.@@MannsModelMoments
@@MannsModelMomentsThis has to be a April's Fool vlog if I actually find out it's a real kit then I will have to get a couple of them
I have made this kit many times. Previously marketed under the brand name Mead.
I always struggle with getting crisp masking lines and need to go back and touch them up. I enjoyed your understated weathering. Nice touch.
It’s great to finally have this plane available from a major kit manufacturer. I remember having to scratch-build one when I was 12. I had to repurpose an old geography quiz for parts. I do remember it being an earlier civilian version of the plane with squared-off wings and not this much better-performing delta variant the military used.
Last year I put a photoalbum on Scalemates of my scratchbuilt version of Wonder Woman's invisible jet. At the end of the day I revealed it was an April Fool. It was actually a cloaked Romulan Warbird!
An aftermarket firecracker would really take me back to my youth!
I find myself quite disappointed that Airfix left out the rivets so prominent on the prototype , now I have nothing to count to gauge the kits accuracy . 😊😊
It's having the time to do it justice that I have trouble with.
Can't wait for all the aftermarket kits to pop up and make this beauty really detailed! Would love to see better surface texture if anything…
I think a skilled modeller would have no difficulty in adding subtle creasing detail and additions such as graffiti or scribbles without having to go to the aftermarket...
LOL, i saw the post by Airfix, but i didnt realize they actually released 3d files for it! Awesome video!
Going to use lined paper with margin for my build. For that authentic '70s school yard look 😊.
I was planning to scratch build one, but will probably get the kit now it's been released.
Well done, Alex. You really made me laugh, and some of the comments are hilarious! Didn't expect you to be such a funny guy (and witty too)🙂
lol that was fun. I might have to do my paper plane in a different scheme
Be careful not to try the common American "Yellow Pad" version, as this is a slightly shorter aircraft...
😂Well done 👏 . There will be a problem, however... MOS will complain about the lack of a pilot.
Quality build Alex. Pride of place in the window of the shop I reckon.
😂😂😂 Brilliant, best seen for a long time. Great sense of humour...
Must be the best model Airfix released so far.
Great one , but should have made it 1/4 ....(First of the fourth ) Lol
Another great April Fools joke. Funny!
Oh,was it April Fool's? 🤔🤣
Even though it's a starter kit, it gives great scratch building opportunities like posable flaps.
I think posable flaps would be a challenge to recreate effectively - even an experienced modeller might struggle with the tear texture - best to wait for the Eduard set I think....
Very nice indeed 👌 amazing build, the detail is remarkable. A what if scheme would be a great subject too. I have pre orded mine already. 😅 😂 😮
If I have one criticism it's that no decals were included for the most common "lined paper" version...
Cor, I'm getting two. One to keep and one to build. Think I'll do mine in blue though 😂
😂
Really well done Alex 👍
Brilliant now for the Sunderland 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not a bad build... but I think I might wait for something similar in a larger scale from Tamiya or Meng perhaps?
What an excellent April fool 😂. I never watch anything on April 1st because of things like this...but this must be held at the same level as the spaghetti trees.
Apparently Duxford are restoring an original.
I'm shot on money now, so I will try to do a paper model option...
Surely There will be a masking set, photo etch , 3D printed cockpit and masks ?
LOL, April's fools!
Do you think they will bring a us navy version?
The US version is a slightly shorter, squatter aircraft due to the American "letter" size, so unfortunately this would require a completely different tool. You should be fine with any European scheme though!
lol good one hope there’s a camo version to in the not to distant future
Ah absolutely fantastic. I hear that this is only the beginning, there will also be the 1:1 version of the same plane and there are rumours of the paper hat and papet boat also coming out this year. Looking forward to getting all these models and of seeing your relevant videos. Kind regards. Professor Ken.
The paper hat and boat are much more complex models, I'm not sure Airfix can compete with the Japanese here with their long history of the complex paper subjects...
@@MannsModelMoments Yep, sadly that is true, the Japanese were masters of origami long, long before Airfix ever came into existence. Happy modelling my friend. Professor Ken.
I think that they should give the Airfix logos as decals.
And they should also include another options. I'd gladly enjoy recreating the failed math test camouflage scheme.
Also they should add option for folded wings to display the plane as transported inside the carrier.
Speaking of which, I hope that the 1/3 scale carrier, preferably USS Notebook, will follow.
It's a bit big for me. I prefer 1/48...
Wow, inspired release Airfix, I never saw that one coming. Alex, you really did this one justice, I was surprised that ICM didn't visualise this one first though. That shadow stand sets it off a treat, looks almost Star Destroyer like - beautiful, cannot wait for the cockpit upgrades... 😀
Nice one Alex, you went all out on this one. I,m surprised you didn’t complain about the lack of fold lines! I hope they do a 1/1 version soon. 😀👍
The fold lines are present, and very subtly done - I didn't highlight them since this is a starter, but maybe a future in-depth build is called for?
Needs more rivets and the panel lines are too deep🤣 I wondered who would be first to review this?
Naturally i assume you pre ordered 100s of kits ready for the mad rush to get them. 😂
Good one Alex😂
HaHa but the box should be used to produce 2 paper/card air craft. Once made a paper plan from a A1 sheet and it flew a mile.
Very nice 😂
One of the best April fools i've seen this year.
😁
Mine lost all structural integrity when I put the wet Crappo-graf decals on it.
If this where real I would legitimately buy one!
... but will it fly ?? 😂😂
Where can I order this magnificent kit?
Great 😂
Happy April fools day. 😂😂
Who else wants airfix to release this?
Well they kinda have with the STL. Let me know if you think I should sell printed versions!!
@@MannsModelMoments you definitely should sell printed versions
😂😂😂
HAHAHA!!
My Airfix classic kit is made from papyrus
It’s a great April Fool’s joke but really, I would buy one if Airfix produced it. It is the most-built “model aircraft” in the world, is instantly recognisable and looks good out of the box. 🤣
You can download the STL and get it printed...
@@MannsModelMoments sadly I dont have a 3-D printer or a desktop PC. But I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks Alex.
Geez can they spare the size?
😂😂😂😂😂😂
😹👍
Clearly Airfix have gotten it all wrong… between the scale length issue and the fact that a simple study of references and original photos show that this type of paper plane never had those style creases in 2024! And those out of scale fold lines too! When will they get it right?!?!? 😉😂
Way to go all out as others have said, and thanks for an April Fools laugh
Hardly a tamiya, though i can atleast respect the effort excerted in capturing those fine details, many a scratchbuild of this beauty has been spoiled by indefined proportions and deviation from the protype to a comical degree, i note the lack of photoetch a disgrace in todays day and age in both the starter and advanced versions of the kit, of coarse a true modeller will have little difficulty in fabricating the all importent rear ailerons often field applied in Operation to atain mission spacific results and squadron insignia a plethera of wich are available on the aftermarket
Ha Ha. What was the date?
Won't buy as no rivets.........
😅😅😅😅
Foolish to be watching this in April
This kit is way beyond my capabilities, so I'm afraid I'll have to give it a miss.
Typical Airfix, as there's no pilot included.
😂
I can't figure out if you thought this was a joke, or just treated as a joke. Your attention to detail when painting and masking to me shows you think it's a joke. The lines are way off and, honestly, you did not take this seriously at all. Why bother doing it if you won't go all in. I can understand if you think thinks its below your level. If it is, say so, but still go all in. You did not sir.
As I only received the review sample the same day, I was under time pressure to release and so only did a basic build - plus it's only a starter kit so didn't want to put off any new modellers who might think it's beyond them....always a difficult line to tread...
I built one and the fit was terrible. Also, it came on a single sprue, had no rivet or panel lines. Terrible kit, avoid!
Oh dear, must have been one of the "bad batch" lol
Is this a joke?
You seriously need to ask?
What a waste of effort
I think you missed the point (and date)
You never mentioned QC, short shots, is it better or worse than Airfix's usual offerings?
MOS will think Airfix have played another blinder in the marketing dept.
Can't wait to see what they offer us for next April 1st, excellent clear and informative review Alex.
