- A video of my recently aquired Electone Organ - (Essentially working after years spent in a damp garage).
A look inside at the circuitry, in particular the IG02601 VCA and IG02611 VCF chips in this unit (also used on the Yamaha CS01 Analogue Synth). Also, some sounds of the organ at the end.
Yamaha Electone A-55N - Disassembly, repair, Synth Synthesizer Chip Salvage - IG02601 VCA, IG02611 VCF
I have been working on a similar C55E from 1978 that's been in the family since new and always stored in dry living areas. It still looks new and yes, I'm impressed with the ease of access to the main areas. My experience restoring it is that at minimum every single switch (except the AC power) will need to be removed and the contacts cleaned. Unfortunately the switch manufacturer seems to have used a grease on the electrical contacts that deteriorates into a poorly-conducting film. If that wasn't annoying enough, all pushbutton-type switches have a tiny red bumper inside that can break loose and become entangled in the mechanism, preventing the switch from latching down into the 'on' position. On the C55 there are 58 such switches in total which took me about 25 hours to process.
Without doing that up front there would be no way to know if everything else is working. Thankfully all the rare and specialised semiconductors were fine. Only one logic transistor in the Special Presets had drifted slightly in spec, causing that function to be permanently muted. An easy fix but hard to locate. One other weird minor failure was that one fuse for one amplifier power supply rail failed (it seems due to vibration only) but there was no symptom apparent. In retrospect all it did was limit the maximum volume achievable due to only the other rail being present. Probably the most amazing thing is that the original rubber belt on the rotating speaker baffle is still working. Thanks for your video ... that allowed me to verify certain sounds are working.
Have you found suitable spots on the circuitboard for extra sliders
/pots?
First thing I'd do for this would be adding custom pots for resonance
and cutoff. And possibly envelope parameters for filters as well... AutoWah would get even more spicey with them.
Another one would be outputs for everything possible. Possibility to connect those to dedicated mixer is tempting, separate volume sliders for all the separate drum sounds for example.. then some effect boxes to FX send/return loop! It would add vast amount of new performing possibilities.
Hello, Im from Cuernavaca, Morelos; Mexico. I have an Yamaha Electone M-200 Organ, some functions are off. Definitily I appreciate this video, I apologize cause of my gramar, the point is thanks to you. I really liked this video about information, perhaps whit a cleaning inside could be work again. Greetings.
Just bought something similar. I think it has few buttons more and atm I have no idea what exact model it is. By what i found, its closest to A-55-N. Dunno was 40eur to much for it, but its damn fun to play with, also seems to be in good condition, both inside and out. These things have really nice retro sound.
THANK YOU!!!
This looks identical to the model my grandfather had -- I believe it's in my parents shed at the moment. Some of the buttons/switches are not functioning but I imagine some deoxit might resolve them.

I have the A55 without the N, that stands for New, the difference is that mine doesn't have Auto arpeggio, rhythm variations, and the "disco" rhythm pattern, which was very sought after in 1980-1982. But mine had the Tremolo/Chorus effect and had an extra guitar preset. I wouldn't have changed it for this model. Tremolo and Chorus was probably the best feature of this model. I wonder if they just hid it in the panel but it was still in the circuit board.
really enjoyed this video,i have found yamaha b-605 its partly working, i noticed its similar to this,a few sections don't work,it seems to be the chorus that does not do anything but also some kind special preset section with harpsichord does nothing also,it was dusty as hell and abandoned,i wiped the dust off and it really sounds great,i might get inside after looking at this to see if i can see any degraded ribbon cables etc.i know little about electronics tho, apart from to test voltages with a volt meter.Btw. on the 605 you can layer multiple rhythms at same time:)
I was just lucky enough to be gifted this instrument. She's beautiful. My friend has had her for years sitting in his garage but I now have it in my room and have no idea what I'm doing. I've experience with keyboards but nothing like this. Everything seems to be working except when I hit a key, no sound comes from it. Is there a special trick I'm missing or do you know what I might need to look at to get the piano and those functions working? Thank you for your video. I figured you seem like a good person to ask since you seem to know your way around better
how about the sound quality?
Ahoy good sir. Wandering if there are any modding guides around for modding these ? I have just acquired a mint condition D-65.
Great videos. 👍
Estaba usándolo cuando de repente ya no funcionó. Que pudo haber pasado. Revisé fusibles y están bien
The oldest yamaha electone are fully transistors , there is no IC , so amazing for me
Tengo un teclado similar y no suena el teclado superior, agradeceré explicar la reparación en español.
I purchased mine already in 1980.
Hello. Thanks for the video
I got one like this recently but the upper keyboard sometimes sounds and sometime doesn’t. Do you think is going to be easy to repaired?
Also, where I can find some kind of course or book or music sheet to start to learn to play this fantastic instrument? I know music (as I use to play sax) and I would like to start to play this Electone
Thanks at all
I recently aquire the 205D it won't power on i hear a click but the power light does not work was working prior to moving to garage a couple of weeks ago can you please give me a reference start to looking for problem
Thanks a lot!
HEy Berno! what happens if you invert the rectangular cables (the whites). I invert two in a gem organ ( data input and led input) and still powering but does not initiates. Just get red leds and no sound. May i burned it by invert flexors?
Hi! I have the Organ Yamaha A55N and the upper keyword does not emit any sound -it seems that it does not receive electricity-. We opened the organ as per your video (great!) but regrettably, we cannot find the source of this issue. The lower keyboard and the pedals work perfectly. Any suggestions or ideas will be deeply appreciated! Thank you!
Hi friend, check the manual balance button😉
How hard would it be to take the drum synth out of the Electone B-5CR & make it it's own module...?
Or how about doing some internal modding without removing it from the enclosure? DIY separate output for each drum sound?
@@S4V0LAEN3N that would be cool also BUT it's more of a room thing 😅
Tengo un órgano similar y el teclado superior perdió el volumen, algún consejo pero en español. Gracias desde Arica - Chile.
Que tal. Me surgio el mismo problema. Pudiste encontrar la solucion ? Grcias x compartirla 😄😃
How did you open it dear? Thanks
I have the c35 but not exactly how every part works yet
My dream: made a stand alone programmable drum machine using that card.
Good video. i have one of those yamaha.
Do you know how can i repair the balance sound between up and down keyboard?
Thank you very much for this video and for reading this message.
Saludos desde Argentina.
Thank you for your comment.
The manual and schematic for this organ can be downloaded from this link:

Perhaps you could work it out from there - Best wishes to you
thank you very much!
Your reply was very useful.

Pudieron repararlo?
How worth is this ymaha organ? Im seeing a cheap one theyare selling in my town
Finono...on ebay they are priced from $150 to $3000. It depends on condition and how bad you want one.
@@muranilife thx for the feed , i appreciate
Those amplifier / power supply electrolytic caps look tired.
Can This organ do distortion
Do these have a jack output?
Yes, mono/headphone.
@@alextirrellRI so in order to have stereo, one should record with mics?
That's a A-55NF maybe for the time its not visible, but i have one what i purchased yesterday and its in great estethic condition but not work :/ i will make a restore xd
Tengo un Yamaha A55F que necesito reparar pero en Guatemala. Alguien conoce un lugar confiable

Treamitir en español
i have a c55 sat here, anyone want it? Sussex
Há entendi tudo pelo menos em espanhol
gaahrage
El teclado inferior no emite tonos musicales
Que tal pudist solucionarlo ?
Very poor demo. Only showing ONE specific of the many settings, buttons, switches, levers, rhythms, etc. that's working and not testing the rest to show which ones are not functioning and how to fit it/them.
Bad title.
